Should Harry Potter have chosen Hermione over Ginny?

While I think Hermione and Ron make sense to some degree (opposites attract), I would have preferred if all three just remained good friends for the rest of their lives.

I always enjoy it when the protagonists don’t need to end up together. In fact, I always found the trio’s relationships with one another to be almost familial in nature with the manner in which they bickered and supported each other.

There is a what if fan fiction about what would have happened if they went out.
Interesting. Without having read it, my first thought is that if he had gone out with the waitress, he wouldn't have gone with Dumbledore to meet Slughorne. Without Harry, Slughorne wouldn't have been convinced to come to Hogwarts and teach. No Slug Club. Harry still might've found out about Horcruxes from another source, but he wouldn't have heard it from one of Tom Riddle's former teachers.

Without spoiling, he still goes with Dumbledore but he gives the waitress his contact info so they could talk the next day.

But he's not in school forever. And if there's goblin women, there's probably other magical weird species out there for him to eat at Red Lobster with. JK Rowling will probably tweet tomorrow. "And BTW: Harry marries a female centaur."
Imagine if he went out with a Durmstrang girl (All wizarding schools are coed in the books). That would have been interesting.

Are those the ones in the blue uniforms? There you go! That's where Harry finds his girl. Penny Ruffercrump is probably going to be her name, it sounds like something Rowling would pluck out of her grey matter.

To be fair, the casting department had no idea who were going to be together in the end since the books were still coming out as the movies were being made.

True. But she should have let them know since this is one of the weak points in the movies.

While I love Harry, that shows a little more forethought /common sense than Harry typically displays.

Yeah, and when they chose Bonnie Wright she was a small child -- hard to predict future chemistry between children.
And let's not be too hard on them; they were spot-on with Alan Rickman and so many other actors.

Interesting, but they'd so rarely be together, and I don't see Harry carrying on a long-distance relationship. The girl'd write him three letters, he'd write her none, and she'd give up on him.

That DOES sound like a Rowing name.

Agree, as Rowling surely knew of Harry-Ginny's future; however, in her defense, she was new to movie production.

I would think Durmstrang girls are probably more tomboyish maybe? Fireside chats and port keys would solve communication issues in my opinion.

Kinda weird that with all those long books, there were really no other potential romantic interests. I kept trying to think of other options.
But agree with some prior posts, it’s nice and tidy that family-less Harry and Hermione got to be true Weasleys. That’s sweet.

The main problem is that Dan Fogler is horribly cast and unlikeable and boring. That has pretty much doomed the current series.

Porpentina Goldstein reminds me of Ginny for some reason.

Later on Rowling said that she made a mistake with Ron and Hermione and that Harry and Hermoine should have ended up together. But by that time the movies were already finished.

Why can't Harry date outside of Hogwarts? Maybe Harry would like a goblin gal who works at the bank? Why must you all place such pressure on him after all he's been through? Maybe Harry needs therapy before he jumps into the dating circle. Wizards have complex emotions too, muggles!
Well he tried that once and before he could shoot his shot, Dumbledore wisked his magical rear end away! lol
