We have our rooms booked at Bay Lake Tower for Oct 5-13, but so far no luck in getting a good price on airfare. I have been looking daily on Delta since Nov 2013 when it opened up. Should i just bite the bullet and buy now or wait a bit still?

I am only looking on delta(but i have checked others and not had much better luck), because we received $400 in vouchers each from our last trip, so we have that to go towards the cost. The most ive ever paid for RT from Phoenix is $350, and usually a lot less in the past 13 years that i have been going in a row. I thought for sure the $400 would get us a free trip there, but the rates are running from $511-$650 RT, depending on day and times. Even the flights are not that good in my opinion. We usually fly to Atlanta and then to orlando, or even to SLC, but the lowest price flight wants us to go from phoenix to lax, then a 3 hour layover, then to orlando, so we leave at 6 am and arrive at 6 pm.

Not sure what is up with Delta with these flights.

Any idea what i should do?? $600 each seems pretty high to me to get there.

Personally, I am waiting. Once the six-month window opens, pricing should shift downwards. We are getting the same prices you are viewing from Portland.

Bing travel (online) has a good indicator (buy or hold) that begins to register at the six month window. Last year, prices dipped about 6 months away and fluctuated up and down for various flights as we moved closer to the fall.

If any of us could answer that question, we should run out and buy lottery tickets today!!! If I were you, once I saw a price I was willing to pay, I would buy the tickets. There is no guarantee what will happen to the price in the next 24 hours, let alone the next 7 months. We have found great fares 8 months in advance and great fares 3 weeks in advance. We have also had the opposite happen, too.

I went through a similar struggle. When JetBlue released its October sked last month, my flights were $175 pp. They quickly jumped to $501 and stayed there for weeks. They finally ticked down into the mid and upper $300s this week. And when they dropped back to $176 on Friday evening, I grabbed them.

Flights on United for the same dates/times were running about $200 pp and on US Air it was $139 (but we'd have to pay for checked bags).

At least with JetBlue I can buy and know that if it drops, I'll get a credit. I agree with PP, if you see a fare you can live with, jump on it. I'm not good at waiting until 6-8 weeks out to try for the supposed "best fares" window.

Normally, I would agree with Disneyag and advocate buying the tickets if you like the price offered. However if you are flying Delta, they have not released thier discount economy tickets yet (LUT fares). At the moment, they are mainly showing K fares, so I would wait to see what the LUT fares will be.
