Can anyone who has stayed here let me know the good, the bad, and the ugly. Have our rooms (3) booked for 23rd (Sept. 2006) through the 30th.

First trip in a very long while, about 25 years so I am even looking forward to going :cool1: . Kids ages will be 8,7,6 and 3 (mine are the 7 and 3 year old). Will be there for 7 days, are there some CANT miss sites and places to go?

What will the weather be during this time, will the water parks still be open?

Will ALL the rides at every park still be open at this time, I was told if you go during some times of the year that some rides may not be open?

Have about a year to plan, just dont want to wait to the last minute :hourglass !

Any info, websites, books or anything would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
TJS

TJS, Below is a list of attractions that closed during September (got this off of allearsnet.com). If you are there 7-days, you'll have plenty of time to do the can and can't miss rides. Some of the Can't Miss (in my book) include:
Test Track and Sorin' at Epcot, Mickey's Philharmagic at Magic Kingdom, Muppet 3D vision, Tower of Terror at MGM Studios and the Lion King Festival, Tough to be a Bug and the Safari ride at Animal Kingdom. Just to name a few. Hope this gets you started.

September 2005

Epcot

Ice Station Cool is closed and will reopen with a bright new look in early 2006 as "Club Cool." Samples of Coca-Cola products will still be offered.

The Living Seas pavilion, including the popular Turtle Talk with Crush, closed August 21, 2005, for refurbishment. The work is set to be completed by November 23, 2005. The Coral Reef Restaurant will remain open during this rehab.

Magic Kingdom

Liberty Square Riverboat will not be sailing until Mid-2006 due to an extensive rehab.

Boardwalk Villas

A major pipe replacement project is underway through the summer of 2005. No work is scheduled inside guest rooms, but there may be some noise on the 2nd and 3rd floors between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm Monday through Friday.

Keister Coaster pool slide at the BoardWalk Resort will be closed for rehab September 6-26, 2005.

Contemporary Resort

May 30 – Oct. 31: South Garden Wing will be closed for refurbishment
June 29, 2005 - February 19, 2006 - Tower room refurbishment. One floor will be blocked off at a time.

All Star Music Resort

The Piano Pool will undergo maintenance September 6-14, 2005.

Port Orleans Riverside

Magnolia Bend (Bldgs. 8-85) Quiet Pool will be closed September 15-24, 2005.

Ol' Man Island Spa (hot tub) swill be closed September 6-23, 2005.

The Magnolia Golf Course is closed now until September 10, 2005. Work on the course will include resurfacing greens, laser-leveling tees, extending tee boxes and building new tee boxes, all in preparation of the FUNAI Classic to be held in October.

we went this yr a little earlier then your dates, Sept 9-17th. We were in the older part of SOG, 5th fl, never had to wait for an elevator, ever. My kids were impressed with that for some reason. SOG was pretty empty, they did have a reunion going on, one of the conference rms was right down from our rm but we never heard them. The rm was fine, no complaints about housekeeping or anything else. The only complaint I had was the buses and that was mostly some drivers taking advantage of the fact that the boss is off on the wkends.

The weather was hot and humid but we never had any rain at all. All the rides seemed to be open. The only closure I recall now was Timekeeper. There were no lines until the last day when it seemed like it was crowded. Everything was basically a walk on. Both water parks were open for the wk we were there.

We had the gold leaf plan, SOG's dining plan. I'm not sure it was worth it. While we never had to wait for a table and the food was fine, it seemed like we were always having to chose either to eat or to get the bus.

The Good:
We love SOG and quite often call the same day and get a room for a Sat. night. We've stayed at CR and the Dolphin, and the SOG rooms are as big as the deluxe resorts and have the same kind of amenities. The theme is tropical, and although it's not as heavily themed as other Disney resorts, it is an attractive resort. We like that a frig is included and that the couch back easily folds down into a comfortable twin bed. It's a quiet resort and a short walk from the Poly which will give you monorail access.

The sidewalk along the driveway (where you drive into the resort) has a nice view of MK fireworks. We've walked from the Poly and timed it to see fireworks from there. We like avoiding the mass exodus, even if we don't get the full experience with music and unobstructed view.

The Bad:
The bus system isn't the greatest, (can be slow) and the Downtown Disney Village Marketplace bus stop was covert (unmarked) as was the one from MGM. At the end of the evening, instead of waiting for an SOG bus from MGM, we should've taken a Disney bus to the TTC and had the option of an SOG bus or the monorail to the Poly then a short walk.

We spent a week at Shades of Green earlier this month. It is a beautiful resort with large, nicely decorated rooms and in an excellent location. I have posted a lengthy review along with pictures on TripAdvisor.com. You cannot go wrong staying here. It was a great experience! ::MinnieMo
