Okay, usually we stay offsite and Walgreens or the like is next door, or just 5mins walk away, so we can pick up the important things like milk, nice teabags (they're soooooo important!), etc.

Anyway, we're staying on-site this year and will, as usual, be without a car. Now, I dont ever remember driving past a Walgreens or similar, when catching either the public bus or taxi into Disney. Is there any supermarket-type places within the Disney resort area that are accessible by foot (bearing in mind we're at Pop Century)? Or will we have to pay for overpriced goods at the hotel shop??? :rotfl: Thanks

Why don't you try and get a car this time? or don't you drive?
Have never stayed at Pop Century.. but I can't recall any supermarkets at the resorts we've stayed at.
Yes, you'll probably have to pay for over priced goods at the resort shop.
Pop Century doesn't look too far from the 192.. where there are plenty of supermarkets etc..
Try looking for Lynx bus routes etc.. you might find a supermarket that is close enough to get to by bus.
Good luck.
Tracy

There are no supermakets within walking distance of Pop, the prices there are more expensive but they are not that bad, it would be cheaper to buy stuff there than hire a car.

Thanks Jen_uk! That's what I thought. It was just so I know to add a little extra to our budget for the necessities. Obviously been on DDP hopefully we won't need as many trips to the supermarket and our 'food trips' will be limited to milk and teabags. Can't go without decent teabags I'm afraid!

And castanea1985, I'm not allowed to drive, and while my mum is a different person from the very first time we went, and could easily handle the roads unlike last time, there is absolutely no point. It's much cheaper to go without a car, renting in it's own right isn't too bad, but by the time you add on the extras (tax, waiver fees, petrol) it's not worth it, even more so this year while staying on site!

The easiest thing to do will be to take some teabags in your suitcase, at Pop there is free coffee creamer in the food court or if you prefer you can buy cartons of milk. :goodvibes

I didn't think the prices in the food court at Pop were too bad for say a 2ltr bottle of coke which I used to keep in the bathroom packed with ice, same with carton of milk.

If you take the bus to DTD you can get a taxi from there to the shops round the Lake Buena Vista area for not too much money.

For some reason, we always forget to do that! :rotfl: You'd think we'd of learnt by now! Here's an odd question, does the Food Court do Fruit Loops??? I can't go to America and not have Fruit Loops!!!! ;) Maybe our trip to Universal will have to be at the beginning of the trip and we can take the short walk back to Walgreens on the corner of Universal Bulvd(?) and I-Drive :lmao:

They sell a few different types of cereal but I cant remember which ones apart from Frosties and Rice Crispies!

What about a taxi to the Crossroads where there is a Walgreens. Or, a bus to the Marketplace, a 10 minute walk to the Crossroads and a Taxi back to the POP to save a few $$

Hi Twighlight Terror,

I can understand you not hiring a car because of costs etc.. everyone has their reasons why they do or do not use a car when they are out there. We just enjoy the freedom a car brings, just being able to pop to the outlets, etc, and we need one as we play golf all around Orlando!

With regards to your grocery questions..
What about the mobile greengrocer... can't quite remember the name of it.. but I'm sure some of the villa users on the forum will know it.
I'm not sure whether they will deliver on site, but certainly worth finding out!!
My mum always takes tea bags with her... you'll have to put a reminder on your check list.. so you don't forget them!!
Anyway, good luck with your planning!
Tracy

We don't drive and agree that the Crossroads is trhe nearest accessible place to buy groceries...though I think it's probably about 25-30 minutes walk from Downtown Disney.

We got a cab there and walked back. Get a quote for the cab. I did a guesstimate of about $5 (bearing in mind how much it costs to get to the Premium Outlets). One guy quoted us $10-$15 dollars, strangely we said no and waited until he had gone (which seemed to take a while - people kept walking away from him - I wonder why) and then got a cab for $5.

Don't forget that the rooms at Pop don't have a fridge in them so you'd have to hire one for $10 a day. (we too pack our food court milk in the ice bucket so save there)

Oh yeah! I had forgotten about that too! Thanks for the price though, I was missing that information!

All the WDW on-site food courts/grocery stores we've visited have cereal in pre-packed bowls, and there have always been Fruit Loops :)

We took our own teabags as American ones are not the same (very weak!). We stayed at CSR and found quite a good range of things - surprisingly the main gift shop was better for food (including large milk and juice cartons) than the place where you could buy packed lunches and breakfast stuff to take away.

How about only getting a car for a couple of days, if your mum is happy to drive? We had a car for 2 weeks but probably only used it a few times, so DH said next time we'll only have it for a couple of days (for Universal and shopping)

Yeah, we usually end up getting either the UK imports, or the Liptons; they're reasonable. Why it's never occurred to us to take our own, I'm not sure! :rotfl: But they are on the top of my list of things to remember now, so yeah!

No, too much hassle. Besides, it's supposed to be a treat for mum as well, and she does enough driving at home, so we like to just relax and chill. I don't think you could pay us to drive - much better to let someone else worry about that and just enjoy our holiday!!! :woohoo:

Take your favourite tea bags from home
and buy the refillable mugs at the foodcourt

we have stayed at pop without a car and best place to get some cheap surplys(beer, cokes, krespi kream donuts, breadand chesse)is the onsite hess garage.Get the bus to downtown disney get of at second stop(planet holywood)Walk over to hess less than 500 yards .Then do in revese.Mak time about 45min we took a holdhaul with weels on easy to move stuff

Why not use the Disney transport to take you to the BoardWalk which has better grocery shopping stuff as there are a lot of DVCs near by. When you take the boat from Epcot to MGM (or vica versa) and you exit the boat the best shop is just in front of you and to the right.

Hope that helps.

there is also a hess outsde the entrance to the boardwalk as well have used this one when we stay at boardwalk
