Should we bother with Preschool?

I have said this on other threads and I will say it again here because it is important to hear. I have taught Kinder for 11 years, in the last 5 years, Kinder has become what 1st grade used to be. Preschool is the new Kinder.

Knowing this, Preschool was a definate YES, for our family. I couldnt be happier w/ the preschool, teachers, art, music, performances, field trips, socializtion, independence and FUN that both of my children had.

As a Kinder teacher, you can definately tell quite quickly, which children have attended preschool and which have not.

My suggestion for you is to look into a new preschool, maybe a co-op.

You are right. That is another bonus to pre-school. It is still easy and relaxed. In my DD's school (afternoons) being a bit late isn't an issue at all. Home work is an occasional fun family project. absences for vacations and just wanted to take the day off, no biggy. No true in K and the rest of school.

preschool really is about fun and can start of the idea of going to school on the right foot.

I'm sorry I didn't read through all of these but I did want to say I had the same dilemma with DS. He's 3, he'll be 4 in May. Until this past Sept he was home with me all week, then I would work the weekends and he was home with DH. I was going to wait until he was 4 to start him and literally decided at the last minute to check out his school after I went to school myself one night and spoke to one of my friends that had just started her son in pre-school. Well as soon as we walked in the place he was ready to start! I was so worried since he had been with me basically FT since birth. On the day we went just to check it out, he actually cried because he didn't want to leave! He ended up getting sick and started a few weeks after the school opened for the year but he LOVES it and is doing so well! He has learned so much in the short amount of time he has been there. Plus I now get to work more during the week so I'm not working every weekend anymore! I'm so glad we did this now and didn't wait, it is so worth it!!! Good Luck!
