Which shows have pyrotechnics and/or loud bangs? My brother had several ear issues growing up and now fireworks and loud bangs hurt his ears (so he will need ear plugs). We plan on seeing:

Fantasmic!
River of Light
Illuminations
Happily Ever After

All of those except RoL. Plus the castle stage show & projection show, as well as Star Wars fireworks. Disney reallllly likes their pyro.

All except Rivers of Light. Becasue of the proximity to the animals at AK there are no loud noises or fireworks as part of that show. The others all do. Fantasmic! doesn't have as many as it's not a straight fireworks show. Illuminations is quite loud because of the proximity to the launch area and how low to the water the fireworks are. In MK, the fireworks are a little more distant so its not quite as bad. Hope that helps.

Fantasmic has a few pyrotechnics, but nothing that seems to be loud except for the very end if I remember correctly.
Rivers of Light has NO pyrotechnics. This show can't have pyrotechnics since there can't be fireworks inside Animal Kingdom.
Illuminations would be the loudest show interns of pyrotechnics
Happily Ever After is the typical Disney firework show with a few louder bangs than other fireworks due to distance.

It's a good thing that you plan on getting him ear plugs.

Enjoy your trip! :)

If you are walking by center stage while they are doing Star Wars a Galaxy Far Far Away show they have 2 big booms that go off, this is the SW show performed a couple of times a day.

Thanks everyone! I've thought about getting him some nice acoustic filter earplugs so that it would reduce the decibels but he can still hear the music - I assume there's music? Has anyone used these type of earplugs before?

my daughter used these types during Halloween Horror Nights at Universal and they helped a lot, they reduced the decibels but she could still hear us

Don't forget.

Fantasmic! (during the Pocahontas section) has one of THE loudest single explosive sounds heard at WDW.
And, it happens as a complete surprise (no warning) to the audience.

Then, followed in that section by more explosions... not QUITE as loud.
But, with super-bright pyro.

Plus, much-much brighter (but quieter) pyro from the Evil Queen's cauldron,
the fire-breath of the dragon,
and "lake of frames," from which the heat can be felt
through the entire amphitheater.

I would post this question at the Disability part of this board also the MK fireworks are shot off from behind the MK so you may not want to be back there when they are going off ( the nighttime show)

First aid has the phone earplugs that you can use in case you need some more, but you can by your own.

Watch out for Once Upon a Time. It plays close to HEA.

There's also a daytime show at the Castle that shoots off some FW.

They are similar IMO. HEA is bigger, longer and has many more fireworks tho.

Do they do them on separate days or same days one after the other? I'm looking at the day we will be there in November and only see times for Happily Ever After. We booked the dessert party so I'm wondering if I need to show up early to see both shows.

What's the difference between Happily Ever After and Once Upon a Time?
HEA is the fireworks show there is a lot of fireworks that go off from the castle and behind the MK. OUAT is more of a castle show with the fireworks going off every now and then ( much less then HEA and I think all from the castle )

Happily Ever After is a firework/projection show. Once upon a time is a projection show.

Once upon a time is done either 30 min before or 45 min after HEA. Their done on the same night

I don't think the second to last PP above is correct. OUAT has not been running twice a night. It has generally been running 45 minutes after the HEA start time, but it is sometimes 30 minutes before.

Looking at this week as an example per the times guide....

Sunday/Tuesday/Friday - MNSSHP (so no HEA or OUAT)
Monday/Wednesday/Thursday - 8PM HEA / 8:45 PM OUAT
Saturday - 9PM HEA / 9:45 OUAT

they both have fireworks and for the OP brother needs to know so he can be prepared for it
