Should I Fax the Poly?

For past visits we have always faxed the Poly with our requests, and we have been very lucky in getting what we wanted. But I have learned from the boards that the resort CMs don't always appreciate all those faxes! Should I fax our requests for our upcoming trip? We already have them noted on our ressie. Thanks for any input.:)

I don't know about the Poly, but I have seen posts from room controllers who said many of the resorts are throwing them away unread. It worked when a few people knew about it and they only got a few faxes, but I remember reading one post where the CM said they were getting hundreds a day. There is no way a room controller can read all those and keep them straight, so the faxes just make their job harder.
So, as long as your requests are on your original reservation, the information is in the computer where it needs to be for the room controller to use it. If it's noted on your confirmation slip, I wouldn't worry about it. If it's not, you could call the reservation number (no the resort) to make sure it's in the computer, but IMHO, I would not send a fax.

Hi Lori,

I can only tell you that I have never faxed the Polynesian in 20 something trips and have always had my requests that were noted on the reservation met. Every single time. So I don't think you need to bother and it does sound like the # of faxes the hotels receive is getting to be overwhelming. Doesn't Deb's site recommend against it now?

Have fun at the Polynesian. I can hardly wait myself.

From everything I've read (on about 5 different sites), they all NOW recommend that faxes not be sent. That was one of those "little secrets" that was good when not too many people knew about it. Now, it's (apparently) just gotten out of hand.

Good luck in getting your request at the Poly. I've never been able to......well, not since the early 70's anyway......when we actually got a garden view in (what was then) Tonga (now it's Hawaii and it's now concierge only).
Every trip since then, I've been "stuck" in Maui (which is now Rarotonga) looking towards the parking lot. Not that it's bad, it's just that I'd like something else for a change. I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want Samoa this time (or Niue). I wish I knew how to get one of those longhouses!!!!!!!!

Last time I forgot to fax but it was on our reservation that I wanted Samoa. We always check in really early before noon. Nice CM Juan told us we got the bldg. but not the floor. I had to them explain about ds asthma and how I wanted him near as possible in case he had attack and had to run back to room for machine hookup as too much exercise (constant trips up the slide etc) could bring it on very quickly in aug. We got what we wanted. Once we did not get what we wanted as it was the mid winter break time. I dont know what time you are checking in but if you are going during a very busy time that might be a factor. I always tell them I will gladly wait to later for a room after 3 if it is what we really want. Patience is a virtue! Good luck.

Due to children in school, we almost always go in June, July or August. I'm sure this has something to do with it.

We once went between Christmas and Jan 2nd (stayed in the Contemporary Tower) and were actually in the Magic Kingdom to ring in 1998. Well, I can say "we did it", but, NEVER AGAIN. I've never seen crowds like that in my life.......not even for the 4th of July. :earseek: AND, that particular week, it was actually colder in Central Florida (30s & 40s) than it was back here in the St. Louis area (50s). Go figure!

Our plane is scheduled to land in Orlando ~10:30 AM. I figure that we'll be at the Polynesian by noon-ish that day. Heck, I'd wait till midnight if I could get a room in Samoa! :sunny: ::yes::

for our recent trip 2/9 - 2/16 and got exactly what we asked for. I didn't know that faxes were now a no-no. Oh well. I don't think it'll hurt anything, it certainly worked like a charm for us.
