Should I get a Disney Visa Card?

I am wondering if it is a good value to get the Disney Visa Card. Visa is currently offering a $40 credit for first purchase with the Disney card. I saw this when I looked into buying park tickets on line.

I wonder how much credit they give you for purchases? Does anyone have any experience with the card?

I love having it- you get 1 point (worth $1) for every $100 spent. We live in Florida and go up about 1 time a month and can normally have a nice table service every other visit with our Disney Visa points. You can use it on most everything but we normally use it for meals. I don't carry a balance but I charge evrything (gas, groceries, ect) and then pay off my bill every month so it costs me nothing and I get a meal every other month- it is good to me.

How do you redeem points? Do they send you credit vouchers (like my Macy's card)? Or can a Disney cashier extract the information from the card?

You call the credit card up when you have at least $20 to redeem and they send you a Disney Gift Card (it takes about 2 weeks). Then you can call at anytime and load that card with the $ you have accumulated. The card they send does have an expiration date so don't reload it if you can't use it by the exp. date.

I just started using mine for all day to day purchases as well as any bills that take visa and pay off every month. I'm looking forward to having some extra loot for our Nov. trip.

Depending on how you use credit cards it may be something you like. The interest rate isn't that low, so carrying over balances could cost you.

Check out the Chase website and look for rewards cards. Then you can review all the benefits and restrictions.

FYI - you can use your reward dollars toward your DVC dues. Mine paid 1/2 my dues last year.

I just loaded mine onto a the gift card for our trip next week.
$550.00!!!!!!!! Use it towards food so I feel like I am getting free dining like the rest of the masses at the parks!!!!

I use mine for almost everything, and then let Visa/Chase pay for most of my meals at WDW! :thumbsup2

We love our Disney Visa...we have over $300 and counting for our next trip...I love the post saying it's there "free" dining card!!! I never feel bad buying goodies for my boys because its Mickey Money!!!!

It is my understanding that all rewards cards expire on 12/31 of whatever year they are issued. So....if you get a rewards card on 3/1, you have 9 months to use it, but if you get your card on 12/1, it will expire at the end of the month. Be careful when you request your reward points because you certainly don't want them to expire before you have a chance to use them!

I agree with everyone else on here. The Disney Visa card is great if you pay it off completely every month. If you carry a balance, it is a horrible choice based on its APR.

We use our credit for MNSSHP tickets and MVMCP tickets, and a bit of Disney Shopping during the semi-Annual sales.

Who has their card personalized for Day 1 members or DVC owners.

Actually if you order the card in December it is good until December of the next year. I usually get my new card in December to pay my dues in January.

and there have been many reports of chase increasing interest rates dramatically not based upon individual's credit score:confused3, moreso "market conditions":rolleyes1

DH & I both had our own account for years-single digit interest rates, mine slightly lower than his ha. I would carry a small balance now & again for a few months, rarely would DH.

i cancelled both pronto after reading change in interest rate on insert that came with statement. I did call and spoke to a supervisor, who apologized profusely and reiterated that it had nothing to do with usage, debt on other cards, credit score etc. merely, that they are instituted broad changes across the board. cynic in me would think the new CC laws next year just may have something to do with it and the consumer will be receiving more of this sort of bad news between now & then.

funny thing is within a month we both received the nicest letter from Chase inviting us to reopen the same 2 accounts @ very low initial rate, then even a lower rate than original rate on both cards:rolleyes:thanx but no thanks!

Wow. You seem to have gotten much better information than most people are getting. If you look on the Theme Park and the Budget boards, you'll see posts by people who are being told ALL sorts of nonsense by Chase reps, about having balances that are too high (when they don't have balances), to something on credit reports (the people are contacting the credit reporting agency referred to and are being told that there have been NO credit pulls, hard or soft), and so on.

Really? Wow....that's in total contrast to what a Chase member told me the other day. That's great. Although, I think whenever I order a rewards card, I'm going to ask them for a specific expiration date. Just can't trust anybody these days....

The rate can be low. I'm not sure what you mean by "not that low" but mine is 8.25% as of July 28. About a year ago, I e-mailed them and asked for a rate review. I told them that I would start using the card again if it had a better rate. A couple of days later, I got an e-mail from a rep saying that I had the new rate. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose.

I think that the Rewards cards expire in December of the following year. I got mine in July '09 and it expires 12/10.

Can the card also be used for DVC loan payments or only for annual dues?

Yep! I cashed in my rewards last month since Chase was closing so many accounts without any warning. My exp is 12/10.

I would proceed with caution. Chase is not a good banking partner and I really would not trust my Dis Visa to be the only card in my wallet especially when travelling.

Just google Chase practices and you will see. I would use them up and take them for all the rewards you can get, but I would not get too deep.

we're going to WDW in December and this will be my 1st time cashing in points (we have about $300). If I call in the next couple of weeks to get my card loaded w/ my disney dollars, I should be good for my trip, right?

Yes, you will need to activate it once it comes and mine is valid until 12/10 and I just ordered it last month. I plan on using it sooner than later because Chase is really in flux right now and I dont want to be left holding worthless rewards. They have really been flexing their "options" lately.
