Shame in a studio

We are having 9 family members come to BWV with us. Originally I had planned on getting 2-2 bedrooms. Now I would like to use my points for more trips or a weekend stay before the family arrives. We haven't stayed in a studio in several years and we have no problem doing so. However, we have talked DVC up so much to our family I am afraid that if we put them in studios instead of 2 bedrooms they will wonder what the big deal is. The flip side is, why should I care what they think. I am the one who will be vacationing to BWV year after year and they are getting a good deal on vacation. I know I am crazy. I need to stop worrying about what other people will think. Any advice? (they can always come and take a peek at our 1 br while we are there:tongue: )

Yes, follow your own advice. Do what is best for you and your family and invite them over to your 1BR for a look. Explain how a 2BR is that plus their studio.

If you're getting a 1B for yourself, I wouldn't worry about it. Invite them to store food items in your room and/or gather for a couple of big meals during the trip. You'll get to show off your own room, while explaining to them that separate studios will allow for more privacy among your family's individual groups.

If someone really wants to (publicly or privately) turn their nose up because you "stuck" them in a Studio instead of larger accommodations, chances are they would find other things to complain about even if you splurge for the 2Bs.

It sounds as if these family members will be your guests? If so - why/how could/would anyone have anything bad to say about a free room(s) in The Boardwalk?? :)

they'll love it! :)

Well from my experience just this past August. There were 11 of us. My family of 5 had a 2br. We booked two studios for the rest of the family. Both my parents, and my sister bought memberships at the end of the trip, so my guess is the studio's didn't ruin their first impression of DVC. In fact it was quite the opposite. My parents don't care to ever stay in anything larger than a studio. Now we will all be vacationing every year together, and sharing what ever extra points each other have. So instead of having 305 points, it's more like having 610 points to play with. Life is grand, isn't it!! :teeth:

Are you talking about the trip in 55 days? That would be around Thanksgiving. If so, I think you will have a hard time switching now.

Nope, I am talking about the trip for next year. For the other side of the family. Thanks for the advice everyone!

I love the studios at the BWV because of the sleeper sofa in the room. Fold it up in the morning and you have a comfy couch to sit on instead of a bed. You don't really feel as if if you are in a hotel room, and let's not forget about the microwave, fridge, toaster and ambience!!!

Whew -- that was a close one. When I first started reading this thread I thought you were going to put all 9 people in one studio! I thought to myself: "Uh-oh...here we go again with the occupancy feud".

I vote for doing the studio thing and having them take the SSR tour. Depending on which state you live in, there could be some rewards in your future!

I agreed with everyone else - do what is right for you and your family.

I like studios - but when I am traveling with more than one other person - I generally go for a 1 or 2 bedroom.

he didn't say anything about college students and anyone else would go crazy - 9 people in a studio.....

I have done this with my family. They actually liked having their own "space" in the studio. We gave them all non-charging keys to our 2 BR and made it the central place to meet and relax. It worked out well.

FWIW, a 2 BR is always cheaper than a 1 BR and a studio. You would save at least 4 points per night getting the 2 BR and even more if you're booking over a weekend.

And you will know who not to invite again!!

When I saw this post I had to respond.

Two summers in a row we had 3 families in 3 Inn rooms at Vero Beach. Two summers ago we put 4 families in a Beach Cottage. Last summer I didn't want to spend that many points so I put 4 families in 4 Inn rooms. They were than fll just be be given the opporutnity to go again. The larger accommodations would have made it easier at meal times but we managed. We had a blast both summers.

There is nothing wrong with a studio. Have fun.

My first DVC experience was in a Boardwalk studio as the guest of a friend -- we shared the room. I was so enchanted I bought my own membership one year later.

After I bought, I invited guests to VB and gave them inn room accomodations. They also bought their own membership during that first visit.

Studios rock!

Stick them in studios, save your points and if they want to know what the big deal is take them on the tour and tell them these are the accomdations you "usually" have but because you were nice enough to foot the bill for everyone, you had to resort to staying in a studio.

With you footing the bill they should be kissing your feet for letting them stand in your shadow. :earsboy:

Sounds good. Vero Inn rooms are very nice, and there's plenty of room within the Inn to spread out, get together and talk, etc. You can always meet each night in the Green Cabin room including the kids.

Just put all nine of them up in a BWV studio. Of course, you may need to keep an eye out for Rich's ghost coming back to haunt! :p
