Tick, tick, tick, ........No Im not Jack Baur, but this was a trip that nearly had to be canceled, had ups, downs, twists, turns and has me back after a 30 hr drive from Orlando to Colorado contemplating when we can go again! This was a trip that I was in dire need of. The stress that had been my life for the last couple of years had me ready to crack and not in a good omellete making sort of way! The one thing that kept me going, was planning this vacation!

The trip was originally meant to be spread out over two weeks and what we wound up with veered drastically off from the plan, but thats alright since it beat the alternaitve, staying home and cancelling at the last minute! On arrival day we had hoped to go to downtown disney, maybe do some shopping, get a sandwich from the Earl, etc, none of that would transpire however as our trip down took about 4 hrs longer than planned (Dont ever buy a transonic or Navigone brand GPS, I dont want to call it junk, since I like Like and respect Fred Sanford too much for that).
We arrived at our new home for the week, the Shades Of Green located very near the Polynesian resort. On first inspection its a fabulous resort and a great deal as far as the rooms go, I wont go into a full blown resort review here, however we were pleased to be able to relax and unwind, having a more expensive meal than planned at the garden gallery buffet. The meal was also less enjoyable than I had expected. Ending the evening watching the wishes fireworks from the comforts of our hot tub however was a fantastic way to while away the evening and prepare us for.

Day 1, Our Epcot adventure!

I have always loved Epcot, I found the countries fascinating when last we went to the world 17 yrs ago, but this is a park that has changed dramatically in that time! We started our day heading for Soarin, all 13 of us, and were mildly dissapointed to find out there were no FP's available, why this is I never did find out, it was only 10 min after rope drop, but we jumped in line and proceeded to wait about 20 min for the ride, and none of us were dissapointed, I cant begin to tell you how amazing an experience this was. My BIL, said it was the best thing he had ever done in his life and was worth coming to WDW for and justified the expense right there, gee this from the first ride!
We jumped over to ride Nemo then do turtle talk, which was cute but not as good as I had hoped as it got a bit repetitive and we were ready to move on. Headed to Test Track and grabbed FP's, found out that in the first hr we were in the park 3 of our tickets had gotten demagnatized and wouldnt work in the FP machine, made 2 treks to guest relations, finally securing FP's while the 2 yr old in our party met a slew of characters! I know some dont care for this meet N greet at Epcot, but it was sure nice for the wee one to get out of the gate with that kind of interaction. We were off and running, then the first curveball hit, since we had skipped out w/o bfast and been on the go for about 2 1/2hrs at this point, we were fading in the florida sun, I should mention that my bright idea to head us into club cool and its many nasty but free concoctions, why oh why did I have to see for myself how bad the beverly was? Where in the world could they charge money for that drink? Yes, fellow disers, I am the proverbial child that must burn my hands on the stove to see for myself that it was hot, save yourself the agony and avoid the beverly, you have fair warning! Given that we were not going to last until our Coral reef ADR, and that some in our party were ready to get ugly, we headed to the first place in walking distance, the Electric Umbrella.
It sufficed and diffused that nasty situation, tragedy averted. We decided to hit Mission Space, somehow we got confused or the lady at the front (my vote) got confused, but all of us wimps who didnt want to spin wound up in the FP line without knowing it, boy were they pushy about it too! we didnt realize our error until we were within view of the ticket takers and there was nowhere to go, we would have left to get back in line, afterall the adventurers in our group were waiting on the orange side, but instead they chewed us out for cutting in line and let us in anyway. Now my BIL who loved, loved, loved Soarin got claustrophobic on Mission Space and went into panic mode once the console came down, which didnt matter because 1, everyone thought he was joking and 2, no CM came to his aid anyway! I myself got a little panicky, so let this be your 2nd warning, if you dont like tight enclosed spaces, avoid mission space! I thought it was a good ride and enjoyed it but wouldnt race back to it. We had a good 45 min to wait for the rest of the party so we do what you do in a ride dump shop, we shopped! Of course the one thing we asked about took 20 min to get a price, and I only bought it once I learned what the mouse was charging because I needed something to justify waiting 25 min to learn that a mickey foam uncle sam heads atop a headband were 8 bucks and not on sale after all.
We were all a bit beat since everyone drove in, so we decided to take a resort break after riding Epcots Spaceship Earth, which we just now realized was closed for a rehab, so it was off to the resort for a break which lasted longer than planned! We wound up having dinner at the resort instead of snacking around the world and made it back around 6pm. However we did get a suprise when 4 of the kids got to ride upfront on the monorail, a cool experience from the way they tell it! First, we headed for test track, which was an amazing ride, for one, I didnt expect to be impressed, and 2, it was a ton of fun, perhaps my favorite ride on the trip. At one point, you go off track and my 8 yr old asked me 'was that supposed to happen' and for a moment I wasnt sure! What a blast! We finally headed for the countries, making our way to mexico, watching the glass blowers work fascinated much of our group, and I finally shewed everyone onto El Rio De Tiempo. Now I dont really remember this ride from before the 3 caballeros, but while its amusing for the kids, theres not much here about mexico any longer. We aquired some pretty average 8 dollar frozen margaritas and I stopped in Norway for some Schoolbread, another mild Dissapointment for me as I was expecting something else, the custard tasted more like butter than anything else so it was soon pawned off on the kids and my mom who devoured it (I realized at this point she must have skipped dinner at the resort, ooops!) A snack From the lotus blossum was soon to follow and as we headed deeper into foreign territory, an announcement that Illuminations would be starting in 15 min came across the loudspeaker, Doh! The park would be closing at 9pm, not 10 as we had mistakingly thought, must grab times guide, must grab times guide was all I could think from that point on anytime we entered a park!, so with no time for anything else, we found a spot near china and watched illuminations! In all it was an up and down first day, really you need 2 days for Epcot IMO, at least to have any fun in the countries, but for most of our group, we did the only things in the park that mattered so it was a success. We averted disaster along the way this day, went wildly off track as far as the places we had wanted to try, and wound up back at the resort much earlier than we had planned. In all a good start to our vacation and a day that I wish had lasted longer.

