I am watching this unfold and can not grasp how when the first shooting took place just after 7 this morning, the campus continued to operate normally with the student's going to classes until the shooter resurfaced in an academic building 2 hours later. One was killed in the dorm, aparantly. The others were all in the second attack that many hours later. I am just sick. Prayers to these families.

I am watching this and I'm having the same problems. Why wasn't the campus shut down after the 1st shooting? How many lives could have been saved?

DD18's best friend's sister is a student at VT. I don't think I'll be able to get anything done this afternoon until I hear she's ok. DD20 is away at college, and I can't imagine anything like that. And she's only an hour and a half away from us. It would be horrible to have something like this happen AND be hours away from your child.

I think they did start shutting it down but I guess it took time. My best friend's DD is there and she was on a bus into the campus (early in the morning) when the stopped the busses and turned them all around and told them to go back home and stay inside.

I don't know why but I can't stop crying over this. Maybe it's because I graduated a year ago and can feel the unease, worry, shock, and grief those students and families are feeling.

My thoughts and prayers are with them.

Here I am *****ing about my job and how a relocation to DC I wanted is not going to happen while there are families mourning the loss of a child. It puts so many things into perspective.

UNBELIEVABLE!! How did it get so out of hand? Now they are reporting at least 25 dead. I am listening to the local news and I am HEARING LOCAL NEWS!! No mention of it on the Springfield, Ma. radio station, WHYN! What is wrong with them??

This is just something I can't wrap my mind around.

They are now saying it was a 3 hour window between the shootings and all the way across campus from each other. One student is quoted as saying they were under lock down for a bit and then it was lifted, but the shooter hit again. Why was the lockdown lifted if they didn't have the shooter in custody?

Someone is going to have A LOT of explaining to do.
