Should I push back a week?

Currently our WDW vacation starts on the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend. Should we push our trip back a week to start the following Sunday? We will have 6-7 dasy in the parks and 7 days on the Wonder.

Since it is in October, it won't be that busy for the entire week. The weekends are generally busier since many locals come to the parks. Food and Wine is also going on so that will increase crowds in general for October and November. I would just keep the same dates and have fun.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I am a teacher and our school doesn't even get Columbus Day off. Arrive to the parks early and you should be fine.

Ditto the above, my dh has worked for lots of different companies and rarely does he get Columbus Day off. We have done a quicky October trip to WDW once, the weather was great! Enjoy

We were there during Columbus Day last year. That week will be busier because some school districts in the south have fall break that week. It was more crowded at that time than when we went in April, but I don't know if pushing it forward or back will make that much of a difference. However, we are pushing ours back to Halloween this year. Since you are arriving on Sunday for a 7 day stay, you should be fine after Monday. Hope this helps.

So some schools don't get it off some get one day and some get the week?

We also were there over Columbus Day Weekend, it also coincided with a Jewish Holiday, so our school district has 3 or 4 days off during that week!! For me I was expecting crowd levels at a 3 or 4 - not as crowded as July - - but my expectations were so WRONG - - if I had been anticipating crowd levels at a 6 or 7 (my interpretations, not officially with www.touringplans.com btw!!) then I would have expected the wall to wall people everywhere!! Soarin had just opened I believe, Crush was closed... it just seemed like mobs of people - FP for Soarin had run out by noon, Test track FP at 10 am had return times at 6 or 7 pm...


For me that was crowded!!

MK was also wall to wall people for me - my mom got knocked in the shins by strollers changing their minds and turning around... it was crazy!! The only way to go was FP and early early entry... imho!! When I got 'stressed" mom did time rides (for instance Big Thunder Mt, I couldnt believe the FP line was so long upstairs, it wrapped all the way around inside!! Mom timed it, it took us 20 minutes to get on a train... then the train broke down... but hey, Ithought it looked like more of a 30 - 40 min FP line, and it wasnt!!

AK - wow, same as above... just lots of people everywhere!! We waited 30 min for our ADR at LeCellier... just crazy!!!

Pros- Cheaper
- Maybe not as crowded
- Later in Hurricane season
- maybe cooler
Cons- 7 days off from school for my ds9 rather then 6

Well, the Jewish holiday won't coincide with Columbus Day this year (Rosh Hashanah starts Oct. 2, Columbus Day is Oct. 9), but I would say, if you are concerned, push it back. If your son is already out for 6 days, will one extra day matter that much??

Now I'm concerned! We are supposed to go 9/26 - 10/5. I was expecting heat, but not crowds. Now I'm not so sure!

We've noticed a surge in the crowds on the Columbus Day weekend and Columbus Day. I plan to avoid the parks over the weekend. The only reason we've stuck with that time of year for our alternating years is because my 2 dd's have birthdays (one before CD and one after). With the F&W Festival starting earlier for the past couple years, the Epcot crowds have also been pretty heavy compared to what we were first used to in late Sept. and early Oct. I think I was just spoiled.

I think I would lean toward going a different week if you can.

The Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were extremely busy. The whole week prior to that was light. By Tuesday it was light again.

Some schools get only a week for fall break. Some get a couple days. Some get two weeks. They all seemed to have that weekend as a target weekend.

With more and more schools going on the modified schedule where you go in in August and get a week or two in October and a week or two in spring, the crowds are getting bigger.

Sorry but you are incorrect, Rosh Hashanah is in September (23rd) this year and Yom Kippur is October 2.