Wow, getting alot of readership on my TR with that '24' referrence, so let me take yall back a year, to a disastrous up/down europe vacation that included two days at paris disney. I wont rehash all the details here (the whole sordid affair can be found on the Paris disney boards for anyone thats actually interested. Suffice it to say, that trip is known as strike 1.

On with the show..

Day two...MGM

Everyone was actually up and ready for the parks today, last time that would happen, after grabbing a couple of bfast sandwiches and pathetic looking bannanas from the express cafe, we set out for MGM, just making the bus in the nick o' time! We set off for TOT grabbed FP's then went and got in line for RR. Man that was a fantastic coaster (at least the first time...stay tuned to see how that played out later in the week), Then headed for TOT. Somehow we got everyone convinced to ride this, that wouldnt happen again as half our party had the rubber legs afterwards, lets just say it scared the bejeebus out of a few of us! The daredevils loved it though! We made our way back to the magic hat and there was a performance of High School Musical taking place, half our party stayed for this, the other half headed over to meet the cars characters. I have to say, I found all the shows/performance to be highly entertaining this trip! Its such a neat diversion and really well done! the group that left for cars missed them so they went back and did RR a second time.
Having regrouped at this point, we headed for Sci-Fi for our 11am lunch reservation. I had really been looking forward to trying this place since making the reservation, looked like alot of fun. Well it was neat, dont know that I would go back though. The clips were neat but the food was marginal and pricey ($6 for six small, average onion rings) in all it was OK, but nothing on the food side wowed me besides the prices (must get DDP next time). Although the BLT soup was quite good and they mix a real cherry coke.
Having had a break we next headed for the great movie ride, I thought this was pretty decent, not the kind of thing you could do more than once on a trip but a fun diversion while the food settles. We moved on from here to sounds dangerous. I know some hate this, but I loved the old sound booths and was looking forward to this. While a good part of the show nearly put me to sleep, there were some fun moments! We left here and grabbed FP's for Indy Jones stunt show and then settled in with some frozen cokes, lemonaides and some blue vanilla concoction (all quite good btw) and watched the parade.

