Should I get a Disney Visa Card?

That's good to know. I was worried that we had so little time. Just goes to show that one Chase rep will tell you one thing and another Chase rep will tell you something else. :(

...I don't find the Visa card to be all that good of a deal.

Maybe I just don't use it enough. Typically, I'll chalk up 500-700/month in charges, and pay them off every month. That's 5-7 points a month. Less than 100/year. (Probably the biggest charge I made this year was our annual dues, which still netted us just a little over 10 points...)

All in all, the card gave us about one day's admission to WDW. Or one dinner at a nice WDW restaurant. It's better than nothing, I know, but the exchange is pretty low. AmEx's rate is better: one-for-one, that is: one point for every dollar spent; that paid for RT airfare for two of us (first class!) to Orlando.

Wow. You seem to have gotten much better information than most people are getting. If you look on the Theme Park and the Budget boards, you'll see posts by people who are being told ALL sorts of nonsense by Chase reps, about having balances that are too high (when they don't have balances), to something on credit reports (the people are contacting the credit reporting agency referred to and are being told that there have been NO credit pulls, hard or soft), and so on.

im a persistant sort;) & worked for many years in commercial banking & I make it a point to call all my card issuers every year to request a review for potential interest rate reduction (always was easy enough to mention the rate of my other best rate/main card, matter of fact just a few months before the large increase Chase dropped the rate on both our accounts:confused3).

btw, there are reports circulating about re those that don't use the card a certain % are getting notices of newly instituted very large annual fee:rolleyes:where there was none originally

still legal under the existing laws, just a shame for those who are now either forced to accept the new terms or close the account & pay as agreed, especially if it might be their only card.

I have another card that I have racked up points -- I also get 1 point for every dollar. However, the points needed to purchase items is SO much higher. For example, it will cost me 35,000 points for a $250 air fare. So, it may be all relative.

I'd be interested in what card you have that gives you a REAL dollar point for each dollar spent, if that's the case.

Love this card.

We pay it off each month but we charge everything!! Have for a few years now. This year we'll have 800 something ponits! That's our DDP!:thumbsup2.

We charge everything for this reason - co-pays, cable, all gas, food etc.

Now only this year did I learn that there is a separate character meeting in Epcot for Disney Visa Holders that I heard is good - icing on the cake I tell you!:rotfl:

Yes be careful - but we've had it for years and now actually depend on it to give us the spending money we need for the trip.

I am wondering if it is a good value to get the Disney Visa Card. Visa is currently offering a $40 credit for first purchase with the Disney card. I saw this when I looked into buying park tickets on line.

I wonder how much credit they give you for purchases? Does anyone have any experience with the card?

Hello

My wife and i just got the card last month. Let me tell you they are very friendly on the phone. I had to call b/c my name was spelt incorrectly on my card. Also you get perks like points, free gifts, discounts at local Disney shops at the parks and of course the 0% APR For 6 months is not to bad either..heh

Hope This Helps!

Cheers
Chad

With all the speculation about the new incentives for disney visa card holders for add-ons - also wondering whether I should sign up- planning an add-on soon....debating whether to do it now or wait for the new incentives....wondering if I don't have a disney visa before they announce would I be able to sign-up after and take advantage.....or should I just take advantage of the current incentives and be done with it????
Thoughts???

Awesome. I haven't heard about that. Do you have any details?

It is in innovations at Epcot. There is a time that the pictures start - maybe 1:00 PM not sure. Sometimes there is a line. We have been a few times, and each time, it was Mickey and Pluto. You wait in the line and have to show your Disney Visa, so don't leave it at the hotel or just bring the Rewards card. You and your family are let in to a little room, where you get to take pictures with the characters and there is a photopass photographer there as well. You will receive a certificate for a free 5 X 7 photo that I think you have to redeem at Epcot before the end of the day. However, you can redeem any picture on the photopass.

I love my Disney Visa card. I have over $400 now to spend. The only thing I hate is that I have a ridiculously low credit limit. They denied my request last year to up it, and then gave me a $1,000 increase - big whoop. If you saw my credit limit, you'd think I was a 15 year old with my first credit card. But anyways, I love that everything I charge goes towards free Disney money.

Speaking of the rewards card, I've never used it before. I was thinking of loading a card in January for my honeymoon. But then I was thinking of using some rewards towards my next trip in 3 days. Is there a way I can get points loaded onto a rewards card in Disney, or is it too late?

I have had a Disney Visa for years. If you use it and pay it off every month it is well worth it. If you carry a balance the intrest rate will kill you. The intrest rate, even for the best of customers, is way higher than any credit union. I would use the rewards every year and usually buy meals or souvenirs with the reward dollars.

and there have been many reports of chase increasing interest rates dramatically not based upon individual's credit score:confused3, moreso "market conditions":rolleyes1

DH & I both had our own account for years-single digit interest rates, mine slightly lower than his ha. I would carry a small balance now & again for a few months, rarely would DH.

i cancelled both pronto after reading change in interest rate on insert that came with statement. I did call and spoke to a supervisor, who apologized profusely and reiterated that it had nothing to do with usage, debt on other cards, credit score etc. merely, that they are instituted broad changes across the board. cynic in me would think the new CC laws next year just may have something to do with it and the consumer will be receiving more of this sort of bad news between now & then.

funny thing is within a month we both received the nicest letter from Chase inviting us to reopen the same 2 accounts @ very low initial rate, then even a lower rate than original rate on both cards:rolleyes:thanx but no thanks!

The reason that credit cards appear to be doing a lot of this recently is because the law is changing. They will have to give you 45 days notice before a rate hike (it is currently only 15) and you will also have to option to 'opt out' by suspending the account, paying off the existing balance at the old rate, and then the account is closed. They want to get those rate hikes in before the law changes (tomorrow, I think).

When I just signed up there are no annual fees. If there were, I wouldn't have done it. I they institute them, I will cancel.

BTW on DVCmember.com they are offering $100 gift card for signing up for a Disney visa!

It's just my (bad) luck! I saw this incentive the day after I applied for the Disney card. We're DVC members. Also, I just got an email that DVC members can get discounted tickets to MVMCP. I bought those last week!

Grrrrrrrrr................

Thanks. I was looking into the Disney Visa this morning and did not get around to applying.

Came here this afternoon and saw this. I just appled through the link on dvcmember. :)

What was the discount offered for the MVMCP, I have had my Visa for 4 years and love cashing in the rewards prior to each trip.

Amex blue does this. I got almost $1,000 in July as credit on my card for purchases during the prior year. I get 5% back on grocery, drugs, gas, etc. too. I only use my Disney Visa at places where Amex isn't accepted.

I didn't pursue it since I already have my tickets. It either came in the form of an email from DVC or I logged into their website; I don't remember exactly.
