She Always Pees on Mainstreet at Magic Kingdom! Update 2/9

Hello from MN :) :) Can't wait to read the rest of your TR!!! My boys & I went to San Antonio last year for spring break & had a great time! The weather was perfect & there was so much to see & do...:thumbsup2

Disney/Texas = TOUGH choice :)

Okay - we think we have a plan!

Disney for 5 days

Gulf Shores, AL 2 days

New Orleans 2 1/2 days

+ Stop by Memphis to check out Graceland on way home.

Baylor & Elvis share a birthday so he has always thought that was neat.
Shorten WDW by 5 days to open up beach time and New Orleans which is totally new for all of us. This also lessons OOP for hotel stay since the rest of the days, not at Disney, we will stay free.

Cost is exactly the same in the budget. We lessened money for WDW but added more money to buy things since we will be at new locations - we usually do not buy much at Disney.

Dan and I will do annual passes and thinking of doing one for Baylor as well since hoping to go back during Christmas time this year.

So....yeah whoooooo!!!! Spring Break is on the way!!! :cool1:

OK, so I know Im new around "these parts" but since you asked about it, I thought I'd go ahead and throw my 2 cents into the pile....;)

First off - my DH is from Corpus Christi, TX and my MIL still lives here - in fact on Padre Island - and come spring break - she does NOT leave her house for a week!! She goes to the store and stocks up and locks the door!

She said they get covered in kids and she wont deal with them!! :rotfl:

and I would just like to say that it appears some FABULOUS people have August birthday..like you...and ME!!

and I have to say..I feel your pain...come the 15th of that month, I will be 39....:scared1:

(kill me now..) :sad2:

I hardly ever log in (severe lurker) but I will add my two cents about road trip plans!!

Definitely go to New Orleans!! It is such a fun city! There is art, music and food everywhere! We took our five year old (obviously stayed away from Burbon Street) and had a great time!
Some fun (odd) places to check out would be the New Orleans Pharmacy Museaum and Musee Conti' Historic Wax Museum (the history of NOLA displayed using wax sculptures).

Welllllll....now I am throwing another maybe out for spring break...

Drive to Corpus Christi and here is why.

#1 Our friends from Ireland will be in Austin for a music festival over spring break so we could see them for a night or two.

#2 Spend 3 days in San Antonio and do River Walk, Alamo and Sea World

#3 Spend 3-4 days at the beach...found pet friendly place with VRBO so we could bring 2 smallest dogs with which would save money on dog sitters for 2 dogs for 12 days.

#4 Visit Waco and let Baylor see Baylor University

#5 Drive through Oklahoma City and see the Memorial to the Fed bldg.

#6 Besides Padre, Baylor has never been to TX and I have never been there.

#7 From our other travels we have some free hotel nights for locations minus the beach.

#8 Can cook at the condo while at the beach so food can be cheaper.

Our best estimate is that it would be $1,000 cheaper than Disney. Baylor is the only kid going so would it be more fun for him to visit places he has not seen or Disney where he could meet kids at the pool? Wigd & Shoker will not be there the same week so no Baylor & Baylor....

I will have to wait until Baylor gets home to discuss with him this option. We had thrown it around before but not seriously.

UGH!

Baylor at Baylor, that is so cute! haha My aunt just got back from San Antonio, stayed at the haunted hotel (St. Anthony). Eek!

Thanks for all the responses! Last night I figured out that Padre by Corpus Christi is nowhere near South Padre! :sad2:

So it would be a new place for all of us! Then I also realized it was Texas spring break which might mean it is more crowded everywhere we go....

No clue still what to do. Waiting to hear from the Irish friends on what they have for ability to meet up.

We also are tossing around going to WDW for a few less days and then hitting the beach for a day on the gulf and then New Orleans for 2 days for somewhere new.

Any thoughts on that???

Dan heads to the airport today around noon, I just got my photo pass CD from WIGD and Shannn says she will have photos from her birthday uploaded for me to access since they had a better camera, so I should be ready for some time to get this sucker underway!!! :worship:

New Orleans is AWESOME!! Diet or no diet.. you HAVE to try just at least one Cafe du Monde beignet!! And you should tour the Mardi Gras float warehouse! It is so cool!

We left the Shakey's Pizza Shack and headed on south for a long time.

A very long time.

Not as long as if we had drove to WDW from Minnesota but when you are excited...it seems to take forever.

We had a great time to talk though. It seems that we never are in a car just as a duo where we can really get in depth and discuss all the changes of our lives and what things we would like to change.