100_1108.jpg

At some point after this we stumbled across mike and sully from monsters inc and had a photo shoot.
our party then split up again, 1/3 going back to RR, 1/3 to Playhouse disney and 1/3 to the voyage of the little mermaid. I cant speak for the other 2/3 but mermaid waas really well done, I am still scratching my head over the transformation, in all this was an excellent show and I enjoyed it alot more than I thought we might. We met up again and went and grabbed star tours FP's then had our fantasmic dinner reservation at H & V.
Again I know this gets mixed reviews, but this was hands down the best meal of our trip! The crusted salmon, shrimp, seafolod palenta, spoon cornbread, yummy. I wont embarrass myself with all the details, suffice to say, much was consumed! The absolute topper were these delish chocolate tortes, best I have ever eaten and some fantastic key lime tortes, mmmmm good. We left full and ran into a construction crew comedy team and sipped our to go coffee's. They were pretty good. We then went to star tours and used those FP's, it wasnt as good a ride as I remembered and I had to concentrate to keep my shrimp from swimming back up!
Indy Jones was next, this has changed alot from before, its still a good show but I liked it alot more when it wasnt so much behind the scenes and stoppages in the action. The 'plant' from the audience was hilarious and in all it was still well done but I am not entirely sure we went to the right stunt show at MGM. Next up was the muppets 3-D, another better than expected show that had some great moments, I place it 3rd behind Mickeys philharmagic and its tough to be a bug, but its still quite good. As this let out the skies opened and we had a bit of a wait, we made a break for the backlot tour but this had been stopped for the weather so we looked at the map and it was time to appease our narnia junkies.
Do not waste your time with this! We waited 15 min in line to be yelled at by the white witch (kinda cool and well performed) then watch a couple of movie previews. Honestly, it was an embarrassment. We considered another run on the coaster but at this point it was time to head for fantasmic! As we waited, mother cloud got angry and doused, soaked, creamed us with buckets of water. Our dollar store ponchos were no match. I didnt want to leave WDW without seing this show so guest relations gave us a make up ticket for thursday, (day 4) and I figured I would just add an extra day to our tickets and we would go to animal kingdom on friday instead. Well if anyone besides my family is reading this youll see how that turned out!
Wet, cold, we called it a day and headed back to the resort for some R & R. This day had been alot of fun and MGM seemed like a two day park. In spot of the soggy shoes and undergarments, we had a great time in this park, had we seen fantasmic it may have been the perfect park day, as it was that would be tomorrow at Magic Kingdom. Stay tuned for, why do those YOAMD people want to see us anyway?

Wow getting alot of replies to my TR, I knew I should have named this thing Zzubs Unofficial tell all Biography!

Ah well, for all the crickets out there, here goes installment 3, our Magic Kingdom Adventure!

We started our day 1 short ad my BIL had his back jolted on a ride at MGM and needed a break or more sleep (thats my vote), so we set off for the Magic Kingdom. Now I wasnt necessarily looking forward to MK, since I had been here, Disneyland, Paris Disney before and thought what was going to make today any different? But given we had some noobs, it was a given we would be spending a day here. We took the Ferry and what a way to travel that is! I love the Monorail too but the ferry is relaxing and its such a beautiful ride!

