Shooting at Va Tech

[Not missing the point, just do not share your views.

Frankly do not care what the rest of the worlds opinions are on our gun laws.

My opinion only: We need less government in our lives not more.

BUt, again my opinion only, this is not the thread for this debate. This is about the victims of the VA Tech killings.

I agree 100 percent with this post, this is NOT the PLACE to argue over gun control. If you want to start debating start another thread. This is a post for remembering the victims.

Yes, you are right, but he might not have been able to pull it off with a knife. I feel sorry for everyone including the guy who did the shootings, but it's the gun culture that is the problem. You tell me how you could pull the same thing off without a gun and I'll sign to keep guns legal. :(

As long as the mind set in his country blindly supports the NRA this will happen. The constitutional right to bear arms was not written into the constitution in this atmosphere and certainly not with these weapons. How can people mourn this awful loss and not see the weapons as a huge problem? He walked into a shop and walked out with a semi automatic weapon!

Hear, hear.

You are missing the point (i'm just quoting your's as an example). .. this is a college-aged kid... not a terrorist. He doesn't have access to terrorist supplies/equipment planning. It's a KID for pete's sake. Is it me, or is everyone wearing blinkers??

I have only read the last few pages of this thread, this struck me. Are you saying that, since he's just a kid (which I disagree with that view, btw), the only reason he was able to kill people was because he had a gun and that he couldn't have used any other weapon to kill people? What does it matter whether he was a kid or adult? I'm not getting that conncection.

I've heard people lay blame on Halo and Grand Theft Auto today too as well as tv shows where people are shot. What about the heyday of cartoons with Elmer shot Daffy's face off and then Bugs shot Elmer in the face? Don't people feel that that type of desensitizing violence was as bad as today's desensitizing violence?

Thanks, did not catch that on the news. I just surmise it would take a bit to file the serial numbers off 2 guns, get chains and locks for the doors, and know enough to not carry an ID on you and shoot yourself so you are not easily recognized. This guy had it all planned out weeks ago.

Welcome! It does seem like he planned this out for sometime now.

What they just discussed on BBC was the totality of video games glorifying hunting people down and shooting them, and the easy access to weapons... Like they said, his writings were sinister, which alone would not have been as disturbing, but combined with the fact he was a loner and together it caused people some conternation.

You can not honor these victims without discussing them as individuals, heroes or not, and how and why they died. If it is OK to speak of the shooters mental status and journals, his weapon of choice is fair game also.

I'm just so sad.

Having a daughter at college, it was just too close to home to think about.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Virginia Tech.

Hold your children tight. :grouphug:

Crack isn't legal either, but the bad guys manage to get it. I hate, hate, hate guns, but would making them illegal really fix anything? Then only the bad guys would have them.

I have a son in college and couldn't help but think, "That could have been me. I could have gotten the call that said, 'Hi, your son was murdered today.'" I've been praying for those families.

As far as guns go, you can't blame the gun any more than you could blame the grenade if he'd used that. The person who chose to use it is the one to blame, for God's sake. And, if more kids had had guns on them there'd be less dead kids.

No. MURDER is illegal. Obviously, the killer wasn't basing his action on what was legal. Geez O Pete.

FYI. I had a neighbor over tonight for dinner. She is going through a divorce. Anyhow she is changing all the utilities over to her name.

We were watching the CBS news, they were explaining how easy it was to get a gun in VA.

She was  !

It is EASIER to get a gun in VA, then to have a phone line put in your name by Verizon in PA. :guilty:

I just watched the 20/20 review of the incedent and I am sickened, just sickened by the attempts by Stone Phillips to blame anybody except the shooter for the tragedy when he was speaking to the father of one of the victims. The father maintained his composure in the face of such idiocy, fortunately.

Hmm, I didn't get that impression about the show. :confused3

Please verify any requests for money...there are always people exploiting these tragedies. ( I don't know about this one, just verify with the university)

They are going through the university to do it, they are making sure the money will go to what it's suppose to before anything is fully established.

I have a question (excuse my ignorance as I know nothing about buying weapons). I thought I heard the shooter was here legally on a VISA. If true, how does that qualify for the purchase of a gun...shouldn't you have to be a citizen?

Anyway...I feel terrible. This is absolutely terrifying for everyone...especially for those of us who send kids off to school. I pray for all those poor kids and their families and I wish God speed to those we have lost!!

It varies state by state! It seems as though it is quite easy for anyone without a previous police record to purchase guns in VA! One every 30 days.
