Sharing Meals at Cafe Orleans?

My family is really big on sharing meals when out, mainly for two reasons: we can't take boxes home and we always have meals left over and it is less wasteful and more economical. That said, I also don't want to be breaking a lot of etiquette rules and would like to avoid places where sharing meals is frowned upon. I'd also like to know which places charge a split plate fee, which is fine, I'd just like to know.

Our party will consist of 5 adults and 2 children. I'm thinking a kid's meal for the youngest and the rest of us finding something to split. Is Cafe Orleans okay with that?

Also, I had surgery a year ago thay resulted in me being able to eat a very small amount (VGS). My doctor gave me a card asking restaurants to let me eat off of a kid's menu if applicable. I have never used the card, but wondered also if that was allowed or if it was something I could take to get a Medical slip from guest services to allow it? Technically it's not that I can't eat other options, the portion just typically goes to waste.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

We just ate there earlier this month, and ordered 3 Monte Cristos to share among 6 adults. Our waiter said it was no problem, that they used to charge a split plate fee but don't anymore because people were not happy about it.

I can't help with your other questions though, sorry!

Generally at Disney owned restaurants you can order off the children's menu whenever you want. The only place I know for sure that charges a split plate fee is Blue Bayou - when I did it a several years ago I believe it was $11.

It seems ok.
We are a family of 4 and we ordered everything to share. No issues. The CM evern brought over the Mint Julep refills.

Any adult can order off the children's menu as long as they are willing to pay an adult price. Ask your server about this, emphasizing that you don't want a bigger portion of food. Sometimes the restaurant will charge you the adult price and give you adult portions thinking that the request is concerning the food item, e.g. mac'n'cheese, and not portion size. At CS places, this isn't even an issue since anyone can order a child's meal with no questions asked. We always share at CO and have never been charged a fee. But we do emphasize that we wish to share, not split, the meal. Share means we get an empty plate and one meal which we divide ourselves. Split means one meal which the kitchen divides, usually adding a slightly larger portion of sides. BB charges a $12 split fee (each guest gets an appetizer and the split entree which the kitchen plates). Sharing an entree (additional empty plate and the guests divide the food) is free.

We share our meals at CO no problems. We go the just bring an extra plate route. We find a Monte Cristo order is good for 2 adults.

We always share, too.....one Monte Cristo is MORE than enough for 2 adults!! Just decide, give your order and ask for extra plates. No problems....

The Monte Cristo is PERFECT for sharing. And so good. Since my last trip I found out I am allergic to gluten so I'm pretty sad about missing out on the Monte Cristo.

So sad! Have you seen the gluten free thread here on the DL Disboards btw? Lots of helpful info.

Just wanted to say thanks for posting this question! DH has wanted to try this sandwich but we weren't interested in the $27.00 price tag at Blue Bayou. According to allears.net, it's $19 at Cafe Orleans. Much less expensive and DH & ODD can share it!

I need to get on that. I'm rushing right now to get my plan together. In 2012 I had every detail planned two months out but I'm just making my reservations and figuring it out.

We had the Monte Cristo there, which was great. Here is the size:

Sometimes we order one MC to share among three people, but usually we are also ordering Pomme Frittes and beignets and maybe some gumbo too. This is the one place my picky teenager always wants to eat.