100_1146.jpg

We made our way over to Space Mountain to Grab FP's and ran into Stitch! Now we have some stitch freaks so this was a great opportunity to get a few pics! We walked onto Buzz, Somehow I got outgunned, must have jammed, then we still had a few minutes until Mickeys Toontown opened so we split up, a couple headed for the Astro Orbiter and the rest of us went on Stitch. Now I cant say that it was a terrible, whatever it is, it was mildly entertaining, but the burp is disgusting and its kind of a pointless experience. Ah well.
We headed for Mickeys and the girls all met the Princesses! Finally! They are so tough to get in the park! The rest of our group met Donald, Mickey, Daisey, Goofy, Chip N Dale and Minny. We also got pics with Chip and Dale (I mistakenly called them Squirrels and was taken to task! and Goofy (he is alway the most fun to run into IMO). We gathered ourselves in the gift shop and walked over to Goofys Barnstormer (this is actually a pretty good ride for a beginner coaster).
As we exited the ride, our day and my opinion of the MKL would be forever altered! We were summoned to go see Tiffany (I assumed someone in our party did something wrong or dropped something on the ride), nope we were all given Dream Fast Passes! I was so Excited I hugged one of the ladies! This would turn out to be a truly Magical Day!
We jumped on the train and rode it around the Park to Frontierland, grabbing another set of FP's for Splash Mountain and using our Dream Pass to go for a ride. This is truly an excellent water ride and everyone had a blast! We headed over to The Magic Carpet Ride next and while the wee ones were waiting for that, the rest of us went into the Tiki Room. this was a nice break from the day but the show is a bit of a yawner, I think the kids were wondering what the heck it was all about. We linked back up and there was aladdin and Genie taking pics, so while the kiddos got in line for that I snuck over to aloha Isle for the much ballyhood Dole Whip!

100_1180.jpg

This was OK, I love Pineapple and it was refreshing but it was no Dream FP! That done we grabbed FP for Jungle Cruise (hey we had big ideas what with those dram FP around our neck) then hit El Pirate U Perico for some tacos and taco salad. This was a good quick lunch that had everybody ready to do more!
We jumped in the last line we would wait in, POC. I loved this ride in Paris, but here it is pretty lame, only one small drop. At Paris Disney there are three and you get your pic taken on one of them, I thought thats how this ride used to be, as it is now, it needs a FP because I wouldnt wait in line again for it.
We next headed to Jungle Cruise and that was fun, but boy is this ride dated. The jokes were ok but we realized we wouldnt do this a 2nd time. We did make it in time to miss the rain though. From here we went to Peter Pan, the first time I had been on it, pretty good for a kids ride and not having to wait made it even better! We left here and rode the Carousel, then went into Mickeys Philharmagic. This has the best 3-D of any of the movies although I like Its Tough to be a bug more. We left her and did the adventures of Pooh, then went back and rode Space Mountain again and again and again. At this point we decided to take a park break and took another wonderful ferry ride back.
After Dinner at the resort, we came back wanting to use those FP, so we hit Space Mountain right out of the gate, then jumped on the train again for Frontier land riding Big Thunder Mountain. this is anopther ride that was better in Paris Disney as this version is very jerky. We then went on Splash Mountain, missing wishes, but we saw some of it from the ride. After this we settled in for Spectro Magic, I thought it was good but Im not much of a parade person. After this we made a dash back to Space Mountiain making it in the nick of time for one last ride.
The Perfect Park Day!

Next up, our return to MGM and Fantasmic!

Wow getting alot of replies to my TR, I knew I should have named this thing Zzubs Unofficial tell all Biography!

Now that, I'm sure, would have gotten some serious attention.

I feel you. I've started my first trip report and even I am losing interest. I see that people are looking at it, but no one has replied, so I am feeling a little bit unworthy. The responses are what keeps us motivated. Keep up the good work.

I'm here ;) I am barely keeping up to speed with my own TR but am hopping around the TR board reading others.

Funny, Iam hearing more and more about the Dole Whips and how they aren't *amazing*. But you said its good so I'll take your word for it and try it next month ;)
You are doing great so far. Can't wait to read more, especially about F!!

Thanks guys I was starting to feel a little bit desperate! I thought for a moment I had become the Pariah of the disboards!

Before I go barreling into what we did on day 4, let me take a moment and give you a little more background. the past year while planning this vacation has been rough. My job has literrally been eating me alive and my hours have been terrible. Add on top of that a move and well I really needed a break. While all the problems at home were still there, I was able to put them in the back of my mind while at the world and enjoy myself and the company of my family. I know that a vacation, any vacation is no panacea and that the day to day realities exist, but those memories and feelings of the week at WDW will keep me going much longer than the trip itself. Anyway enough sofa time, Day four...

Well this is probably not the most exciting installment on this trip, now that I know I have a couple of readers, Ill need to be extra funny! We had added a day so this became a welcome respite. We slept late, grabbed a nice sit down bfast at the garden gallery, and for all its shortcomings, they do have a decent well priced bfast. While doing laundry the kids swam (dont fall asleep on me it gets better), and waited for the rest of our group who spent the day at Typhoon Lagoon.
As much as I would have loved to do a water park this trip, it was fantastic to lounge and relax! After Dinner we all made our way to MGM for that Fantasmic showing that we were rained out on earlier, this time th eweather looked like it would hold!
We got to the park about 745 and it was then that I realized in no way shape or form is MGM a two day park. We had literrally done everything here besides the backlot tour already, and we werent going to make that, so we came to a consensus, head for Rockin Roalercoaster! 1 quick ride and then off to F! right? We got in line and waited our turn, this was going to be a little tight as we would be having to race to F! We mae it into the stretch limo, Thank you aerosmith for seeing to our needs! As we were strapped in, something happened, the ride stopped. Apparantly some kid got off and jumped back across the track. Well this left us in that thing for 5 min but what seemes like forever, I was geting panicky, not fun! finally they let us out and we stood ther for another 5-10 minutes. we couldnt really go anywhere, the fastest way out was the ride, so we waited and watched the clock, Finally they got the OK and we loaded back in. Now I dont like feeling trapped, puts me in a insane panick mode, the first time nearly did me in, but I sucked it up and off we went, only the ride was in safe mode and nowhere near as good as it was the first time! On top of that when we got to the tunnel to exit, we stopped again! Now this time I am literrally about to freak, I jus wanted off and I was a sweaty, shaking, panicky mess. I focused on my 8 yr old next to me to keep from losing it completely but I had had enough Rocking Rollercoaster for awhile! As we exited, you could see the Fantasmic fireworks, our lone ride had caused us to miss the only thing we came to the park for. So tails between our legs, we decided we didnt want to wait for the 1030 show as tomorrow was our last day, so we left MGM a second time without seing Fantasmic. At least I have a good reason to come back! Stll, though, this is the most dissapointed I was on the whole trip.
Tomorrow, Day 5, Animal Kingdom and lets finish our vacation on Everest!

I'm also enjoying your report.
I'll have to sneak over and read your Paris report.
:surfweb:

Nice trippie! I've been busy keeping up with mine, but it's sooo much fun to read other DISer's as well.

They apparently pay money for Beverly in Italy, but I'm sorry you had to suffer the wrath yourself. I tried it before in 1998 and thought it was tolerable, so I'll have to see again if my memory is serving me correctly. I can completely relate about long hours at work and the stresses therein - I'm a computer programmer and I've been slammed with projects. Great timing considering I'm on a Disney World high and don't have the greatest focus in the world right now!

Can't wait to check in again!

Nice title :)

We got to the park about 745 and it was then that I realized in no way shape or form is MGM a two day park. !

No kidding. This used to be my second favorite park on Disney property. Now I have to agree with LaLa and Zzub that Epcot is the 2nd best.

So tails between our legs, we decided we didnt want to wait for the 1030 show as tomorrow was our last day, so we left MGM a second time without seing Fantasmic. At least I have a good reason to come back! Stll, though, this is the most dissapointed I was on the whole trip.

I feel your pain. On our anniversary trip, there were only two things that I wanted - to see spectro and fantasmic. I missed spectro, so there was no way I was going to miss fantasmic - come hell or high water.

Keep up the good work!

If you start charging people $1, they will line up to read it thinking "all these free trip reports and this one is a dollar... it must be good." :lmao:

I miss out on a lot of good trippies because I tend to look for reports with pics. I skim the pics and if they look interesting, then I read.

But, you got my attention. I am enjoying your report!

Thanks for the replies guys, I had pic's all lined up but on this site you have to drop them into photobucket first etc etc and I just havent gotten that far with it. Perhaps I will add a few before I finish off me report of our week at Disney!

Let me preface this by saying I wasnt expecting a whole lot from Animal Kingdom. I had heard it was hot, I had heard it was a half day park and I had heard that it was a glorified zoo. Well I cant really say I agree with any of those statements!
We started our day heading for the Safari (I ran and grabbed FP's for EE) and I have to say the Safari far exceeded my expectations! The only thing I did not enjoy was the backstory! Why have a backstory about fake animals/poachers as a distraction from the real thing? We saw Tons of animals, Lions, Zebras, Girraffs, hippos and this happy lil fella

100_1294.jpg

Who snorted stomped and acted like he was going to charge us! Hows that for a thrill ride!

Really we saw alot more animals than I was expecting and got much closer too! Again, get rid of the play acting and just enjoy this wondrous opportunity, If I want pretend Animals Ill take the Jungle Cruise again!
After this we did the walking trail and saw a beautiful silver back gorilla who was just awakening from a nap and proceeded to tear off a tree limb to scratch his back!

Next we headed over to Its tough to be a bug and grabbed FP's for Kali. ITTBAB was awesome! Best of all the 3-D shows we saw just from the entertainment factor alone!

After this we headed over to Flame tree bbq for lunch. The ribs were great so were the kids meals chicken wings. The half chicken was too dry though and their key lime pie I would skip at all costs. After this was over we headed over to Kali.

I have to say, at this point of our day i was overly impressed by Animal Kingdom. from the street dancers, the amazing themeing (3/4 of the park is among the best themed in all of WDW, well get to that other 1/4 in a minute), I was overwhelmed and kicking myself for not allocating a full day here.

Kali turned out to be a bit dissapointing. Much shorter than I was expecting and I was soaked for about the next 20 hrs on the drive home. After this we headed for EE! This was going to be it for the day but the ride had broken down! We waited in the gift shop, still no word so we headed for the Disney Carnival, err I mean Dinoland USA.

Now as Impressed as I was with the rest of the park, this section is the park the themers forgot. Its like a roadside carnival, complete with all the take your money games, although we did win a few stuffed dino's

100_1340.jpg

It was very strange to find something like this on disney property and a real letdown. We did do one ride on Primevil Whirl (never again), then spent what was left of our cash on the carney's (I mean games). At this point we had had enough (out of cash). then headed back to EE. Still down, well not wanting to stay any later and delay getting on the road further, we gave away our FP's and headed for the car, which I was just hoping would make it back to colorado.

100_1245.jpg

No that wasnt really our mode of transport, but it just speaks volumes to how well themed most of this park was and it was a delight visually. We made it to the bus pick up (we thought it would be easier to leave the car at the resort even though we had already checked out) and just missed the bus for the TTC. After we got undercover the skies let loose and a bus pulled up and let guests off, but he wouldnt take anyone on because the bus had a leak (hey its not exactly watertight standing out here either you know) so in all we had about an hour to wait to get back. It was a bit of an unstatisfying end to our vacation and probably why the dissapointment over leaving didnt hit me right away.

Up next, my epilogue and final thoughts on all things disney! Thanks for reading!

Nice post on Animal Kingdom. I can't wait to visit this park since it's the only one I've never been to before. Glad to hear that you guys enjoyed Kilimanjaro Safaris - I'm definitely looking forward to it (as well as Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids.)

Great pics!

Keep up the good work. :)

Not just primevil whirl but all of dinoland is so out of place. I have ridden rides like this a hundred times at carnivals so its just such a let down as far as that goes, besides the ride itself throws you around quite a bit as its dropping you and I seriously thought we were going to jump the track at one point. I really look forward to giving this park another go round though!

Thanks for your report. I hope you have an even better time next time you go.

I absolutely concur. I am convinced that Dinoland was intended for another park or something and at the last minute, they tacked in on to AK to fill up the voids.

I am not a fan of the midway games with the obnoxious announcers and such. Living close to several Cedar Fair parks, we visit them regularly and it is the same thing at every park. I know these kids are just doing their job but many go out of their way to nag you and the more you try to ignore them as you walk past, the more they nag. :furious:

Back to the report!
