Good thing my DH doesn't lurk on the DISBoards!

In 2 weeks, we will be married for 10 years. I went to a local bakery today and they are going to reproduce our wedding cake on a smaller scale for our anniversary! I am so excited! Now I just have to hope that my kid won't ruin the surprise!

Ahhhh that is sweet! Happy Anniversary

We have been married for 22 years and I still have sugar flowers from our cake top in my freezer - my grandmother saved them and we found them in her freezer all labeled & very well packaged and preserved when she died. For some reason they were important to her and it would not be right to throw them away :goodvibes

That's so sweet (in more ways than one)!!

Really, that's a wonderful idea. Sadly, I can't remember what our wedding cake was like - but it was over 21 years ago.

We did save the top layer and eat it on our 1 year anniversary!

Very sweet.

However, neither DH nor I would recognize what it was a replica of. :( I have pics and all so we could figure it out but if I showed up with a cake like this I think he'd just think wth? LOL

Very sweet and Happy Anniversary, OP ... but like others have posted, my DH would have never remembered what our wedding cake looked like 5 years IN ... :lmao:

BUT we will be celebrating 30 years in October!!!

Congrats! What a great idea.

Our 10th is also this year and we'll be at WDW for it. When we found out we saved some extra money for the trip, my first thoughts were CAKE!!! WDW DOES make special anniversary cakes that look like small wedding cakes.

We were married at Disneyland and had the cake they call Goofy's Presents. It is a Mad-Hatter style lopsided cake so he'd know it right away.

Congratulations!

10 years is a biggie:yay: and I love the idea!
Let me ask though, you don't expect your DH to actually remember what the cake looked like to the degree that he will recognize you went through the trouble of having it made in mini do you? Your idea is wonderful but even the most thoughtful DH was probably more interested in his wife than the cake on his wedding day :lovestruc I just thought it needed saying so you don't get too disappointed if he doesn't 'get it' without some clues, like a big sign that says "OUR WEDDING CAKE IN MINIATURE" because that's the only way my DH would ever get it:rotfl:

Maybe we will do that for our 40th next year. Neat idea. Congratulations.

Hi megthewonderful,
That is a great idea and very thoughtful. I have found that the sentimental gifts are the ones that are the most well received. Happy Anniversary and congrats on 10 years! party:

Yeah, I totally agree with her. I think the cake is way more a bride thing. I'm not sure I remember what our's looked like 18 years ago and I'm the bride!

I hear you, I would have to go look at the pictures :lmao:

I am going to have to agree too that the cake is more a bride thing.

However, the thought and effort put into the cake by the OP is what is special.

I know for a fact my husband has no idea what our cake looked like back then. We were watching cake boss the other day and they were using fondant. My husband was commenting on it.

I had to remind him of our cake 25+ years ago. Back then, fondant was NOT popular at all where I lived. Our cake was extremely nontraditional in that we had a fondant cake. It was whispered about by many of the females at the reception because it was flat and plain, not with lots of pretty, fluffy buttercream. We had the smooth layers with a simple ribbon, some embellishment and flowers. People could not get over how "flat" the icing was and that we didn't have any fountains in the middle.:lmao:

Even after all that, my husband doesn't remember our very nontraditional cake.

That's sweet.

But I agree that if that was my surprise for my dh he'd be mighty disappointed! LOL If I asked him, I'm sure he couldn't tell me a single thing about our wedding cake! :cool2:

How exciting!! I hope it turns out perfectly. Happy Anniversary!

Oh those fountains were a must back in the day..:lmao: and the bigger and puffier the sleeves on the dress the better :lmao:
