Should I rely on DME and Disney transportation?

OK, I admit my husband and I are total Type A personalities... I have tried to use DME once before and have them booked again for the end of the month. First trip chickened out and rented a car. Flash back...just rented a car for our 4-27 to 5-1 trip. We are OK using Disney transportation during out trip but like to control our airport departure/arrival:)

Here's the purpose of upcoming trip, hubby is taking just me (no kids) and we are staying at BWV. We will definitely walk to EPCOT/MGM (or if we are lazy take the boat). It's my B-day and we are golfing on most day (I do realize we will be provided free taxi transportation to and from the courses) and will need to pay taxi tips. We are doing DDP and eating mostly at EPCOT (walking) so really not worried about transportation during the trip.

Soooooooo, my biggest worry is getting back to the airport. We like to get there early and upgrade to business class on AirTran for a nominal fee for the 3 hour flight from Orlando to Minneapolis. I have several choices. What would you recommend and what is your experience using DME on return? I have heard a few (not many) reports of getting to the airport an hour or so before departure. We normally arrive 2.5 - 3 hours prior.

Just rely on ourselves? $105 rental for entire trip airport to airport? $50 rental from Dolphin to airport one day rental? Or schedule an earlier departure from BWV to airport using DME???

Do you get the whole Type A, analyze everything WAY too much yet? Any advice or suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!

TIA!!!
Amy

P.S. I think I really need this vacation:goodvibes

If the time that you are booked to get to the airport is not early enough for you , call DME ( I do not have the number with me ) and ask to be on a earlier bus. AS long as you do this stuff a couple of days before you are scheduled to leave it should not be a problem.

I would stick with DME and enjoy your trip .

I would stick with DME when you check-in at MCO for the down trip request then for what time you would like to be picked up and they will get you as close to it as possible with no problem. Check when it arrives on your door an call if needed to readjust if needed.

I used DME in March with Air Tran. I arrived at MCO about 1 1/2 hours prior to my flight and was able to upgrade to business class with no problem.

You guys ROCK!!!! Thank you!

We have always been told by the folks at bell services that the tip is included with the taxi service to and from the golf courses.

We used the DME service the last trip to Disney and it was great! Just schedule the bus out of WDW that gets you to MCO when you want. I don't recall if AirTran is one of those airlines that allow check in at the resort, but is so nice to not have to lug bags around and check in at the airport.

In the past, we have always rented a car and for the most part it sat in one of the parking lots or took us to or from the golf courses. In December we did DME and the taxis to the golf course. One night we took a cab from SSR to Boardwalk to have dinner at the Flying Fish, but that cab ride was much less than a week of car rental.

Hope this helps

Jim
