We are all going to Universal February 13th and leaving the 18th. I asked what rides one of our pregnant ladies should avoid and some of you said, Shrek..(to go on a seat that doesn't move around) and MIB...My husband and I were at Universal Studios a few years ago...I rode MIB...and I'm trying to remember....It jerks around that much? She's due July 21st....

My sister and I didn't realize how much the Safari ride jerked and bounced so much...not being pregnant or having back problems....My sister's daughter (who had back problems) rode on it...Whew! She never went on it again...yet she rides the roller coasters...So...I know that everybody is different

I think somebody also mentioned the Dr. Seuss ride, too...I'm trying to remember that ride...It jerks around? So...anybody pregnant shouldn't ride it either? She wouldn't ride on roller coasters even if she weren't pregnant.

I feel a bit bad about her not being able to ride on very much...Anything else she shouldn't ride on that might seem "deceiving"?

I got this info from Universal....

Due to the nature of the attractions, expectant mothers are requested to avoid riding Disaster, Jaws and use the stationary seating in Terminator 2:3-D Battle Across Time, Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios.

You should avoid riding the following rides at Islands of Adventure: The Incredible Hulk Coaster, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom's Fearfall, Dueling Dragons, Jurassic Park River Adventure, Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls, Cat In The Hat, Storm Force Accelatron, Flying Unicorn or Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges. Universal provides comfortable areas where you may wait for your party.

With Cat in the Hat, the "spins" at the end of the ride would probably be the reason to avoid it.

Same with MIB. If your car gets hit by a shooter in the opposite car, you'll spin.

I don't know that either would be enough motion to matter, but that's a personal call.

Rides with intense spinning or dropping should be avoided.

Jaws has a couple of small bumps, but is otherwise safe for expectant mothers. Popeye & Bluto's Barges are mostly wet. The whole "tube" does spin, but not as bad as Cat In the Hat.

I would even say that Storm is okay to ride if you let the ride spin on its own. The individual pods don't spin *that* fast, unless the inner wheel is turned.

So are you saying the "spinning" would be bad for her because she may get sick to her stomach...or because it would be jerking her around?

The Terminator seats simulate, too? Gosh...I didn't remember that. Well...I guess since that is my grandchild she's carrying...I'll be sitting off those rides, too...The rest of the group..(12 of us) will be riding everything....and that's OK...We can ride anything tame...and shop around with the others are on the spinning, jerky, attractions...:thumbsup2 :lmao:

Phamton had the best explanation. Too bad she's hiding at the moment. :jester:
But from what I gathered, any rides with intense spinning or dropping have the risk of taking blood away from the baby, which is a big no-no. The baby is very protected however, so some bumps and shakes shouldn't be too bad.
Bev, this is your cue to correct me if I'm wrong.:p

As for T2:3D, the seats only move twice, maybe 3x at the most. A small "down" feeling and a thud at the end. Not much otherwise.

Please have her discuss with her doctor what she can and cannot do. My doctor allowed me to do anything I felt comfortable doing. I rode horses up until I delivered my twins and this was with my doctor's blessing. I went to Disneyland, Universal Hollywood, SeaWorld, and Knotts Berry Farm when I was 3 1/2 months pregnant with twins and did everything. (I didn't know I was having twins at the time though.) They were both 7 pounders and healthy when they were born. But my doctor was of the belief that pregnancy isn't a disability. Other doctors are more conservative. She needs to follow her doctor's advice.

I think I will advise her to talk to her doctor, like you said...I know she wouldn't go on several of the rides any way...pregnant or not....but, some of the ones you mentioned earlier..I just hadn't thought they would be that bad....Of course...it has been 36 years since my last child was born...and things have changed considerably..inclduing how to take care of the babies!
