I found great airfare, too.
DH said we could go if I could get a deal on the room, but it's still full price.
I called to see if there was a pin, but I was told no. They were more than glad to book me at full price. Yeah.. no thanks.
By the time a discount comes out, the airfare discount will be gone.
That's okay. I'm a little disappointed (okay, really disappointed), but we're planning something really nice for 2012. It would have been great to go this year though.
OK...... first thanks to Ollyg for trying HARD to get me a deal.........
but alas.......... we are traveling in December. They DID add the $80 rates for KC, but the sale only goes through mid-November.
WAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Still waiting for a break somewhere along the line here!
Congrats to those of you who got your deals today!
I don't know why on earth I thought you were going in October
I hopebrings you an early Christmas present from Southwest and the

Well Disney Reservation Computers were down a couple hours tonight, let's hope it was due to inputting Fall discounts!!![]()
I am in the same boat. I just found great airfare, $64 each way(airport 1hr from home) or $80 each way(airport 15 minutes from home and $230 airline credit). But we really can't make the trip, even with the great airfare, without a great discount on WDW, like FD, especially since we're spending a boatload (pun intended) on next year's DCL trip.
Come on rumors!![]()
Hey there - For those like this poster who can only go with a 'great' deal - have you ever considered offsite?
Honestly with the changes to the Free Dining (needing to stay at a Mod for Basic dining, tips not included, etc) - I don't think it's the be all-end-all deal that it used to be when you could get it at a Value. We stayed offsite for a quick trip in Dec to see the xmas decorations. I got a great deal on car rental for $110 total - spent about $25 in gas and even with that, I'm guessing we saved about $500 over staying onsite (even with free dining). We got a great deal at Staybridge Suites LBV and it includes a HUGE hot breakfast (so some of our dining was 'free') - we ate lunch either in-room or brought to the parks with us most of our days and then we really only paid for one meal per day 'out' (and 2 - 3 of these times we got either CS or just got takeout on our way back to the hotel).
Plus if you get your tickets from undercovertourist or other, you can usually save $10 - $20 per ticket right there - adding to your savings over paying rack rate plus full price for tickets with free dining.
If it was great deal or no WDW - I'd look for a great offsite deal. It can definitely save money.
Don't get me wrong - I love staying onsite too, with a great discount, but I would stay offsite in a heartbeat if it meant I wasn't going to be able to go at all.
Packing lunches and getting take-out isn't vacation to me.
It really depends on your family and travel priorities.
We've never found staying offsite to save enough to be worthwhile, but with 5 or 6 of us (depending on the trip), plus luggage for a week, a toddler carseat and a stroller, we can't get those ultra-cheap rentals. We need a much more expensive minivan or SUV, which also means more gas money. Add in the hundred bucks or so for parking for a week at the parks and all of the savings of cheaper offsite accommodations are offset by transportation expenses. The only place we could really save by staying offsite is on food, and that's one area where I don't want to skimp. I can pack lunches and eat counter service/take out at home; on vacation a variety of nice restaurants are part of the whole relaxation package.
If the deals and the budget don't work out for doing Disney the way we like, I'd rather go somewhere that doesn't involve $1200+ in airfare and about the same in park tickets and enjoy that destination fully. Packing lunches and getting take-out isn't vacation to me.
Amen sister!
Everyone keeps telling me free dining isn't what it used to be. I KNOW that. But I'm gettting the dining plan regardless of what we do. So free dining at a value (even with the upgrade cost) is still the cheapest route available.
We love the character meals. I'd have to save a lot more than is possible to pay for the cost of all those meals.
The ONE thing Disney did to hook me into staying onsite is to price those meals at such a high point that I pretty much have to have the dining plan.
So in a nutshell, come on FD in November!![]()
