Hi all-

Has anyone out there stayed at the Sheraton Safari?

I have seen the web site, and of course, the pictures there look great, but would like an opinion.

Also, how reliable is the shuttle to the parks?

Thanks in advance....

JWF

We stayed at the Sheraton Safari in December and were happy with the hotel. They have a nice pool with a python slide, but it was too cold for us to go swimming.
The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly.
We had no problems with the shuttle service, they were always on time and also very friendly.
I would stay there again.
I was a little disappointed with the way the hotel is advertised on their web page as far as location. I believe their site says it is across the street from the entrance to Down town Disney. This was my first trip and not knowing anything, I assumed we could walk to Down town. Yes, it is across the street to the "entrance", but it would be quite a walk to actually get to Down Town.
The transportation desk called a taxi-van for us and it only cost $7.00 for 5 people each way to down town.
Have a wonderful trip.

I am sitting in my room now at this Hotel:) There is no Free Continental Breakfast which I really would of loved but I was able to rent a frig for $5 a day. It's like the ones you have in dorm rooms so is small but manageable. Get the STARWOOD members card from there site. It's free and can get you possible upgrades which being a first time user they upgraded me from a parking lot view to a pool view.

The rooms are clean and noting too fancy but for being by myself it's just fine. Having the Patio or a balcony is very nice also for each room. The Local call charges are .87 a call which is more then others I have seen for .50 so wondering why theirs are more hmmm.

I have had no complaints other then they say your check in is 4:00 on the web site, here they say 3:00 and I got it at 4:30. They pool are is big with it's chairs and trees and Macaw Birds (Scarlet & Emerald I think). This morning they had a show with a monkey that was neat. I have heard kids asking when they were leaving the park so they could go back swimming and sliding on the slide hehe. When I was waiting for my room I did hear a woman on a pay phone telling someone that this place was Tacky which I guess was her opinion but I wasn't expecting anything more then what I got.

I think that is all so GL! on your trip:)

Just got this hotel for 8 nights in Oct. for $40 (+$3 bonus)/nt through priceline and am really anxious to hear more about it. Especially interested if King rooms are available. Anyone else?

but a friend from work has stayed at this hotel and said that it was more than decent. It is fairly convenient to Disney property.

# 1 Titans Fan....I think you got a great deal at $40.00 a night.
I did not use priceline and paid rack rate of $95.00 a night.
We stayed in a standard room so I can not tell you if they have king rooms. Have you checked their web site?
As Sugrplum mentioned, it is a good idea to enroll in their STARWOOD program. This may help you get an upgrade.
Enjoy your trip!!!

Just Got Back Home

I don't know anything about the King Size room if they have that also since I was in a standard 2 beds room. I thought the Shuttles were VERY! reliable. Were either there right on time or a minute past. This Hotel is one of their first stops so I guess is why for the good timing. We always made one more stop at the Hotel down the street before heading out to the parks. No matter what park they picked you up at it was always the same bus parking spot number (sometimes instead of #32 they were be in #31 or #33). The drivers seemed pretty nice but speak broken english so don't expect much info beyond their job area.

Across the street is a Bargain World and a Shoney's. Beside the Hotel is a Pizza Hut and a Pizza Hut along with some other restaurants and shops. It's also close to I-4 which is also convenient. Like also someone else had mentioned about them saying it's 1/8 of a mile to Disney it's not. So don't expect to walk to it and with the Heat you probably wouldn't want to walk far any ways.

In the Lobby is also a Transportation desk and a Guest Relations desk also that is VERY! helpful. They try to get you to do a Time Share thing at another Sheraton so if you aren't into that just politely say you aren't but they sell park tickets at park rates and have all the info you will need. Along with car rentals and foreign currency exchange. GL!

I'm not sure about king sized rooms either, but we were upgraded to a suite because we had a Starwood gold card. I think we paid $32 a night through Priceline, so it was a great deal. The suite was very large for two people, with a sitting area and kitchenette. It was very clean, but slightly worn. We were very pleased for the price.

What is a Starwood card and how does a UK resident go about getting one in a short period of time. I am booked into the sheraton safari through a UK travel company from 2nd july for 9 nights, and I am intrested in the fact that a starwood card can get free or cheap upgrades, although I do not know if it could do this for someone booked in via a travel company.
Where are the best standard rooms (eg facing the pool, which floor, which block etc). Does the hotel resond to fax or e-mail room requests.

Walter

If you go to Sheraton's website www.Sheraton.com , there's a link to where you can sign up for Starwood for free; they even have a temporary membership card you can print yourself once you've signed up. Thanks to everyone else for all the info.

Signing up for a Starwood card can't hurt, but I believe you usually have to have a gold card to get an upgrade. You can get this after you stay a certain number of times at Sheratons and other Starwood hotels. I got mine because I have a Starwood Amex card, so they comped me gold for one year. You can't apply for this Amex right now because they are unveiling their "new version" sometime this month.

I got my room there through Priceline and was also the first time I had my Starwood card. They said I was eligable for a pool side room which for me was the even number rooms on my floor so not sure if that is true for all floors. I did notice that when I got my receipt it did so no points were added to my Starwood card. So this could mean I used them up to get this upgrade or since I was through a lower price no points were given. But HEY!! I'll take a upgrade any way I can get one:) GL! OH!!!! and even though you get a temp card when you sign up make sure you call them and mention it. BUT!! this was what I did and they still didn't get it so I brought along the card and that was when they mentioned I could get an upgrade but not before. Also there is a specific line at the registration desk for Starwood holders just in case it is busy which it wasn't while I was there.:)
