Sharing Meals - How Awkward?

We will have three separate families on our trip. In our family we will have three adults and one child. We tried the free dining package in September and wasted so much food. There was way too much for each person. When we go in May we were planning on doing some meal sharing for the TS meals. We figured the three adults in our family group could share meals with three of the children from the group. The child in our group could share with another adult. This would account for eight of the 11 people, and only three would have to pay out of pocket for their meals.

How awkward would it be for a party of 11 if 8 individuals shared four TS meals? I really don't want the CM to be perplexed or to make their job more difficult. I figured if the persons sharing were seated together it might make things reasonably easier.

What TS restaurants would you suggest for this type of situation?

Thanks in advance for your help! :wave2:

I think that, as long as they are not the buffets, there is no problem with sharing meals.

From my experience, Disney makes meal sharing very easy. You just say "we are going to share" whatever. The ease of the Disney way has made us (I don't eat a ton in one sitting) very open to doing this at every restaurant. At Disney, though, the meal is usually split before it even reaches your table.

Very easy. 13 yo ds and I shared the Mahi-mahi at Kona the other night. Our server brought an extra plate for ds. Our 2 little ones often share a meal. It's never been awkward.

Remember to boost the tip to the server, though, to account for the the fact that s/he'll still be serving 11 people, not just 7.

We have found that sharing at WDW is very easy. Our 10 year old is usually content to eat from the kids menus but our 8 year old turns up her nose at "kid food". If I can't find her a grilled chicken breast (Sci FI) or Mickey pasta with red sauce (old sunshine seasons in the land) she wants to share with me. No problems. DH and I have even split entrees with no problems. DIsney portions are huge and we hate to stuff ourselves or to waste food. We have even had servers split everything in the kitchen for us with no questions asked. We always tip well though to compensate.

The sweetpea and I shared meals many times. Most times the meals were split in the kitchen for us. We share at a lot of places around our home and the usually dont go that out of their way for us. But we found that at WDW they were more than happy to do it for us. We did tip accordingly though.

DD age 18 and I always split meals, including counter service. That way, we have more room for snacks and ice cream. :teeth: I always leave a large tip tho for a sit down meal.

was just a t disney dec 15-22 and shared some meals with my 12 yr old sons no problem anywhere; however told the cm before hand that had dining and were sharing. also had no prob getting kids meals for my one son who is 12 and doesnt eat alot.

I am interested in hearing if anyone actually did meal sharing while on the dining plan (which is what I think the OP is interested in).I am interested in that as well since our family is sort of like that at non-buffet TS restaurants at Disney, in terms of way too much food.

We were on the dining plan and shared all meals unless it was a buffet or served family style like Ohana's or Hoop Dee Do. We had no problem at all with it and informed the servers as we ordered. The servers were all very helpful with ideas and had no problems with it at all.

We also tipped extra for the great service we recieved at every place! It was so refreshing to havve supurb servers this trip! :cool1:

Most meals seemed to come in portions that were huge and allowed us all to try bits of each meal any way. We shared desserts this way too, with each of us trying a piece of everything.

I haven't gone over the money end of it yet but I am certain that our bill totals were much more than what we paid for the plan.

Thank you all so much for responding and making me feel more secure in my decision to meal share on the dining plan. I really appreciate all of the feedback, since I don't want to cause additional problems for the CM's. I will make sure they get tipped an abundant amount for their trouble.

Thanks again,

Here's a laugh about sharing a meal- this was at the Brown Derby. My friend and my son decided to split the Pork Tenderloin. It was like $22. When it came, it was 3 small pork medalions. My friend said- is this already split? The server said no. She was shocked, as they had split many other meals, and there was always plenty to eat. We still tease her about "splitting" the Pork at Brown Derby!

Other than that experience, we've always split meals and had no problems!
