Should I purchase tickets for a 2020 trip now?

I’m sorry if this is discussed somewhere else; direct me there if so.
My family is planning a trip in spring 2020. With the AP ticket increase, I’m concerned about regular ticket prices seeing a similar increase. However, since Disney has moved to a date based system, is there any reason to go ahead and buy tickets now? Will it help avoid the inevitable ticket increase? If I purchase now, my tickets expire in December. I know I can still upgrade, but what would the benefit be in purchasing now?
Thanks!

Well you have to select the specific date if you can buy them for the date your there then get them.

I'm confused. You say yourself that the tickets would expire in December. Why would you buy tickets that you know will expire before your trip?

On another thread someone mentioned they would go ahead and purchase their tickets for next year before the price increase. I wasn’t sure why someone would do that since the tickets expire. That is why I asked. Just trying to get advice. It seemed like it wouldn’t matter, but then again I’m new to this. Since another poster had mentioned it, I figured I would ask and see if this was a strategy to save money.

The way it should work from how I understand it is you will pay the difference between the ticket you purchased and the new date range price when updating the ticket. You don't just get to use the old pricing otherwise everyone would buy Low season tickets for High season usage.

Correct

Yeah, I have my tickets for 2020 with the start date corresponding with my arrival date.

I wouldn't buy them until you have firm dates. That's when price changes may happen?

If I purchase now, my tickets expire in December.

The only tickets purchased now that will expire this coming December would be 2019 tickets. Tickets purchased now for 2020 will be date-based for the dates you select in 2020; they will not expire sooner. APs purchased now can be held and activated in 2020 (or later). If your dates are firm, I'd buy now; as you've already considered, it might avoid an increase.

Enjoy your vacation!

ok great! I didn’t realize 2020 tickets were out. Thanks everyone.