I also tried to get a photo of my nails which were designed by a lady named Tracy who has done my nails for 8 years now and calls me Diane. She always tries to correct it when she realizes she goofs but really, at least it is the same name... every time. So she knows me, always asks about the kids, how I am feeling etc...she just sucks at my name. English is not her first language and I know her birth name was not Tracy so I figure she can call me Tom, as long as she keeps doing the best job on nails ever.

I started getting them done in a gel a few years ago and it lasts 4 weeks. Good value I figure. I was not sure I liked them at first but she made them festive for Halloween and I got tons of compliments on them.

Mapquest routed us through some familiar roads outside of WDW and we started to see familiar sights and were really taken aback at how hilly the area was. We had stayed in a northern suburb before with our friends from Ireland and the first Christmas we spent at Disney but again, so busy getting from A to B that the scenery was never noticed.

Soon we saw the gates to heaven...or at least WDW but Go Speedy Racer could not slow down enough for the camera to focus in time for the full arch!

P1080529.jpg

We got to French Quarter with plenty of time to check in and Freshen Up before our Ohanna resie.

P1080530.jpg

We had paid for everything minus the dining plan and the systems were down for a system upgrade. This also meant that the MNSSHP tickets were not available and there was controlled chaos. It was not so bad at the check in area because they had arrivals printed and waiting but the Concierge folks were standing around playing hop scotch and smiling but happy to tell you that their hands were tied. Too bad so sad, sucks to be you today Princess, if you need anything that involves the computer.

Here are some check in photos for your viewing pleasure.

Our lovely Checker inner - who would not settle for, "we are just here and happy to be so," for her peppered question of, "What are we celebrating?" So after we could not get buttons for " I am 6'6 and you are not!" or "My doctor gives better endoscopic's than yours!" or "I like big butts and I cannot lie!" or "Manscaping is where it's at!" or " Mullets never die...just ask your bus neighbor!" or "Spandex - just because it stretches does not mean it fits!" we finally had to be given the engagement buttons. I explained we were not JUST engaged...but she threatened to poke Dan with the sharp end of the button so I took one for the team.

P1080536-1.jpg

I had stayed at POFQ in October of 2005 when the Treyner and Carsyn had danced there so I was familiar with the layout. We got the building that was the farthest from the pool and most things but the resort is so quaint you are still only a 5 minute walk if you get put in Antarctica.

We walked in, snapped the ever popular, look at my room suckers, photos!

Dan trying to sweet talk housekeeping into changing our rock hard mattress!

... and then got back in the sardine can for a jaunt to the Poly. I felt really good about our trip starting and what a way to start the night!

Then... while we were trying to evoke sexy :cool2: at the Poly entrance...

My camera decided to die.

No warning. :yay:

No telling you "Alert Alert" with the sub diving alarm.

Nada.

It was full of life.

Then it was Kevorkianed. :littleangel:

Can I have, "How angry does a fat woman get with a dead camera at WDW? for $1,000, Alex?"

So you all will have no pics of noodles, wings, potstickers or bread pudding and you will like it! pirate:

We got our buzzer and waited at the Tambu Lounge and Dan found a new favorite drink to lose himself in. Island Sunset.

Island Sunset -
Captain Morgan Original Spiced rum, Parrot Bay Coconut rum, melon and peach combined with our guava-passion fruit juice.

If You want the actual recipe - Since I love ya all so much...I found that too!

1/2 oz. Malibu Rum
1/2 oz. Captain Morgan’s Rum
1/2 oz. Melon Liquor
1/2 oz. Peach schnapps
2 oz. POG (pineapple/orange/guava) concentrate

Blend with ice and suck away Sally! :dance3:

Before he finished his cocktail, we got paged and were whisked away to a seat near the far window. Perfect for viewing the fireworks minus the fact the computer system also screwed up the music playing piped in so they had the lights on, then off, then on and then off. Finally left them on and stopped trying to fix the sound and figured we did not care to see the fireworks without knowing they go boom to music.

I have to say the food was great but felt rushed. We literally had the salad, bread, potstickers, wings and noodles out within 5 minutes. Server was fine, it just was like Applebees and not fine dining.

The crackhead woman was there Hukilauing herself into a frenzy but we were able to ignore her Mary Poppins sugary nausea and just enjoy some good food, albeit cold by the time we moved from one course to the next since it was delivered so fast.

The bread pudding was to die for like always and then we squared up the bill and wandered inside at the shops. So strange not having..."Maaaaahhhhhmmmm!" yelled out from time to time and actually be able to enjoy just browsing what interested me. There were plenty of cute Halloween decorations and souvenirs but we were on a mission to enjoy the trip and if I spent what I wanted to on Day 1, we would be desperate by the time we did see Treyner in Anderson.

We were exhausted and wanted to hit Epcot early in the morning so we left the Poly after an hour and headed back to our rental abode. We were maybe one of 3 cars in the parking lot and we hoped that bid well for a quiet day in the parks in the morning.

