Sharpie Stain Removal

Inspired by the other Sharpie thread, I'd like to know if anybody had any tips on removing Sharpie stains from clothing? Last time we did WS, DD had just turned 3 so, when I noticed that the markers at the Kidcot Station were Sharpie we steered her away. But, now that she will be a wiser (and less likely to chew on a marker) 4 yr old, we look forward to the Kidcot Stations. So, any stain removing tips?

Before applying any stain remover I'd talk with your local drycleaner. Sometimes using a stain remover will make the stain set in instead of getting rid of it. Then the cleaners can't get it out. You don't have to make a special trip to the shop, just give them a call and ask what they'd recommend. HTH

Spray hairspray on a Q-tip until it is saturated, then rub the Q-tip on the stain. This works for Sharpies as well as Crayola Erasable markers (which may be erasable from paper, but not from fabric!). Good luck!

I managed to get some out by repeating this process about 3 times (may take more, may take less)...saturate the stain with hair spray and wash in detergent (DO NOT DRY until the stain is completely removed).

My problem is that I don't catch them before drying!

Rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer will take it out.

I just heard on KLOVE yesterday that a lady said brake cleaner would take out permanant marker. Her husband had been a mechanic and she used it 2 days after the stain on a white jacket. I've never used it but she said it worked.

Anyone have any advice on how to get permanent marker off a microsuede sofa?
My DD decided to become the next Picaso today
She took a green Bic permanent marker and drew across all 3 cushions and the arm and then went up and down the cushions all the way back.
I have a stain protection warranty on it, but it says it only covers bodily fluid, food and beverage stains. I submitted a claim anyhow, but have yet to hear back from anyone.

Not sure if it will work but I got pen out of my DD dress yesterday with a Tide To Go pen. I was amazed how it really worked. I did not realize it was a stain remover not a pre treater so you just keep going over the stain untill it goes away. It took a few mins but it all came out.

Ouch! For some reason, green is the hardest color to get out.

I would try rubbing some hand sanitizer into the stain. Maybe pouring some baking soda on top of the hand sanitizer would soak the stain up...

I am so amazed you are all talking about this right now, the timing is amazing...

I'm packing for our trip next week (yeah!!!!) and today I came across a shirt that DS6 wore last year... well, he only wore it for one day - because he got sharpie marker on it.. or maybe Leo from the Little Einsteins did, who knows..! Now, the stain wasn't huge, it was probably just over 1 inch long.

I have this stuff by Goo Gone called "Ink Away" *** and it got the stain out....!!! I am not kidding.. this stain was ONE YEAR old.. the shirt had been washed 3-4 times last year... and this stuff got the stain out! today! Absolutely amazing!!!

You put a cloth under the stain for the dye to bleed through on... wet another cloth and start dabbing. I wasn't shy with the liquid and poured it directly on the spot.. and it just started eating away at the ink. Then I threw it into the wash and it's gone. Can you tell how shocked I am???!!

My Mom found it at an "Ocean State Job Lot" one of those overstock kind of stores... she probably spent $3 on it...

I can't get the sleeves on their winter coats clean, but I can get -one year old - permanent marker out of a white shirt...!!

The CM in Canada at the Kidcot station said he was told milk works (I don't know if that's true, but he claimed it was). I've also used hairspray for other ink stains.

It's not exactly the same thing, but do Sharpies work well for autographs on fabric? I've made autograph shirts for my boys and don't know what kind of markers to use. Will Sharpies work or will they really fade when washing? Anyone know the answer?

My DD was 3 1/2 on our last trip and I was absolutely horrified when I realized that the markers they provide at the Kidcot stations were Sharpies! ( It figures though, since Sharpie sponsors the Kidcot stations.) I have to say though, that it seemed like every marker she picked up was very dry - all of them were very old and had been used until they were practically dried out. I don't think most of these markers had enough left in them to make a mark on fabric. I was expecting to see marks all over her clothes but she came away without a mark on her each time. As it turned out, she went to these stations over and over - it was one of the highlights of the trip for her! And it always gave DH and I an opportunity to enjoy the WS pavillions. One of us would keep an eye on her while the other went to browse or get a nice adult treat like the Grand Marnier Orange Slush in France!

I would try using the Resolve spray cleaner for mult-surfaces, seems to do the trick for our furniture. Good Luck!

Sounds like something dd8 did when she was 2. It was Christmas morning. She drew zebra stripes with a black sharpie the entire length of both arms and both legs. I found her like that with nothing on but her panties and roller skates.
