Shoe Question (Teeva or Keens good for long day at park?)

Hello! I am going to be in Disney in late August for 2 weeks. I know Florida is legendary for rain and I was going to bring several pairs of shoes. I am not much of a sandals person, but I was wondering if Keens (hydro closed toe) or a Teeva outdoor sandal (open-toe) are a comfortable shoe to wear all day at the parks. I was wondering if anyone has had experience wearing these for a long day after walking for many miles like what happens at Disney.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

I am wearing a pair of Keens sandals right now, and I think they would be a little hard for walking all day, though they have great arch support. I took this pair to Europe with me, but they didn't get worn nearly as much as a pair of Sketchers sandals with memory foam. I also have two pairs of Teevas that have successfully spent many an hour romping around theme parks.

I like the sporty sandals at theme parks because inevitably my feet get wet, though it sounds like either of those would deal with water just fine. Could you try them both out for a couple of days and decide?

I live in Vionics... year round. Orthotic type support but without that type look. Tons of choices open or closed toe.. though I typically wear thong type with non suedes footbed. 10- 12 hour days no issues for me.

Whatever you choose, I suggest you break them in before using them for the long disney days.
I typically bring a washcloth to dry my feet and shoes after the rains!!

I am also not a sandals person, but bought a pair of Tevas just for the parks. I usually alternate days between wearing running shoes and the sandals, and it works pretty darn well considering all the walking that I do.

I’ve worn both in the parks and have been comfortable! I do make sure to alternate shoes so I’m not wearing the same pair every day. Last trip I wore Keens, Olukais, and Noats. I’ll probably do the same for our trip this summer.

I find Tevas make my feet stink after a while and I don't like the open, slidy feel. Love Keens though, both the sandals and the light, mesh running shoes!

I've used both Teva and Keens and for me, the Keens are my go to shoe. I wear the Targhee II daily and at WDW I usually have the Newport sandal along with the Targhee (which is a full hiking type shoe). My wife also wears the sandals and we have worn them all day many times. I would think the sandals with a heal strap would be best (they stay on and feel more like a shoe). Keen also has a Teva looking sandal (if you like that) as well that I also use. All are "water proof" meaning they can get wet and survive. I've worn a pair of Targhees though a flooded St. Marks Square in Venice even and splashed in the ocean in the sandals!

Oh and for the ones that get stinky, set them out in the sun to bake for a while. Kills of the bacteria and you're good to go. But you're right, they do tend to stinky after a while!

If I am doing a lot of walking I prefer my Keens for more support. Also I found my Teva sandals to be really slippery on the wet floors when it was raining.

I live in my Tevas all summer, every summer, as well as any trips to WDW (which are usually at hot times of year in FL!)

Because I wear them so often, I find that they last only 2 to 3 summers per pair, for me. In fact, during my last trip (a couple weeks ago), one of the straps on my Tevas snapped off shortly after I entered Epcot- they were at the end of their "life cycle" and I hadn't really consider this when packing for my trip, so they were the only pair of shoes I had with me.

I ordered a new pair on Amazon with next-day shipping to my resort, and got a pair of Mickey Crocs from Mousegears to get me through the day.

So, just something to keep in mind with Tevas - they're amazingly comfortable, great for the parks, but if you abuse them like I do, they won't last forever. ;)

We all wore Keens most of our 9-day trip earlier this month with no problems. DH has two pair and rotated his, DS15 and I each had one pair with us. I wore mine all but 1 park day and they were fine. We had rain most days (not all day rain), and I can't stand wet shoes and socks, so I didn't chance it.

DH & I have worn Tevas for 20+ years and they're all I ever wear at the parks. DH likes to alternate between Tevas and sneakers but his Tevas don't have support built in and mine do so I'm fine with wearing them for 5-7 days in a row.

I think you're going to hear votes for both shoes. As some others have mentioned, it's a good idea to rotate shoes. It really makes a difference. I wear Keen Whispers in the parks and in the summer months I rotate with Croc slides. (In less hot and rainy months, I love wearing Skecher Go Walks.) The Keens have good support and are great in the rain. The Crocs are very comfortable, but not the best in the rain. My daughter rotates between Keens and Tevas and likes both.

I think that you need to go with whichever shoe feels better on your own feet. For example, I tried on Keens and Tevas and hated how the Keens felt, but loved the Tevas. I wore those all week in WDW 2 weeks ago in 88 degree humid FL weather, walked in them through the rain, and never had a blister. My feet were just fine.

Teva flip flops for me, I wear them at Disney, and all summer long. They are very comfortable and affordable to buy different colors to coordinate .

I wear waterproof Tevas and they're perfect for park touring.

Just curious why crocs are not good on the rain, are they slippery? I got 6 pairs of different types of shoes to bring to Disney. Tivas & crocks included in the mix... I’m clumsy so don’t want to slip!

Yes, they're slippery in the rain-- both the outsole and insole. The worst part is that my feet slide around on top of the shoe, and it seems easy to twist an ankle. But, I've only worn the Croc slides, not the Croc clogs. Perhaps those are fine in the rain, but I wouldn't know.
