Well her body did not get the memo! My coworkers daughter has developed young, and a camp instructor called mom to tell her she thinks her daughter might be more comfortable if she had a bra. A teacher had also suggested this the past school year, as did a gym teacher, based on her daughter wearing layers and layers of shirts to hide. Mom still refuses, her daughter is "just too young." What?! After much discussion at work, she has agreed to try some sports bras or sports tops with support. This poor kid. Sometimes you just have to open your eyes and see what is in front of you. Age is just a number.

I have never understood parents that act like that. I know someone who had a mother that ignored that type of thing and finally when the kid came home in tears because of the teasing finally got them a bra (in this instance it wasn't a refusal initially so much as neglecting to notice the need)

Just curious, how young is too young? Girls are developing so much quicker these days. I thought my dd was too young but she got one anyway as it was needed. :worried:

If you are old enough to grow it, you are old enough to take care of it.

This is my husband's aunt's quote when my husband started growing a beard when he was 12. His mother was afraid to let him use a razor and this wasy auntie's response.

It fits in this situation as well.

What is this mom going to do when the girl gets her TOM? Say too bad you're too young to get it, I'm not buying you supplies?

If the girl is growing the bosoms, its a good idea to keep them under control.
Various items poking out of shirts (especially in the cold) can get lots of ridicule in school, even really young.

The mother seems to be the one not growing up while the daughter is /:
Its not like its a "everyone else is getting belly button rings, I want one too!" type thing.

How old is the girl?
I agree...if you need it...you need it! She could even wear a t-shirt type or exercise bra.

She is 10, very tall and thin but has been well endowed already. She looks 16. She is and acts 10. This causes lots of unintended issues. People always expect her to be and act older, but she's a really good kid.

:rotfl2:
This was great, seriously! I can imagine this happening with how OP described the mother getting a bra for her DD.

:) I started wearing them in 4th grade....my mother wasn't horrified just concerned :rotfl: She is very tiny and FINALLY got me what I needed--I think I started out in a "B". It is funny what you remember. They were lacey and one was beige the other white.

:) At the other end of the spectrum my BFF has an 18 year old son that is a ballet prodigy and at about 14 got parts in the formal ballet attire with tights. He had to get the proper equipment to look nice on stage and she always says "My child always wears two pairs of tights". Her hubby is very masculine and he told their son it was just like getting proper equipment for football.

The mother discussed with you that the daughters teacher, gym teacher, and camp instructor suggests a bra? Poor kid.

10 isn't unusual. I'd say 10-12 is normal range.

Poor girl. I wanted my daughter to never feel bad about what was happening to her body so when she asked for liners so she could wear them to be safe I bought them. When she asked for a bra, we bought them. She has even asked about makeup & we went out & bought a tinted moisturiser so she could start using stuff without looking like a clown in drag.

My mom was like that and it was horrible! No training bra for me, by the time she got me one, I was a B cup! I think I was 11. :worried:

This reminds me of a friend who in 4th grade needed deodorant and an shave and her mother refused to allow her to do either. I guess she had a bra as she needed one. I remember my 4th grade teacher giving us a talk on how we might now consider some deodorant if we thought there might be an issue. This was 35 years ago,so I guess things don't change all that much.

I got my first period at 10, not sure if my first bra was before or after but I definitely needed it. Girls at school asked me if I did exercises to get breasts! So embarrassing.

I was kind of the opposite, I was at the age, and my mom tried to get me to wear one, but I hated it! I would ditch it whenever possible, until I was a C cup at the age of 12. :faint::blush: My biggest problem was getting the sizing right, but once I did that I realized how comfy it was to be wearing the right thing during PE.
