I will be adding $$ to my shipboard caccount before we board. My question is....if you have $500 already on there will they still need a ccard?

I "THINK" a credit card is always required. You do have an option to pay off the balance in cash so you don't end up with the card being charged.
One thing I did notice, and this may have been unique to our cruise....was my bill was split in two and each portion billed to my card seperately. We did the 12-27 New Year's cruise. I got a charged for everything from 12-27 to 12-31 on 12-31, and billed for everything charged 1-1 to 1-3 on 1-3, but they might have done that because of the end of the year coming in the middle of the cruise.

Actually, on both cruises we did with DCL, they charged our credit card halfway through the trip and then again at the end. Neither time was at the end of the year.

You don't HAVE to put down a credit card. We wanted to keep a really close handle on spending, so we decided to pay w/ travelers checks. Pretty much you can charge up to $200.00 and then they cut you off until you pay them! We did fine. We figured out how much we would likely spend, then put that amount down on the card the second day. On the afternoon of the last day we gave them our Debit card to take care of any last minute charges so we would not have to monkey with it later.
I think if you have a $500.00 balance, you won't need to worry for a while.
When you get your doc's just check cash.:D

I don't mind using the card - but it is a debit card and I really want to rebook while onboard so I would like to have the $500 taken care of. I don't think the two of us will spend more than that on a 3 nighter.....
