Agent: Shirley Temple Black Dead at 85
Feb. 11, 2014
By ABC NEWS via GOD MORNING AMERICA

Former childhood movie star Shirley Temple Black has died, her agent announced in a press release.

She was 85.

According to the press release, she died Monday night, surrounded by her family and caregivers.

Black is best known for her doe-eyed turn in numerous 1930s films, including "Bright Eyes" and "Curly Top." After her entertainment career ended, she served as a U.S. ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia.

Her survivors include three children, a granddaughter and two great-granddaughters.

She has set sail for her final journey on the good ship lollipop. :sad1: :sad2:

Well that stinks!! This is the first I am hearing of this and I am surprised Facebook isn't going crazy with RIP's for her. I guess maybe because she didn't die with a needle hanging out of her arm or some other tragic way it isn't FB status worthy.

Alot of young people don't know her

I am saddened by this news. She was a gifted actress, and a humanitarian. Rest in Peace, Shirley

Could be she is more worthy than FB.

I will always treasure watching her movies with my mom when I was a little girl!
And to go out to a special dinner (which was only a once in a while treat) and get a Shirley Temple? That was the bomb! I felt like such a special princess!
My kids love getting Shirley Temples too~ a love I've passed down to them for sure!
Honoring her life and contributions today :)

Well Phillip Seymour Hoffman's death WAS more newsworthy as it was under tragic circumstances. An actor cut down in his prime.

Shirley Temple Black (who I admit, thought was already deceased), died well into old age, and while there hasn't been a cause given yet it was probably just "her time". Her death itself isn't as "newsworthy" but remembering her life certainly is, which is what all the stations have been focusing on.

It's a sad day. She was a talented young actress in her day and a dedicated public servant later in life. Luckily she has left behind quite the amazing legacy and will never be forgotten.

After this, Hoffman, and Maxamillian Schell, I hope that's the "they come in 3's" end of it.

It was all over my facebook feed by 7:30 EST, and most people would have been asleep and not seen it much sooner (and some had it posted on facebook sooner anyway).

My teens have seen more of her movies than I have, and most of their friends know who she was as well.
