How can this happen, we leave in 6 days and my youngest is sick. Sore throat, cough, grr what else could go wrong?

Aww so sorry! I really hope he feels better!! Rest, rest, rest...drink lots of liquids and eat some good chicken noodle soup!!!

Eeek! That is my worst nightmare!!! :guilty: I hope it doesn't get any worse and everyone else stays well!

Awww... don't worry! That bug is going around. I had it and it only lasted 3 days. He'll be over it well before you go... Lots of water, rest, and nutritious food! :thumbsup2

Poor little sprite!

I feel so bad for you and your little one. Lots of rest and everyone will be right as rain.

Oh my gosh I know how you feel. We were set to go to disney in January (surprise trip) & the day before we leave, my ds has 104 fever!!!! I flipped out. Brought him to the doctor & took doctor aside & said, "help- what do i do, we're going to disney tomorrow & he doesnt even know". She checked him out & strep was negative, but she wrote me a prescription 'just in case' the 24 hour strep came back positive. She told me, it looks like a virus- go on your trip- and even if he is sick a couple of days, better to be sick in disney than here!!! So... the next day we leave to disney via the auto train (it was only on the train that the kids figured out what was going on). And my ds says, "NOW I know why you were freaking out about my being sick." That night he had 103.8 on the train (but he was so happy...) we brought tylenol & ibuprofen with us to get him through the night.
The next day, when we arrived his fever was down at 102.
And the following day, our first day in the parks- he was at good ol' 98.6.
Take your child to the doctor, so if it's something that needs meds- you can get it now... just for some peace of mind. But you do have 6 days, most things run its course by then.
G'luck and have fun!!!!
BTW.... try to keep your kids SEPARATED!!!! I had my sick ds, wearing a painters mask when they were in smaller confines like the car. Thankfully younger ds stayed healthy!

Sure hope your little one gets better, and FAST!!! That is my worst fear when we plan a trip, that someone is going to be sick. It used to be that most people only got sick in the winter, but no longer!! My DS9 was sick last week(week before school started). We think it was tonsilitis. He was miserable!! There was another time we went to Disney on a January trip and my husband and I spent most of the time in the hotel with a stomach bug!!! I felt so bad for my DS who was 4 at the time, but we got through it! I would say go and have fun! Better to be sick at Disney than at home, right????

Six days is much better than a day or two before! In six days your little one will be A-OK! Just make sure your other kids don't catch it.

Good luck! It's my nightmare, too. :(

My son was sick before our last trip, and we were flying. I was stressed. He had a cough and runny nose.

I found a product at CVS that worked pretty well. They are lollipops called Rhino pops, I think. They have cough medicine in them, but taste like regular lollipops. The kids didn't cough on the plane at all.

GIve them a try. I hope everyone feels better soon and you have a good trip.

I found a great little home remedy... when my kids get sick I give them ground ginger (just the tip of a teaspoon) mixed with either their cough syrup or to prevent a cold I mix it with corn syrup... it works wonders... they are fine within days and my daughter is usually sick for at least 6 to 8 days, but with this, only 2 to 3 days... give it as often as you would the cough syrup. the ginger is a natural immune booster, that's what my naturalist consultant told me ha! ha! it's worth a try... I know that when I go in Jan... a week maybe even 2 weeks before we leave, the kids will get a boost of ginger everyday. ha! hope this helps.

Feel your pain. DS had an earache just days before we were leaving. I told a pediatrician we needed a quick fix. She gave him a set of shots on antibiotics and then said to return the day before the flight to check him again. He's ears were clearing, but how stressful. Of course you don't want your child to go sick, but its WDW for goodness sake!
Luckily for us our pediatrician is also DVC member, she had great empathy for our situation. :cool1:

Aww, I hope your little one gets better fast! I get so stressed out when my kids are sick! 6 days is a good chunk of time for them to get better.

Thanks guys.. he has a fever of 102.4 so off to the doctor in the morning :guilty:

Poor baby! But you still have time to get him healthy for the trip. We leave tomorrow and on wednesday (2 days ago) I went to the dr. due to headaches, sore throuat and ear pain. One and a half days of antibiotics and I am MUCH better! Kids seem to snap out of things quickly too.

For a while there it seemed that every trip we went on someone in our family got sick! We have been to Celebration hospital (dd was 15 months old with a double ear infection) and the walk in clinic (dd had an engorged tic her head she brought from home) and we have been to the first aid stations at almost all the parks and both water parks. One trip my dh was so sick they had to get a dr. from off-site to come to our room! We are hoping now we are in a better cycle of health - and the kids are old enough now to tell us how they are feeling.

Good luck to you!!!

Jill

Good idea to take him in to see what the problem is. 6 days is enough for most antibiotics to make them feel good as new. Lots of hand washing, no sharing of cups and stuff to spare the rest of the family just before your wonderful trip.

I wouldn't be that concerned about the sick one; he's likely to be better in 6 days. It's the very real chance everyone else in the family will get sick now.

When you have a large family like mine, there's always someone sick on a trip to WDW. Only once (and that was our trip in Dec 2005 when only 1/2 the family went) were we all healthy at WDW.

One trip, in Jan 2005, we were ALL sick at one time or another on the trip. In fact, we drove to WDW that trip and had to stay an extra night in Tennessee because one of the kids woke up in the middle of the night puking and with a fever.

I carry all the OTC meds with me on a WDW trip because it's always something...I think we're just jinxed!!! lol.

I hope your son is better before your trip, and no one else in the house catches it! :) :)

Mary

I'm so sorry to hear your little one is sick :guilty: Sending lots of PD him to get well soon :wizard:

If it makes you feel any better, a couple of years ago, my 13 month old woke up the night prior to us leaving with 103 fever. I had to race her to the doctor 4 hours before we were catching our plane. The doctor gave me some antibiotics and said, have a good time. We took the trip really slow, and everything worked out okay.

The good news to you is that 6 days is actually a nice amount of time for your child to get better. Please keep us updated on how everything goes and have fun on your trip!!!! :cool1:
