Shula's Steakhouse?

For those of you who have dined at Charley's Steakhouse, can we expect Shula's to be comparable? We went to Charley's (the original on Orange Blossom) for the first time a couple of years ago and absolutely loved everything about it! The atmosphere, the food, the knowledgeable wait staff, the Grand Marnier Chocolate Cake (OMG - to die for!) . . .. From what I've read so far, Shula's sounds like it would be similar. DH had mentioned maybe going to Charley's one night during our November trip, but if Shula's is just as good, it would certainly be easier than traveling off property. Can anyone compare the two for me? Or just give me your thoughts on Shula's period?

I was pleasantly surprised by my meal at Charley's but I think Shula's is a nicer dining experience. The food is outstanding, the service was a little better, etc.

1) I agree.
2) Shula's is one of the better steak eateries in Orlando.
3) Well ahead of Charlie's (and, we get free food at Charlie's).

My DH had gone to Charley's for years on his trips to WDW, but i had never been. I wanted to dine on property for our whole stay, so we decided on Shula's.
We are pretty picky, and we LOVED Shula's. The staff is attentive, the food is awesome, and it is just a great atmosphere. This past week, I had a great filet, he had a great ribeye, and I had some DELICOUS blueberry martinis!!
I cant say how it compares to Charley's, but I know that my DH doesnt even ask to dine off site there on our trips now!!

I guess I'll be the voice if dissent here (I usually am on Shula's threads). My family has only tried Shula's once, and hopefully it was just an off night. We've been to Charley's a bunch of times and really like it. We're New Yawkas, and we take steak very seriously. Shula's was, in a word, disappointing. The prices were sky-high, the service was eh (although the waiters made a show of how many of them would be waiting on us and how attentive they would be, when push came to shove there was no one there to refill drinks), and we all felt the quality of our steaks was fine, but nothing special, certainly nothing worth the prices we paid. Our side dishes were salty and buttery and didn't amount to much aside from that. As I said, it was probably an off night, but we have no interest in ever trying again. For a dinner that expensive, you expect an absolute hit every time, and at this point that dinner has become the punchline of a joke to us.

Shula's has now become one of our favorite restaurants at WDW. Will be going back again in less than a month!! The quality of steak exceeds anything available anywhere else at WDW.

I'd have to agree about quality. The filet at Shula's was better than the filet at Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Thanks for the input everyone (yes, you too, Meteora!). I may make a reservation for our Epcot day. We may leave the park early to mid-afternoon, return to resort to freshen up, have dinner, and then return to Epcot to finish out the evening.

Any particular suggestions for things to avoid, things not to be missed, etc.? DH and I often share at restaurants - is this permitted at Shula's?

Oh, two more questions:

1) I am going to get a $25 certificate from restaurants.com. It says "one per table." I'm assuming that if there are 2 couples, paying on separate checks, that both couples cannot use one? Thats what it sounds like . . .

2) Is there even any need for me to ask who was the best Surf n'Turf - Shula's or Narcoossee's?

I know that the Disney-owned restaurants don't charge for sharing at a la carte restaurants. Since Shula's isn't operated by Disney, maybe someone who has shared entrees would chime in here. I'd ask the servers if there's a charge for sharing.

I think you answered Question 1 already. Haven't done surf and turf at Narcossee's, but I don't think the "surf" part is all that exciting at places that offer it. I don't think they use Maine lobster tails for that part of the "surf".

We've been fortunate enough to dine is some of the finest steakhouses in the country, and Shula's is definitely in the top ten.

It's not quite 5 star, but it's much better than Charley's (which isn't too bad to begin with...) and it will be a memorable meal.

Service is usually very good, but there is the occasional slip up, which shouldn't happen at that price point.
