My wife and I are thinking of buying into the DVC. The price we were quoted was for 300 points for $29,700. Is this good? What are the pros and cons of buying DVC property? We travel to Hawaii once a year. Would I be better off going with a Marriot or someone else? We also love Disney cruise they said if would be about 650 points for the cruise we are going on for this December. Is it worth it?I know you guys are the best for Disney stuff.

Should we buy Yes or No???

I may not be the best person to answer this being that I am in the process of buying and have not yet bought. But the $29,700 for 300 points is equivalant to $99 a point and that is not a great deal!!!
As it is it sounds like you don't travel to Disney for the majority of your vacations DVC may not be a good idea for you. The points are more valuable if used at a DVC resort and it can become very costly (in points) to use them elsewhere. You might want to try renting some points for your next vaca to WDW and see if it fits your lifestyle.You do have the right idea by asking questions on the DVC boards, these people are really helpful, and willingly share info, so you can make an informed decision.

That's $99 per point, which is $1 per point above Disney's highest list price! Sounds like an eBay price to me...

What resort are you talking about? Are there a TON of banked points that you can use? Give us more specifics and we can give you a better idea, but my first impression is HIGH.

Well, you could buy 300 points at SSR directly thru Disney for $27,000 ($90 per point) or at any of the other DVC resorts for $27,600 ($92 per point). There will be no closing costs or other expenses except the annual maintenance fees with the direct purchase.

You can also find even better prices thru resale, although there may be some closing costs involved (plus the annual fees). You can check out The Timeshare Store for more information about purchasing resale.

Be sure to do your homework regarding DVC by asking questions here on the DVC Board.

I just bought SSR for $90pp after the $8.00 credit. Got all of my 2005 pts and will get 2006 pts in Feb. No closing costs. You may also want to consider buying 2 smaller contracts. As for Hawaii, you can certainlly travel there with DVC as long as you are flex. with your dates. Good luck!!!!

The real value of DVC is staying at the DVC resorts. How often do you take trips to WDW?

A week at VWL in a studio between December 24-31 is 181 points (and 462 for a two-bedroom vacation home). Compare that to the 650 points you would need for your cruise in December.

If you primarily want to use the DVC points for Hawaii and/or cruises, then I'm sorry but NO, it is not a good choice for you to purchase DVC.

Aside from that, the price you've quoted is too high. Visit TUG (see my sig) to learn more about timeshare for vacationing in Hawaii before you buy anything. You'll save $$$ in five figures!

Where were you quoted this price and at which resort? This would be high even for a direct sale, and is way too high for a resale. Others have pointed out the going rate direct from Disney, and buying resale should be significantly less than buying from the developer.

DVC works best if you go to WDW at least every other year and like to stay in the deluxe resorts. If you are planning on using it mostly for Hawaii or cruising, don't buy. If Hawaii is where you want to vacation most, then a Hawaii timeshare is what you want to buy. DVC has fairly high maintenance fees to always use for trades.