I will say we had a room that had not been refurbished and the beds were bad. I was too tired to care but they were not as comfy as the ones at CBR we had enjoyed previously. I get it will not be a deluxe stay but they were worse than some Ho Jo's I have survived!

We honestly were so tired we crashed though and looked forward to the next morning and the parks...and seeing Shannon and Sam for Shannon's 40th birthday extravaganza!!! :dance3:

I remember my first time being the driver around(and around, and around again) Atlanta.... Not a big fan of that city and it's highway signs...

I agree with your assessment of Ohana's. It is too rushed now. We tell our server not to rush us. We weren't on the dining plan, so that seemed to slow her down. I am spending a good chunk of cash there, i want to enjoy it.:)

Hope you are feeling better Dawn..:flower3:

It was not a matter of getting lost for us, but more of an issue that it seemed to take for....ev....er!!!!!

We were not on dining either and maybe should have mentioned that! I also think the men tend to be more rushed waiters in our experience than the women! Like it's a competition!
Hope you are feeling better Dawn..:flower3:

KIM

My test for tomorrow got pushed back to next week :headache: and I am really trying to minimize any breads to see if it help. Soups and fruits mostly. :thumbsup2

Thanks for asking and I will keep you updated!

Ohhhh! I love your nails!

POFQ looks great! We took a little tour of the resort when we were down a couple of weeks ago...if possible, this is the place we're going to book next time we're down. Suckage about the terrible matresses though.

Glad you were able to enjoy your meal at Ohana. :thumbsup2Sorry to hear it was so rushed.

I was terrified we'd have the screecher there but it was the gent! He was great...my kids loved him. Shaka cousin!! They were saying that for days! :rotfl: I felt like our meals lasted forever because DD kept hopping up to take part in whatever antics they had there. She did coconut races and the limbo and a parade (while shaking maracas) on our Ohana night...good value!!

Sorry to hear your appointment got pushed back. :sad2: That's frustrating isn't it? Hopefully cutting the bread will help and they can get things squared away for you and on some effective meds.

Here's hoping that it gets resolved soon...

:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2: Too bad your Ohana ressie wasn't the following day. It might have helped loosen you up after sleeping on those mattresses.

DH tried to get me to go up there but I wasn't interested. There were a few adults that did it, I believe. I DID limbo later on in the week at Epcot under a limbo pole made of a role of stickers. Those cast members were kind and held it up nice and high!! :thumbsup2

Ahhhh..... POFQ is one of my favs. Glad you arrived safe and sound. But I seriously don't remember the mattresses being super hard. Maybe they were and it didn't bother me. I didn't get a refurb'd room either. But I love it there all the same.

So....was it a dead battery or did the camera really die?
I hope you took pictures of your Epcot day. popcorn::

Glad you enjoyed Ohana and the drink sounds super yummy.

You must tell us the other 1/2!

Glad you made it to Ohana - it always sounds so yummy. We've had breakfast there twice, but never dinner. One of these days...

What's up with the psycho camera? I hope it repaired itself!

Thanks for the Island Sunset recipe! I think that is my favorite Disney drink...at least favorite Poly drink for sure! :lovestruc

The next morning we were up at attem at a reasonable hour. I actually think we got to breakfast by 8:30 or 9 a.m.!

We decided to split breakfast and got banana and a plate of biscuits and gravy to split. Knowing F&W was just around the corner made it easy to hold back on splurging on beignets!

I filled up our mugs with Pomegranate Lemonade and found a nice spot outside to sit and watch the birds. It was truly a beautiful day. The sun was out and shining and I was just feeling blessed to be starting a nice long getaway.

Dan and I had the morning, early afternoon to spend at Epcot and then planned on coming back for a quick swim and then getting ready for our first time eating at California Grill. I was looking so forward to seeing Shannon and Sam and a nice adult dinner. I had seen them briefly in September for her Mom's memorial service but it was not the time or the place to catch up and talk. We had also missed them on our way down to Charleston dropping Treyner off in August, so it had been almost 6 1/2 months since really spending any time with one another.

The breakfast was honestly one of the most enjoyable things that morning. The biscuits were flaky and not baseball hard and the gravy had meat (or faux meat if it is from Taco Bell) chunks in it that resembled actual sausage. Our hope was to split many meals on this trip and the banana was a nice filler as well!

We refilled our drinks and absolutely came to the conclusion a better camera was needed before the next trip. The old point and shoot and pray method was not up to par when we saw all of MEK's fantabulous photos and others here.

