Shark Reef in Typhoon Lagoon

Tell me what you can about Shark Reef in Typhoon Lagoon, please! Any info would be greatly appreciated, especially about how good of a swimmer one needs to be. Thank you!

You don't have to be a strong swimmer, they only let you slowly swim on top of the water. It isn't a long swim either.

We went last summer and my dd(11) loved it. Her only complaint was that the water was cold. She wants to do it again next month.

Shark Reef does sound cool! I was asking about how good of a swimmer you need to be because of my 8 yo son. He suddenly, just this summer, has a great love for water. He can go under water-with goggles (his security) and swim abit but is not what you call a swimmer-not yet anyway! Would Shark Reef be something he could do?

No extra charge. You'll get a vest and goggles/snorkel as you walk in to the attraction. It's fun and cold!!

He needs to be prepared because the water is deep. You may stop in the middle and squat only on a big rock momentarily if needed. He will put his face/mask in the water but he can not swim underwater. He must remain on top and be able to propel himself withOUT kicking. No kicking is allowed. He could actually watch through the portholes of the "upside down" ship first to make sure and see how it is done. I have seen people panic every time we have gone because they are not prepared for the cold water, the fish are really there and you have to swim gently. They have let us hold our child's hand when needed to guide him. I suggest you go early and do first thing. Not only is it less crowded (and they don't rush you) but the water is very clear. As the day goes on it gets cloudy from sediment stirring up. Oh and take a waterproof camera with you - have some awesome photos of fish and my kids w/fish.

ps The vest will help him float and by breathing in/out of snorkel you are more buoyant too. CHECK your snorkel for leaks before entering. My son had a leak once, was choking on water and panic began
