Short cut to WDW from Windsor Hills?

Hi, in answer to question from Jennobrn, this way gets you in the far southwest end of Disney which is by Animal Kingdom. (Remember Disney World is over 40 square MILES and has about 5 entrances.)

Coming in by Animal Kingdom will get you to AK first. Just keep going on Osceola Parkway past Animal Kingdom entrance and you will see signs that say All Disney Parks. It is a left turn at a small stop light. You will be right in the middle of the action right after that turn...

enjoy...Ted

I've been in that circle drive before, but never saw that Entry Point hooked up into it; I thought it was Westgate only. Now I know better. Thanks folks!

Thanks for the exit directions! We love to stay at WH and before that WP but we ALWAYS get lost trying to return. We gave up a few years ago and come out around Old Town but now we will follow signs for AKL.

You're welcome! The first time we tried it was confusing for us too...if you go straight by mistake..and it turns into a dirt road, you've gone the wrong way! We were barreling down this dirt road in the rental car when it dawned on us that the dirt wasn't ending! Good thing it was a rental car! LOL Once you've done it once or twice though it's easy.

We always wondered...who would name a road "Funie Steed" anyhow? :rotfl:

Wow! Glad you bumped this George.

Tthis route has you just crossing 192, not driving on it (right? asks the map-challenged one.)

Thanks all!

Exactly! It's the "5 minute" route to get to WDW from WHR! (or anywhere else in the Formosa Gardens area. If you go the other way it takes a lot longer!

to get to BWV parking - instead of turning into the theme parks - you keep going on Osceola parkway - you are turning where Pop century is (left turn) (right across from WWoS).

go to the end of this street - turn left - at the next right - turn right (gas station) - go down about a half block - this will be a traffic light - turn right - you are now in a parking lot that is directly across from BWV.

Now - this parking lot has no security guards and it does not have the lighting of a theme park parking lot. Several CM also park here. It is for people who aren't staying at BWV but want to visit BW can park.

For the directions-challenged person, I have a quick question! Is everyone saying it is best to use these shortcut directions just to go to AK and go the 192 way to the other parks? Or is this shortcut good for all of the parks? I know it will take us to AK first, but is it still faster to take the shortcut and go past AK to the other parks? Thanks!

It's good for ALL the parks! It's even better when you're coming HOME from the parks...and you will bypass all of the traffic that is leaving in masses after the various fireworks / shows end at night.

It's only tricky the first time you go there and return. Just remember...when you're coming home at night..follow the signs from anywhere in WDW for Animal Kingdom / AK Lodge and make a left at the traffic light before AKL.

When you're going TO the parks from WHR...the only tricky part is where you zig and zag by Funie Steed Road to get onto Entry Point/Sherberth Road. If you "miss" this part though it's not a big deal..if you end up on US-192 just go left and then make a right at Sherberth.

My map only shows the part where you make a right to get onto the WDW resort property...once you get to the part where it says "Disney" you just follow the signs to whereever you want to go! It's a LOT faster than going the other way! I can make it from the front door of our townhome in WHR to the parking lot in Epcot in exactly 7 minutes! Less to AK/MGM. (Don't ask me how I know this...hehe...yes I did time it!) (OK...I got to Epcot and forgot our tickets at home...woops!)

Here are the directions we have from Windsor Hills from the owner, we stayed there last year too and used these and they are very easy to follow. Hope it helps!

SHORTCUT TO DISNEY

To take the short cut to disney. Take Old Lake Wilson
Road back towards the 192, but take a left on
Morgan-Wilson. Take the next left onto to Funnie
Steed. At the stop sign take a right on Entry Point/Sherbath
road. Take Sherbath over the 192 and continue on into
Disney. It will only take you about 3-5 minutes to
get there.

On the way back from Disney, follow the signs for the Animal Kingdom Lodge. At the traffic lights before the lodge take a left onto Sherbath. You will also see the sign for the 192.

Here's a handy little map I made up of the shortcut route..print and take it with you! :)

It will only take you about 3-5 minutes to get there this way.

On the way back from Disney follow the signs for the Animal Kingdom Lodge. At the traffic lights before the lodge (it comes up fast) take a left onto Sherbath. You will also see the sign for 192.

On your map can you put a MARK where the Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Animal Kingdom Park are located? The street names mean nothing to me until I actually get there. thanks.

You will get it once you get there. :) We had never been there until last March and the directions are really simple to follow, that map is really good too! You'll be fine.

Funie Steed is a dirt road in case you end up on it and think you're lost.

I added a mark for you just now! Hope it helps.

On Funie Steed Road, if you end up on any part of a road that is dirt, you went the wrong way, turn back!

The part of Funie Steed where you zig and zag to get to Entry Point / Sherberth is all paved (this is the tricky part of the directions the first time you do it). If you end up on dirt though you went the wrong way! (First time I did it I went about 1/2 mile down the dirt road thinking...gee...this sure is a strange way to get to Disney!)

Enjoy! - George

Thanks for adding that to your map George! :thumbsup2

I think this time by staying offsite, we'll be able to drive around and see the different resort areas.

You're welcome! I'm not 100% sure I put AK in the right place! LOL..I know AKL is right...this is just intended to get you onto the WDW property. Once you're on WDW there's signs directing you everywhere.

I'm not sure what else you'll be able to "see" though to be honest...you're not going to be able to get into most of the other resorts like WP, EI, etc, they're all gated / guardhouse communities and pretty much won't let you in unless you have a good reason for being there.

I had to ask our MC to take me over to EI cause I wanted to see it...been to WP...but they wouldn't let me in just to look around.