Went back to the front desk to see about our check in and the computers were still wonky so no pics and no MNSSHP tickets yet. We had our park tickets but I wondered what happened and if there were issues with those who had DP on their ticket or park passes. I know they had printed the night before arrivals but this was now on Day 2! (Turns out after reading other peoples TR's...that indeed there were problems!)

P1080550.jpg

We made it to Epcot in no time and I know I have some who will disagree, but I love having a car at Disney. It just seems to make the stress of..."making it to the bus," a non issue. Then again, usually we have a group of pod people with us who are never on the same time clock as us, so I stress at moving them along and have been at a bus stop when the stragglers have caused me to miss a bus.

That was when they were young enough, that I cared if they got lost or stolen!

Now I have a sign saying, "FREE TO MEDIOCRE HOME," and still no takers! :lmao:

We entered Epcot...

P1080551.jpg

with the goal of taking advantage of a Photo Pass. That's right...never have gotten a photo pass before and was going to use it as much as possible. I have no idea what the heck I was thinking in my previous life not getting one!

I have all these suckie pics of the kids, hardly any of me and the kids and all because I missed out on Captain Obvious! Totally worth doing and I felt like Jesus himself, smacked me upside the head when the light bulb finally flickered.

Now mind you we are not in our Super Model svelte shape yet...but it is nice to have them to look at and remind ourselves we like each other from time to time! ;)

P1080552.jpg

Wait...I took that one!

What?

You were expecting Disney Photography at it's finest?

Well me too and it is literally within my fingertips. The issue is that the CD compartment on the modem is jammed on the desktop at the moment and Dan is in Denver with the laptop so that means I am trying to keep calm and not chuck the sucker out the window. :badpc:

I will have to post them later and I am so disappointed since some were actually pretty cute!

Or as cute as they can be with us as your staring models!

On with the show!

Our first stop was Spaceship earth and with new batteries in the camera, it was ready for bidness!

I know, I know.

For such amateurs we are amazingly proficient at holding the same pose for so many photos. I could have been Queen Elizabeth the I, with how still I had to be for hours for such perfection. It is hard but sometimes you have to rise above I tell ya.

We then took the time to wander through Innoventions since it was not busy and took part in the storm show.

Again, mere mortals would have taken the time to ride the vomit bucket of death, now known as VBOD to us insiders, but the roller coaster impersonator was not to be enjoyed by Dan who is way too tall.

The seat told us so.

So without human interaction, he was rejected from the ride, saves Disney CM's from having to repeat to the gargantuans in the crowd, "Hey...you BigFoot. Yeah Sasquatch, :chewy: I am talking to you! We can only hose out so much hurling material so we cut the limit at WNBA players not NBA!"

Or something closely resembling that! :magnify:

I am a motion sickness magnet in those contraptions so no way was I suffering alone!:crazy2:

So even though the Weather show CM's were explaining that we had time for that ride, we were okay with just waiting for the STORM OF THE CENTURY....Century...century...Century...

P1080568.jpg

It actually was pretty cool despite being a total Weather Channel Nerdfest.

Explained housing structural advice for wind resistance and tornadoes and was interactive without making you feel stupid if you did not know which shingle is best suited for 100 MPH winds.

Yes, there is no spotlight that shines down on you from above if you are wrong with the small studio breaking into music from, "The Chicken Dance."

I checked ahead of time!

Here is where it gets fuzzy because I am not sure if we did anything else or not.

I really do not believe we did minus maybe Test Track, single rider line.

P1080599.jpg

Dan getting kidnapped by a strange family, or known better as..."Which one of these things doesn't look like it belongs here!"

Because it was noon and we wanted to meet up with Shannon and Sam! (Known here as S&S from now on!) Or S squared but I have no idea how to actually make the S into a math symbol for square so you are outta luck!

Next up:

World Showcase and a few drinkie drinks for Dan!:drinking1

Great update! Sounds like a wonderful morning. Ohh.... I'm droolin' now. I just love some good biscuits and gravy...

Only half? :rotfl2:
Slacker!!!
You must tell us the other 1/2!
Well if it was a couples only trip the other half would be totally different! ;) :lmao: Now with Baylor, I think it is the food...and seeing some friends!!:rotfl:
Glad you made it to Ohana - it always sounds so yummy. We've had breakfast there twice, but never dinner. One of these days...
Good Gravy Woman!!! Get there ASAP!!!

Thanks for the Island Sunset recipe! I think that is my favorite Disney drink...at least favorite Poly drink for sure! :lovestruc
I will keep posting drink recipes as I can!!
Great update! Sounds like a wonderful morning. Ohh.... I'm droolin' now. I just love some good biscuits and gravy...

One of my all time fave's and something I am glad on the WW plan I can still save room for!

I am starting on another update. Yesterday and this morning that stupid CD dohickie was just more than I could take!!!:headache:
