Some people get confused about UY's, but it's all very intuitive. Share your ideas. for example:
  • If you have a December UY, just go out and buy calendars that start in December.
  • Have a New Year's Eve party on November 30th, and ring in the new Use Year at midnight!
  • Make fun of people that celebrate New Year's Day on January 1st.
    • If you get an invitation to one of those parties, send it back and remind them on the RSVP "Fools, there is no January UY". (This might confuse them at first, but they'll eventually catch on. People like to be told that they are doing something dumb, so as an added bonus this will make you very popular.)

I like to use my banking deadline to remember my UY. For example, I have to bank points by September 30, so I know my use year starts 4 months from the following day. Simple!

I always thought of your UY as like playing Monopoly. In Monopoly, every time you go past "Go", you get a certain amount of money. Your UY is like "Go". Whenever you go past the first of your UY month, you get a certain number of points-however many points you own!

I think of it as just like a fiscal year.

And if I hadn’t created my spreadsheet all those many years ago, I’d be hopelessly lost in my September UY!

I have a SEP UY for two of my contracts. Although it's kind of like a FY in that it crosses calendar years, I actually view it as sort of a reverse FY because of how it's labeled.

For example, FY23 for government/military started in OCT of 22. The FY includes a few months before January 1st and then most of the calendar year in it's name.

DVC UY23 for SEP hasn't event started yet. The 2023 UY includes the last few months of 2023 and most of it is actually in 2024. That part can be a little confusing about SEP (as well as OCT and especially DEC) UY because most of the duration of those UYs actually fall in the following calendar year.

I label ours the same way you do. No matter what it’s called, it functions like a fiscal year.

The ‘hard’ or maybe interesting part for me is having two use years….
I have had MS service remind me a couple time I haven't missed the banking window, because the point I wanted to bank weren’t mine yet…..

I have never paid attention to UY. Only had 1 trip canceled (WDW Shutdown). While I do not make the plans, I need to execute them (e.g., make all the reservations hotel, restaurants, etc.). In the past we traveled in May was our primary travel time. Currently family travel is Food and Wine and Christmas (resort only). Empty nester trips are Festival of the Arts and Flower and Garden.

Currently we have a single UY but plan on a Poly2 Resale contact (maybe direct depending on incentives).

This would be my concern with multiple UYs missing a banking deadline. I would never hear the end of it!
