SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

Call out to all my Dis buddies! I am taking a friend of mine to the World in February. This is not only her very first trip to the World, but this is her very first trip to anywhere. She has never been outside of the Baltimore area ... ever. Not even into DC, which is just down the road. I want to make this the best experience of her life. I know, that is easy to do ... we are at the World, after all.
My question to all of you is: other than the old standard "first visit" pin, what else is there that I can do to make this a special experience for her. She is in her mid 40s and is fun-loving.
Thanks in advance!

What about dinner over at Contemporary to watch the fireworks? I would have suggested dinner in the castle, but it's all character dining now, it used to be better there. :(

I think Illuminations is a must (freebie)! Wishes! Tours are fun and with the Disney Visa you get a 20% discount ($$). Seems to me this trip should be experienced like it will be the one and only time. I'm not into waiting around for parades so someone else will have to suggest those ;)

The check in time has changed. Rooms are now guaranteed after 3.30pm not 3.00pm.

The newly renovated Magnolia Pool is open 1000 - 2200 when a lifeguard is on duty. It is not 24 hours.

This should probably be changed in the first post.

Thanks! I keep forgetting about updating that.

Usually there is a 40% off discount in September - we've used it for the past 2 or 3 years happily. I looked and this time there is only one short period from 9/28 to 10/3 with the discount. Did they have one and now shorten it, or was this it for this year? Any chance of them lengthening it? I saw the discount in August that includes breakfast and I guess I may end up taking that (better than nothing) but we don't do full breakfast. I'd rather have a room discount. :sad2:

The Magnolia Spa is running a special! The number is 407-827-3529

23 Dec, 26 Dec , 27 Dec and 28 Dec

"Our Charming Princess Holiday Makeover". Choice of three hairstyles: Bun, Curls, or Braid including tiara; plus eye shadow and blush. Price is $30.00.

The AAFES store is offering a princess gown and tiara package at a special reduced rate too! Present the Spa receipt to be eligible for the AAFES promotion.

Good deal for those staying now compared to the Bibidi Bobidi Boo Boutique (sp?).

You can also book a throwaway night a the campground (i.e. a night you don't actually intend to check in for. Will cost you about $55 plus tax. If you want more info, let me know and I can send you some links to another board where there is more info on this.

Can you please PM me info on this? We usually stay on site when we go for 5+ nights and at SOG for 2-3 night stays but decided we wanted to go for a week next year for NYE and don't feel like paying the Contemporary prices for that time frame. I am bummed that we can't get the MB's and FP+ but if there is a work around, I would love to hear it! Thank you!

Sent you a PM.

I was checking prices and we're considering trading out a night at SOG for a disney resort for one night. If we were to book the 19th at port of orleans for just the one night, and then check in at SOG the following day, would we get Mickey bands and be able to do FP+ For the full time we're staying at disney, even though we'll be at SOG for the next 5 days?

Just filled out Shade's ticket pre-order form!! Getting excited! :cool1:

Do you know how far in advance we can fill this form out? We are going down for a week next year but not until December 2014. Just wondering if it's too early to do ours.

I think the website said 2 weeks before your reservation.

Couple quick questions. :)

When I've stayed at Disney resorts in the past, I've ordered water/diapers/etc. from Amazon or Costco and had it shipped to the resort, then picked it up when I arrived. Has anyone done this at Shades? Is it just as easy?

Also, will I automatically be receiving the ticket order form in my email, or should I email the Shades staff about it?

And lastly, does anybody know if the Magnolia Spa accepts Disney gift cards?

Thanks!

Not very far in advance...2-3 weeks prior to your arrival. :)

Most usually receive the ticket order form automatically via email anywhere from 2-4 weeks prior to arrival. (Last year, I received it two weeks prior and this year was four weeks.) However, some have had to send Shades an reminder email.

I don't think the Magnolia Spa accepts Disney gift cards...but the best way to find out is to give them a call! :)

We are going to Disney in 30 days! It's our first trip ever for me, my husband and two kids ages 11 and 10. We have sweet friends who are in the service and are taking us with them to disney. We are getting the 4 day park hopper pass. Will we be able to get fast passes once we get to Disney and check in? I think our friend will buy the tickets once we get there. I know four days is not that much time to see all that we can see in the parks but just the fact that we are going is amazing. We will be at shades of green 7 nights and will rest on the off days and see downtown disney! We are so excited :)

Wait- what is that? I've never heard of it... details, please?

It is a really nice service they started a couple years ago.
Details are: A couple weeks before your vacation you will get an email from SOG (ticket office) with a form to buy tickets attached. Complete and return the form. When you check in your tickets will be ready at the front desk so you don't have to go to the ticket office. You do have to provide a CC number in advance (by fax or email) and that might cause anxiety for some people.
Fast & easy!

Yes, you can do this. Make sure it has the name of the military sponsor who booked the room and if there is anyway to add the arrival date and/or confirmation number for the reservation that helps. I recommend not doing it too early, if you can schedule it to arrive 1 or 2 days before you do that would be best. That way it is held at the mail room behind the front desk for your arrival and not stored with bell services or the warehouse.
