We have adrs at mama melrose but need another table service at MGM. Have done Hollywood n Vine and Brown Derby doesnt have anything appealing to DS - 16 on the menu. The 50s prime time seems to have something for all of us but I am concerned re server 'antics'. Dont think DH could cope with someone trying to spoon feed him his dinner! :lmao:

I visited 50's prime time only once, it was back in the last 1970's: it reminded me of home and the nonsense I went through nearly everyday.
I have not gone back and never will.

(interestingly enought I do enjoy the Whispering Canyon though)
:sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

My DD and I are both shy and we enjoy 50's a great deal. We have found the servers figure out who is shy and do not push us at all.

We have been there at least 10 times and have never been made to sing, clean our plate, any of those things you hear about. Once I was asked to get my elbows off the table, but that's about it. There is a little joking around, but it is not a big deal.

Now us at Whispering Canyon?? no way! :rotfl: We call it "Whoopin' Hollerin' Canyon"!

It really depends on the server as well. I've gone three times, twice with a group and twice alone.

Two of the times it was a male server (who is incredibly funny) and he was a blast. However, I do think they notice who is into it and who isn't. He found the green beans I had hid under my chicken, got us for elbows on the table and "tattling" on others.

Then I went back alone and got a female server who barely interacted with her tables. (I was very disappointed). Went back once again and got the first male server and interestingly he remembered me. Had a great time!

I\'m a rather reserved, shy person. I didn\'t have much trouble. The waitress came up behind me, sort of sang/hummed a little tune, and placed a little mermaid bib on me. My gf found it funny and well...I didn\'t care since I was on vacation and having fun. I think we got \"clean your plates\" and \"eat your veggies\" a couple times. There really wasn\'t much in the way of embarassment..save the little mermaid bib.

Years ago we went there for dinner, in fact we were the last group let in. It was LATE and MOM was just wonderful.!

However my then 8 year old nephew had a long hot day he was hungry & just wanted to eat & go to sleep.
Mom kept badgering him about something........everytime she walk away he started griping about that she is sooooooooooo annoying. We kept telling him to just enjoy & its all a act...etc.

Anyhow...she came back to the table and wouldn't give him his ice cream until he finished something on his plate (I tried warning her with my eyes...however she didnt get it). HE BLEW UP, and yelled at her real loud....."HEY LADY YOU ARE REALLY ANNOYING ME, GET AWAY"!

He was this little tiny red headed angelic looking kid who had just reached the end of his rope! Everyone was a bit embarresed, including MOM! I thought it was funny! But she was annoying, he was right! Anyhow I left a bigger tip then normal...and NEVER went back!

So to answer your question...Yes if you think you might get miffed...Stay away!

Hubby and I were just there a month ago, and the antics really aren't that bad. They were mostly between the servers.

DH and I were there this last Nov and went completely prepared to deal with "Mom" or "Cousin" or whoever. Our server wasn't into it at all and we had to settle for "Mom" at another large table giving them grief. I saw very little of what we had heard before going there. Also, the food wasn't great, just okay as far as we were concerned. It's pretty heavy home style cooking and whatever you don't eat gets tossed cause it's kind of hard to take it with you. We'll pass next time. MGM just doesn't have the best restaurants.

I think as long as your DH eats all his vegetables, nobody's going to spoon-feed him :)

Remember that it's Disney and you're supposed to have fun. They are attempting to recreate home life in the 50's and 60's and what meal time was like if you had brothers and sisters and an extended family. Basically you're part of the attraction instead of standing in line for a half hour to see something. Go along with it and you'll have fun. I'm taking my 50 something sister there this year and am hoping to get a lively server. I've had both and if you get a dud, work the rest of the room. If your child is cranky and tired, speak up. We did last year with my daughter and the meal was enjoyable for everyone. Instead of her being the target of fun, I was which made the meal easy for everyone. I saw a boy at the next table who didn't eat his beans get a large plate of them with whipped cream and chocolate sauce for dessert. (then the real dessert was brought out) Just relax, have a drink, and go with the flow. You'll have an enjoyable time.

Our server (or cousin as they say) was quite funny. I can't say as I recall her name but she was a hoot. She was not loud...nor embarrassing at all. We really had a great time there and our lunch was quite good...especially dessert! My hubby and I shared a great serving of cobbler with icecream on it....makes my mouth melt to think about it.

I really don't understand all the posts on here about PTC and WCC being loud and/or embarrassing. We have never experienced any of this on any trips to WDW. You are on vacation....you need to let your hair down...laugh a little....enjoy yourself....laughter is actually a VERY healthy thing! I just get stunned when I read some of these posts on here. As a single parent years ago, I ate at these same places with two small children (one whom is way more to the quiet side) and we always had tons of fun. Maybe we are just folks who enjoy life everyday and laugh a lot...I'm not sure. Everyday, I see patients in the ER where I work that have such positive attitudes and know how important is it to laugh everyday...(some are survivors of horrible disease/accidents mind you). I have met some amazing folks. As I said, laughter is very good for your health.

I say go and enjoy and decide for yourself. :goodvibes

here's hoping everyone can find some reason to smile and laugh today.... :yay:

many blessings...
Esmerelda
