Hi,
I am new to this board and am a proud new DVC owner at SSR. We plan on taking our first trip as DVC members on July 2006. My brother and his family are also DVC members for several years now. We want to go together in July 2006. We would like to share a 2-bedroom together for 7 days using both of our points(150 each) at OKW. How can/should we do this? I guess we should call in the reservation together. I would like to do this as simply as possible. Just to let you know, my brother's home resort is Vero Beach so I know we can not reserve until the 7 month window. Who would the reservation be under, both of us? Please tell me how this would work. We have stayed together before at SSR last May using their points before I bought into DVC and we have traveled before many times so sharing a 2 bedroom is not a problem and it will allow us to stay 7 days(including the weekend) if we combine our points vs. only 5 days if we book a 1 bedroom seperately. Thank you in advance for your help. I have learned so much from this board in general and finally took the plunge and became a DIS member. Thanks again.

I may be way off base but I would think that you could just transfer the points from one account to the other and then make the reservation. Just as you would when you rent some extra points from another owner.

You need to go ahead and make the Sun-thurs reservation as soon as possible.

then at the 7th month your brother can do the weekend. either in his name which I don't recommend make it in yours - or he can add it to your reservation (I think). or worst case he can transfer his points to you.

the only problem I see is the front desk making you move. but they try their best not to make any one move.

good lucky!!!

I think it is so nice when families shares! :bounce:

I always book whatever I can at the 11 month/home resort window and then, if I need something that will not be available til the 7 month window, I just call at 7 months and fix it. If for some reason I can't get the 7 month resort , at least I have something! It's the "bird in the hand" thing!

There are several issues. One is getting the OKW reservation which you'll need to do at 7 months out and your brother as well since his points aren't OKW. The other is how to divide it up to even out the points for each of you. The easiest is for you to do part of the trip and your brother to do the rest then you can link the reservations. This will not work out exactly even though so if you want to use the same number, you may need to transfer a few points to do so. Do make a reservation at SSR for 11 months out for the weekdays but don't borrow any points to do so if you can help it. Then at 7 months out you would each need to call for a separate OKW reservation then link them. Good luck.

Thank you for your replies. So from what I understand, the best thing for us to do is:
I can make my ressies with my 150 points at SSR at the 11 month window for 5 days for my family. Then at the 7 month window, we can all try for 7 days at OKW 2 bedroom having my brother transfer his points to my account at that time while we make the reservations( or at SSR if OKW not available). Then at that same time they will cancel my original SSR resie.
Correct?

I guess I cannot make the original SSR resies at the 11 month window combining my brothers points for a 2 bedroom for 7 days and then we try for OKW at the 7 month period since his home resort is not SSR right? Will the fact that his UY is different from mine play a role in making an SSR resie for a 2 bedroom at 11 months be a factor?

Sorry this question is so long winded but, I want to get this correct since my 11 month window is soon approaching and I do not want to put anyone's points at risk.

It is his home resort that prevents those points from being used at 11 months to book SSR.

If they are transfered into your account, they are supposed to retain their original home resort and use year.

At 7 months out he may not have to transfer the point to your account. All he has to do is make a ressie for the needed days and have the ressies linked if they can be linked. I guess that's what I would find out now, as I make the 11 month ressie, "will the 2 ressies be able to be linked if they come from 2 different accounts?" If not, then I guess I would transfer the points for use at the 7 month mark.

I would do it differently. I would make 4 or 5 weeknights at SSR 11 months out for the time you want to go, depending on how many points you have available for then. Then at 7 months I would transfer those nights to OKW weeknights using 150 points. I'd have your brother make the 2 weekend nights on with his contract using 146 points then tell MS to link the two reservations.

I guess I cannot make the original SSR resies at the 11 month window combining my brothers points for a 2 bedroom for 7 days and then we try for OKW at the 7 month period since his home resort is not SSR right? OTOH, if you do have your brother transfer the points to your account, they will all likely become SSR points and thus you MAY be able to use all at the 11 month window and book the entire ressie 11 months out then transfer all over at 7 months out. Because the transfer is a permanent venture and includes the risk of the points ending up in the wrong place and thus not being usable for the trip at all, I'd go with the other option above.

I agree this is the way it should be done and is written, but not the way it currently functions.

Thanks Bobbi, now I understand. The thing is that when I make my ressies all I can get is a 1 bedroom for 5 days with my 150 points. We wnat a 2 bedroom. All I could get with my points is 4 days in a 2 bedroom. So, if I book a 1 bedroom for 5 days then he books at the 7 month window and we link resies, the original resie is for a 1 bedroom not a 2 bedroom so why link? I guess my ultimate question is, Can I just make my own resies for SSR at the 11 month window for a 1 bedroom for 7 days to guarantee my family a 1 bedroom. then at the 7 month window. make a two bedroom for 7 days with my brother's and my points combined that same day over the phone using I guess a transfer of his points so that it is on one reservation in my name ?

Sorry, new at this so please, all forgive me for being so "dumb".

If you need a 2 BR, a 1 BR does you no good. If you need a 2 BR, you're better off only reserving 4 days now if you don't have extra points to use. OR you could reserve 2 studios for the 5 nights.

Am I the only one who feels they can wait until the 7 month mark to make the whole ressie at OKW?

Nope! I was thinking the same thing. OKW has many 2 bedroom units and IMHO, there should be plenty of availability at the 7 month mark for next July.

Best wishes -

Diane, I was thinking the same thing...I guess she could make reservations at the 11 month mark ar SSR if she wants, it just seems unnecessary. Especially if you don't feel comfortable with the process, things could go wrong in a hurry.

If it was me, I would wait until the 7 month mark, have her brother transfer whatever points are necessary to make the entire reservation for the 2br into her account, make the reservation and be done.

Hi again,

It would be easier to wait and book what you want at once at the 7 month point, and some people are suggesting that. I too think there will be room at the 7 month mark at OKW which is where you want to stay. I also think that in the unlikely event that OKW doesn't have what you want, you will be able to get into SSR.

I cannot imagine what could be happening at WDW for 2 bedroom DVC units to be all filled up in July at the 7 month mark. I hope such a scenerio never happens!

Do you plan on traveling together in the future?? Why not use your points this year and use your brothers next year?

Kim

I agree with Diane. Wait until the 7 month window to make your reservations. Both SSR and OKW are large enough that they are the last to fill up, due to their larger size. All the 2 bedroom villas had better not be full for July at 7 months ahead!! :earseek: I am trying for a two becroom at OKW at that time, too, and need to wait until 7 months, since I am using BW points for some of the nights. ;) ;)

HI,

Thank you all for your replies to my question. I think that the best thing for me to do is as most of you are saying and that would be to wait until the 7 month period and reserve a 2 bedroom at okwwith my brother and family at that time.
I am excited already as I will be going home for the first time. I just love disney and find it to be so peaceful. For me, disney is a different world than the hectic one we live in.

Thanks again
