I was hoping my Budget Board friends could help. :flower3:

I need to return a $25 Vera Bradley purse. What is the best way to ship insured? How much will it cost?

I have both a UPS and USPS nearby- what do you recommend? :confused3

The USPS Priority Mail flat rate boxes are often a good deal, especially if you don't have a box already. I've also found FedEx Ground is sometimes the cheapest - you can check the rate and find a store on their web site.

I would ship USPS Priority because I can pay online and leave it out for the mail lady.

UPS is often cheaper if I use my account (free online) and pay online but usually takes longer and I have to go drop off the box. UPS paid at Staples or UPS store is more expensive. When I sell on eBay my account is cheaper then paying UPS via PayPal. Though the purse is light enough that UPS may not be any cheaper then USPS.

USPS flat rate priority is more expensive then either using your own box via priority or a non flat rate priority box. To save with the flat rate box you need to ship a brick and a vera purse is not that heavy.

You can get cost estimates online but with UPS you want an account to get the better rate.

Owned a mail order catalog for years.

I can't imagine a Vera Bradley purse weighing a whole lot. I would go to the USPS, send it Priority Mail with Insurance. It looks to be about $5.10 for the postage (not over 1#) and the Insurance up to $100 isn't that much at all- starts at $1.75

There is a postage calculator online at USPS.com & they also provide the free boxes if you ship priority mail

OP here

:thumbsup2 Thank you all very much for your help. :)

I think I'll be using USPS Priority, about $7 with insurance.
