Hi,
The Space Shuttle launch has now been moved to February 26, 2011. This is the day that we arrive in Florida. We will most likely be flying in to the Sanford airport. I think that we will arrive early enough (11:30am) to get to an area to "view" the launch (4:04pm).

I won't buy tickets to view it because they are non-refundable, and shuttle launches are postponed all of the time, not to mention that we're flying out of Ohio in Feb... anything can happen in Feb in Ohio!!:scared1:. I'm wondering if anyone here can offer any advice as to how possible it is to see anything from surrounding areas?

I was at a launch 15-20 years ago, and we had some type of VIP passes (from my brother-in-law's job). I know that you can't really get close to it, even with passes, but I would love for my 6 year old to see something. He is crazy about space, and this may be the last shuttle launch in a very long time (maybe ever!).

Suggestions or ideas?

Thank you!

You'll be able to see the launch from anywhere in the Orlando area...including Sanford. It just depends on how much detail you want to see. Obviously you won't be able to see as well from Sanford as you can from the coast but it's a rare treat so enjoy it how ever you can. And I imagine the launch date could be changed a dozen times between now and next year so you are wise not buying any non-refundable tickets.

I watched the Atlantis launch in May from Titusville. I heard there was a park there that is a popular spot to watch from. As I drove in to town there were people everywhere and cars parked all over the place. I just parked a few blocks away and walked towards the water and had a great view. If you have the chance go. Just plan on being in traffic for a LONG time. But it will be worth it.

Question we are going to Kennedy in early January...would we be able to see the shuttle on the launchpad or moving towards it?!?

Thanks to everyone who has responded!:thumbsup2

I am so hoping that the date will hold, but I think the chance of that is probably about a million to one!

If it does, though, we will just plan to head toward the area and maybe incorporate a view of the ocean into our view of the shuttle.

What a way to commemorate my husband's 50th birthday if it does happen on that date!!:yay::woohoo:
