I'm goin to WDW in a couple of weeks. I've always thought about going parasailing at the Contemporary during every trip that I've had. Each time, I always chicken out. I feel like it would be an amazing experience, but I think I'll be terrified with being up THAT high. I would be doing it tandem w/ a friend. Should I go through with it??? Any help, advice, or encouragment would be great! Thank u . . .

Heck no! It's a blast! The only thing you have to fear is the bill for it.
Go for it, take the plunge! Take a camera up with you and then share the awesome pics you get.

I think it would depend on the level of your fear. If you think you will freeze up due to your fear I would say stay on the ground. If you might just experience some rapid heart beats and maybe perspire heavily I would say go for it.

I agree with philaround. It depends. I hate heights like looking over the edge of the mall railing. Silly I know! But I love roller coasters. Go figure. I was really nervous about parasailing, but did do it 2 years ago at the Contemporary. It was overcast and windy so that lead to my anxiety. It was very exciting after I got over the initial paranoia. You can see all 4 park icons in the air. You never get wet and the takeoff and landing are very smooth. I would definitely do it again. Just as an aside to the OP there is a weight limit for the tandem ride. My husband and I were over it. Make sure you check it out first so you are disappointed when you get there. I had hoped to go up with him to keep me calm.

I'd say go for it! I haven't ever parasailed at Disney, but I did it on a vacation in the FL Keys, and it was FANTASTIC!!! You are pretty high in the air, but the actual ride is so peaceful- quiet and smooth and just lovely. It is definitely worth the pre-ride anxiety.

Nope- I say go for it. I have a list of things I want to do and I try doing some of them when we go on vacations. This year we are going Hot Air Ballooning. Last year we got to see the Space Shuttle launch.

I am not a big fan of heights, but I did parasailing in Mexico, and it
was a great experience! I was terrified at first, but fell in love. I will totally do it again! :thumbsup2

Go for it. I've actually parachuted, the whole jump from the plane thing and I was never afraid of heights until I did that. I had a malfunction in my chute that was bad enough to hit the ground real hard but not bad enough to cut away to my reserve.

I'm sure you will have no such excitement and even if you do, at least you'll land softly in aligator infested water. Scream loudly. It really helps release the tension.

Seriously go for it. You'll have a wonderful relaxing time.

my dad broke his leg parasailing in Cancun. The brought him in to land on the beach and it was too abrupt. Do they always land on the beach???

I want to do this so badly!!! Anyone know the phone number/price for it? We already have a time in mind for it. Thanks! :cool1:

Well Corey you put the thought of parasailing into my head now... I never thought about it till now but if we have extra time and extra money I think I want to do it... (then again I say that now but I am sure it will be a different story when its starring my face)... Do it, take pictures and come back and post everything about it... If you love it then I will do it... :cheer2:

I just did my first parasailing tandem with DH at Castaway Cay. I hate roller coasters because of the "drop" and the feeling in my stomach during that drop. I chose Disney for parasailing because they will do everything to make it as safe as possible. My brother-in-law got his hip banged on the boat parasailing in Aruba, and I think this is far less likely with Disney. Some parasailing boat crews just want to get as many people over and done as soon as possible to make money, but my experience with Disney was that every person was treated respectfully and with safety in mind, no matter how long it took. In fact, our boat was late coming back because the previous group took longer than expected. But it was worth waiting for because it was so professionally and safely done.

I, too, worried about being up high, but over the water is not the same as plummeting from a height on a roller coaster. It was so smooth going up and down that we could hardly tell we were moving. I do think I would have been more anxious had I not been in tandem with my DH, but having done it that way the first time, I am not at all hesitant to do it again solo. It was a wonderful experience, truly one of the highlights of my Disney Land/Sea vacation, and I look forward to doing it again.

Remember, too, that you are over water and you are attached to a parachute. If the absolute worst thing happened, you'd float gently into the water (again, no "drop" feel like a roller coaster) and the boat would come and get you. We all had life vests on, too, and the material used to support us was like "no tear" stuff that was extremely sturdy. I highly recommend parasailing with Disney. They do it right, and you will likely have a marvelous memory to treasure in the end. Go for it! :cool1:

RESERVATIONS: For reservations or more information, please contact Sammy Duvall's Watersports Centre at 407-939-0754 (phone) or 407-939-0756 (fax). Reservations may be made up to 90 days in advance. Excursions may be cancelled at any time by Sammy Duvall's Watersports Centre due to inclement weather.

My husband and DS13 are going in August. My DH has wanted to do this for years and tried to go last year, but the wind and lightening kept him from going...And he is a bit afraid of heights... :)

I have some fear of heights, but I LOVED parasailing. Did it in the Bahamas a long time ago, back in the Precambrian era, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I have always had recurring dreams that I can suddenly fly. Parasailing was pretty close to that sensation. It's an amazing perspective -- and at Disney, with so much to see, it would be terrific.

(Wish me luck!)

Let's put it this way. Do you think Disney would let you do it if you stood a serious chance of getting hurt?

When our family went to WDW, we spent the first night outside the world (travel time, etc. not justifying an immediate entry). Just outside WDW there is some sort of attraction consisting of two enormous tv-style towers, from which dangle two elastic cords. Tourists trust the owners of these towers with their lives; they allow themselves to be strapped into harnesses, and are then catapulted up into the air, after which they bounce up and down between the two towers.

I for some reason don't trust this setup. I do trust Disney, however.

Go for it, and have fun!

We went parasailing at Disney last week. I am also afraid of heights, but I absolutely loved it! My daughter (16) went up first with her friend, and I then went up with my older daughter (21). I was anxious at first, but the woman who helped us and explained everything was extremely calming and genuinely nice. It is expensive (I think $340 for the four of us), but it was worth it. If I can do it, you can do it! Have fun!
