should I plan for a discount or not?

DH and I are going to be in florida visiting family the second week of february, and we're driving to the world for a day on Friday Feb, 13th. Since it is right before V-day, I suggested to DH that we stay overnight at one of the resorts so we can have v-day dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse, 'our' disney restaurant. We figured we could fly out of MCO late that evening, but there aren't any flights late enough for us without having an overnight layover. Great, so I figured we could stay 2 nights and fly out sunday AM. The problem with that is the cheapest hotel at Disney I can find is $120 AAA rate for all-stars/pop, and we can't do that. I'm still determined to make this work, but we need to book flights for our trip. We're flying in to tampa, and would fly out of there unless we do a mini disney trip at the end. I don't know whether to risk not getting a cheaper rate and book our flight out of MCO, or just assume there won't be cheaper rates later and book out of TPA. Can someone who travels around this time (V-day/ Pres. Day weekend) let me know if there are usually last minute deals, or not.
TIA!

They usually don't offer discounts around a holiday (i.e. President's Day and Valentine's Day). If you will have your car, what about staying offsite. There are alot of nice resorts that are ALOT less expensive than a Disney hotel (and I WOULD NOT choose Pop either) offsite. Check out the downtown Disney hotels. We've stayed at Royal Plaza and it was actually really nice.

Also, on a side note - the dining lines are open for bookings up to Feb. 22nd. So if you are planning on eating at a certain place on or around V -day, I'd call and get a reservation now.

Hope that helps a little.

I understand your situation. We are traveling out in January, and went ahead and purchased our airfare, although "discount" rates have yet to be released during our window. We are now "locked" in with our dates, so if a good discount came up, we would be unable to switch. According to Mousesavers, discounts for Jan- March came out last year at the end of October. I think these discounts included ticket upgrades and a 15% savings on the room, certaintly not free dinning like other times of the year, so we are not expecting much of a discount to become available. Have you checked out the Swan or Dolphin, they offer discounts to teachers and military? I'd also look off-site at one of the Downtown Disney hotels and you could still enjoy the Yachtsman! Good luck

Unfortunately you should never plan for a discount. If you don't get one, what would you do? If you drive, ok, but with airfare, it's not an option.

Plan for RACK. If something comes out then good for you.

My .02...
