Shocking and tasteless "joke" e-mail received

I don't get this either. I just don't think the joke is funny. However, if something upset me, I don't think I'd be passing it along to thousands of others.

You can't describe its awfulness, so you post it on a popular discussion board :confused3

I thought that was a little odd myself. If it was too horrible to describe, it doesn't make a lot of sense to post it. That only gives the originator of the email more publicity.

Personally, I thought it just stupid and one of those e-mails that I would just delete after I opened it.

ITA!

I think the OP was just venting and the best way to vent effectively was to post the object of her disgust - so that people would understand what she was unhappy about.

I don't think her intention was to give the originator publicity. Give her a break please.:)

Well, if I do ever see it on a plane, at least now I'll know its a forwarded email. Hopefully.

BTW....I saw that countdown posted on another message board a few days ago in response to someone else. Now I know where it came from at least.

I got that one too. It makes me sick that someone thinks that's funny. I would hope if some idiot acts on the suggestion, they get arrested immediately upon landing - it's just a big slap in the face to everyone who lost someone that awful day.

And I was ticked off at the friend who forwarded that junk to me. She should know better.

So, you were ticked at the friend who forwarded this junk - thought she should have known better.

Yet it is ok to forward it to thousands and thousands of people because the excuse is to vent?

:confused3 I am so confused.:confused3
I will never, ever understand the logic of these boards :scared1:

The only thing I find funny about this whole tread is that, in typical DIS fashion, the thread has turned into questioning the OP's actual reason for posting this.

I really loved the post that bolded a few words she said and turned into "and you posted here about it??"

Geez, give the woman a break...talk about nitpicking.

THANK YOU!
I thought I was the only one not understanding the logic. ;)

See, I understood it from an entirely different perspective. I thought it had more to do with the infuriating nosiness of others who can't seem to entertain themselves while seated on plane/train. I usually try to work in those situations...I hate when someone can't keep his/her eyes off my stuff. And then they want to talk about it. Holy cow.

If it is to be taken as serious in a post-9/11 world, why is it ok at work or on the train? Why is it only offensive (to some) on a plane?

No matter where I was when I opened it or saw it I would never find that funny. Yes, very poor taste.

I thought it was hilarious. :lmao:

Please don't flame me. It is a JOKE, people!

ITA. A while back someone posted a news article that she found so horrible that she wished she hadn't read it. Then why spread the good news? :confused3 :lmao:

When I click on it I get a new screen that has a clock run down to 00:00:00, and then it flashes.

Is that it? Is that what is so terrible or is it not working properly for me?

If you can see the writing at the top, and it's black and red, that's it.

Alright, I'll enlighten you.:)

I thought the joke e-mail was pretty bad, and it bothered me that a friend of mine forwarded it to me. When Jennasis posted about this same e-mail, I commented that I thought it was bad. That's it. I don't see the big problem with that.

I then went to bat for Jennasis when someone flamed her for posting the contents of the e-mail. I was simply saying I believed her reason for posting the contents was so everyone would know exactly what she was ranting about. It's hard to rant about something to someone if the rant recipient doesn't totally "get" what the rant is about.

So I may not be the most logical person on the DIS, but I will never apologize for backing up someone who I feel is being flamed unfairly. I'm not the combative type, but watching someone get stomped on when they meant no harm is not my thing.

Thanks for the reply.

Since that's all there is I am really at a loss on how it's worth this much discussion.

And like osme others I am also really at a loss to understand the logic of saying how terrible it is, and it should not be shared, and then posting a link to it here. But this isn't the first time I have seen somebody say something is terrible and then shared it here. It doesn't make sense IMO why some people need to spread things they think are terrible.

You know, this is one of those threads that would really enhance the potency of illegal drugs, if the reader was partaking...(not me, I'm just sayin)

weird joke, debate over the jokes worth, debate over posting the joke, debate over debating the posting of the thread...it's like looking into an infinity mirror...

Not that I really found it funny,

but I don't think the creator/sender/whatever of this joke was actually serious/literal about doing this as a joke…obviously that would be unacceptable. The ‘joke’ is just the actual thought of doing it….kind of like telling your friend the day before your flight to yell “Hi Jack!” across the plane in midair and having a quick chuckle at the pun. HaHa. Pretty obvious you’re not expected to actually do that on the plane as a joke

I don't get it. Is it just a countdown or is there more supposed to happen?

You are not the only one who did not get it. I did not get it either and I was starting to think that I was the only one who did not get it.
