Should I have adult child get their own MDE account?

Or would it be better if he just logs onto mine from his phone? Just wondering if there's one way that's better than the other, or if it matters at all. My oldest daughter has her own account, and has her husband and child on that. I didn't know if too many accounts tied together makes things confusing or not. Thank you!

I would strongly recommend that everyone who is old enough have their own account, linked to everyone else via Friends & Family. Not just your son but your son-in-law as well.

If you only visited Disney with the exact same group of people and did every single meal and ride together, it wouldn't really matter. But if 2 of you want to ride a ride while 4 of you make a dining reservation, or some subset of you takes a trip without the others for spring break in two years, everything is much much cleaner when everyone has their own account.

Thank you! I'll have him get his own account then, and will tell my daughter to have her husband get an account too. I so appreciate this group!

Okay, I'm running into an issue. I'm trying to make a new account for my husband, but since he was managed by me on previous trips, it now shows that he has duplicate accounts. I tried merging, but ugh, this seems like a mess. I'm thinking I need to have them do it tomorrow morning when we check in to the Boardwalk, but I really want to get to the park early! Any ideas that are simple?

Call Disney. We had the same issue with my mom, she had duplicate accounts. About 15 minutes on the phone, and it was all fixed. I think this is the number... 407-939-5277. We needed her email address, he street address, and sister's email and street address (sis was "managing" mom's account).

Much better to have all 18+ folks get their My Disney Experience accounts set up. It will definitely be much easier to make Lightning Lane and, if required, Virtual Queue reservations as they wish. I already have mine set up from last year.

Thank you! We called & she was so helpful.

The only issue you’re going to run into, or at least we did, is that the adult that manages the kids accounts will be the only one linked to them. My husband got an account for the first time last trip so we could make conflicting reservations at Space 220 but then he couldn’t make any plans for the two kids managed by me. Unfortunately we didn’t discover it until we split up and he was trying to make a LL for the 3 of them.
Perhaps there’s a workaround to this but we did not find it.

Our experience during a prior Disney trip was that everyone staying in the same room could be on one MDE account. We traveled with 2 other families (total of 3 rooms). We all setup everyone as 'family/friends' or whatever Disney calls it so that one person could schedule the ADR's for everyone.

If someone isn't good with computers or phone apps, you have to be VERY careful you don't delete things in error. Many of the screens aren't very user friendly and we noticed that some things are far easier to mess up then you might expect. Having every person on their own MDE account just creates more chances for things to go wrong.

If you have issues with setting up your MDE, call Disney is a good suggestion. Something on one of our accounts didn't work right even though everyone had setup things the same. The Disney phone person was able to quickly resolve the issue. Don't waste your time trying to figure out something that isn't right, just give Disney a call.

He needs to link to the kids through you. Have him open his MDE F&F list and tap Add a Guest, then Find Through My Connected Guests. If you run into problems, call Disney IT!

Not for you since I think you're figuring it out, but for anyone who is reading this in the future...

THIS is why you want every adult to have their own account in the first place.

My DH had his own account managed by me for a long time and one of our last trips he ended up asking something at the blue tent and they changed it so that he manages his own now and I absolutely hate it. He never logs in, doesn't know the password, doesn't make the plans or buy his own annual pass or even know when it expires. Whenever I have to do that or change anything now I have to go to his account and sign in. It's a pain and actually makes MORE work for me. Just my two cents...I know the OP has already done it but in case anyone else reading is thinking about it, I don't recommend unless the adult in question is going to actually do some of the planning.

I thought if you had people set to "Friends & Family" (and they were set to allow others to change plans) that you could edit their plans.

I know with ADR's one person can definitely add/remove/edit plans for their 'friends & family'. That is what we did a few years when we traveled with 2 other families. Made setting up ADR's MUCH easier. Believe that FastPass also worked that way but clearly no longer available.

I can't speak to the other newer functions regarding adds/removes. Assuming they work the same, there would be no reason for everyone in the same room to each have their own MDE account and just makes things more complicated.

If you have various old/multiple accounts from prior visits is a different issue. For that situation I would call Disney and have the phone person combine/cancel/remove the duplicate older ones.

Do you have your own MDE account? If not, why not make one, link to DH’s MDE in F&F, then do all the planning just like you used to do? If y’all are linked via F&F with permission to plan for each other and see plans you share, anything you do like buying APs, bookings, etc. will automatically show up in his account and will function just like when you planned via his account (and for him to see if he ever wants to).

My DH has had his own MDE account ever since Disney started them, but I do 99.9% of the planning, and we don’t have any problems at all.

As long as people want to do the same thing at the same time, always, and have only one person plan it, sure, share the account.

Mom's MDE account was "managed" by DSis. All well and good until the TA booked memory maker under Mom's account. We couldn't give Mom permission to view our photos (required to share the Memory Maker). It wasn't an option. Got Mom her own account, associated it to the F&F/Reservation, and hey, all was good!

We are connected through MDE then and now. I can make dining, resort, and LL reservations for him but if he has a ticket I need to reassign I have to go into his to do it. Or when I want to check and see when his AP expires, etc...

Yes I have my own DME as I do all of the planning. He wouldn't even know where to begin. I can make dining, resort, and LL reservations for him but as I said above, if he has a ticket I need to reassign or I need to check his AP, etc, I have to sign into his. But that's the thing...he doesn't even know how to sign in since I do everything anyway. That's my whole point. It was just easier when I managed all the plans on mine.

Well darn, they must have changed things up again. I was able to see the expiration date for DH's AP in my MDE app, but we haven't had one for over a year now. I know I could see everything about our family's tickets in January, despite DD having her own MDE account and managing DSiL and DGD, and I think I could have reassigned DH's ticket, at least via the MDE website, but maybe that was because we bought it through my MDE account. I'm sorry they've made things more difficult for you.
