I went to the Dr's today about my sore shoulder I have had for over a month. They did a bunch of xrays and the bones look normal.

He made me do all these movement thingys....and they gave me a physical therapy kit w/exercises to do, celebrex, a script for darvacet and a cortisone shot in the shoulder.

I was fine a couple hours after the shot.....but now, it is just throbbing terrible pain from the shoulder down to my elbow. Is this normal?? I have never gotten cortisone shot before...it is actually painful to be typing right now.

I go back in 3 weeks..and if it hasn't gotten better then we will do a MRI....he believes it is in the rotator thing.....a sprained or tore tendon??

So, I guess, if it is "sprained" it should get better....and then if it is "torn"......I don't know:confused:

Plus....anybody take celebrex?? I really hate to take any medicine for anything......taking new things just scares me. I put the script in for the darvacet this pm but didn't even pick it up...don't think I would take that either....I know...I am weird...

Anyway....cortisone shot people.....is it "normal" to be this sore??

I've only had a cortisone shot once, in my foot, and it didn't hurt too much at first because part of the medication they give is a local anesthetic. After that wore off it was pretty sore for a while so I think your reaction is fairly normal.

Hope this helps a bit.

I've also been really sore after cortizone shots, and so has my mom. I think this is pretty normal.

If you're not feeling better by tomorrow, though (even if it's just a little better), call your DR and ask.

My dad has to have cortisone shots in his knee from time to time. He says the pain from the shot is almost as bad as the pain in his knee.

I've had them 3 times. I have to be pretty bad to want one. They always keep me up all night when I have one. The good news is that they do work. Hope you are better tomorrow.

I have had two in my knee in the past several months for arthritis. I had only relief, no problem from it. I was on Celebrex and he switched me to Bextra.

My best for relief, Lisa.

Thanks everyone...I just took a celebrex and am going to head off to bed and "try" to sleep......it won't be easy, when I normally sleep on my right side!!

See ya tomorrow!!!

Lisa

Lisa I'm on the same boat as you are , I had an MRI done to my shoulder not too long ago because a calcification was detected on the x-ray and the doctor did not know if there was a tear. He said if there was a tear I was looking at having surgery , if not I would have to try PT for a while and get cortisone shots. I'm doing the PT myself and I'm getting no cortisone shots, the pain is controlled by vioxx that I take already for my osteoarthritis , I have heard they are painful and I'm not as bad as to needing the shots right now, I will put them off as long as I can.
Celebrex and Vioxx are basically the same thing, I hope you feel better soon.

Yes, I had pain for about 23-36 hours after Cort. shots too. They do help though. I had one bad experience where the doctor didn't put the shot in the right spot! If you pain continues, be sure to go back to the Dr.

Good luck with the Celebrex. It made me really LOOPY!!! I took it for 5 days and couldn't drive or even function! Turned out I was sensetive to it ( I have an aspirin allergy).

All I remember is that when my doctor gave me a cortisone shot, his nurse told me that my shoulder would feel worse before it felt better, so the pain you're feeling doesn't come as a surprise to me. Hope you feel better soon!

Hope you had a good night. I think you'll be feeling better soon, if you aren't already. I'm thinking of you!

How are you doing this morning Lisa?

Hope your doing well. I had a cortisone shot in my right wrist a few years back. Unfortunately, the doctor hit my medial nerve and I couldn't use my hand for 3 weeks!!! The pain was unbearable and I had to take Tylenol with Codeine!

In the long run, it did work!!!

Oh Lisa I hope your feeling better today. I've had cortizone shots in the side of my heel (3x) for planter fascitis. It hurts like @$#@#$. I almost kicked the dr when he was givin me the shot. And yes it did hurt for awhile......BUT....it does get better. He had me on the celebrex too. It seemed to help with the aching feeling if I recall correctly. ((hugs)) to you and hope your feeling like yourself soon!!
