Sexual Offender moved in around the corner....

So I was checking my email this morning and I see an email notice from the FDLE Sexual offender Notification website. This is a service they offer here in FL, and hopefully all the other states, where they will notifiy you if a sexual offender moves within a certain mile radus of your address.

Well this notification told me that an offender moved in just around the corner from me and my children. I mapped it out and he lives 1 mile away, now I live in a very very rural part of Florida so that means that theres only about 5 houses between my house and his.

This just make my stomach turn, I've already shown his picture to DD and DS's and told them that if they see him anywhere near our property they are to come into the house immediately and tell their father or I.

I know that there is nothing I can do about him living there, but the thought of it makes me sick to my stomach ... and a little pissed off.

The flyer only says that it is a:

800.04 Lewdly Fondle Or Assault, Commit Or Simulate Sexual Acts On Or In Presence Of A Child Under 16 In A Lewd, Lascivious Or Indecent Manner
A person who:


(1) Handles, fondles, or assaults any child under the age of 16 years in a lewd, lascivious, or indecent manner;


(2) Commits actual or simulated sexual intercourse, deviate sexual intercourse, sexual bestiality, ************, sadomasochistic abuse, actual lewd exhibition of the genitals, or any act or conduct which simulates that sexual battery is being or will be committed upon any child under the age of 16 years or forces or entices the child to commit any such act;


(3) Commits an act defined as sexual battery under s. 794.011(1)(h) upon any child under the age of 16 years; or


(4) Knowingly commits any lewd or lascivious act in the presence of any child under the age of 16 years, without committing the crime of sexual battery, commits a felony of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084. Neither the victim's lack of chastity nor the victim's consent is a defense to the crime proscribed by this section. A mother's breastfeeding of her baby does not under any circumstance violate this section.

I am not sure about Florida's laws, but in some states the statute you cite can be (and has been) used to prosecute 17 year olds who have sex (or do something sexual at all) with their 15 year old girl friends and the like. Which simply means this may not even be that bad of a guy. See if you can find out more about his specific case before you get too freaked out.

Other than that, I agree with the PP that it is at least good to know to stay away from him. There are plenty of bad guys out there who we do NOT know to watch for.

True, usually there's a different classification for someone under the age of 12, so this would have been someone involved with a teenager. (and could have been while they were a teen as well) also, no mention of violence. So, I wouldn't be as bothered by this as what could have been living there.

Many states are like that. Some states arrest people for relieving themselves in the woods off of a highway. I have often heard that one should never drink, take a diuretic or get stuck in traffic on the way from Ct. to Providence, RI. There is no where to go to the bathroom, and the cops nab people there all of the time.

No the flyer states his birthday and the conviction date and he was 25 at the time of conviction. I know, rarely, there are people who get stuck with this lable. I've worked for the local sheriff's office so I know the process in which they get labled, but this guy was 25, no excuse for him.

Nobbut seriously I agree it sucks to have to be classified as a sexual offender when ur peeing on the side of the road out of view. I think they need ot revamp the system especially when high school kids having consensual sex ( I know it not consensual since ur a minor) whatever it is still consensual do not get labeled as sexual predators for the rest of their lives.

In RI you can look up a criminal record for any adult. It gives you all the information, date of arrest, town, charge...etc. If you can do that where you live, I would it might give you more information about the arrest.

I do have a DD12 and 2 DS, I don't know for sure but I'm willing to bet that this wasn't a case of an older person dating a younger person.

Plus it doesn't advise of the person gender, it could have been a male or a female.

Thanks for that suggestion, I did find the site for the court records where this happened, in a county on the other side of the state, and it block most of the details of the court case. I'm assuming because of the minors name.

I'm still friends with some of the local LEO's so I'm gonna talk to them and see if they can help anwser some of my questions.

My wife and I are building our first house and it is one of the last houses being built in the neighborhood. We don't have kids yet but my wife thought to check the sex offenders registration site just to see if any were close to us.

She found one in the neighborhood. He appears to be far enough away where we'll probably be ok. But here is the kicker... There are obviously photos of him on the registration site and he looks a lot like me! I am less bald and have more facial hair but at a quick glance one could confuse the two! So now even though we don't have any kids, I'm worried about possibly being mistaken for this sicko!

There are lots of kids in our new neighborhood and so far no one has mentioned any incidents so that is good.

Age of the victim or abuser doesn't mean a thing. Sometimes those dirtbags go after babies would you believe!! Now that's very sick!! Lets hope those dirtbags are kept in prison for life!

We have one on our street, 5 doors down and across. It makes me very uneasy though my DH tells me it keeps us on our toes for all the ones we DON'T know about. Not that we are happy he's there, don't get me wrong, but he is being monitored and we are aware of him so we are in turn being safer for the ones we don't know about.

The family who used to live next door seemed like a normal family. They had a little girl our DDs played with (though thankfully only outside with me or DH, never in their house as they didn't live there long enough to get to know them better. Anyway, they seperated and he moved out then she sold and moved too, but in that time of her selling the house someone came here looking for him one night. The lady said she was looking to find him cause he had molested her daughter. Now we have no idea if that is true or not, but it sure did make me uneasy and reminded me why I never send the kids to houses of people I don't know well.

I'm with you 100%, wish they wern't living near us, but thankful now there are ways to find out that they do. That is at lest a step in the right direction.

I think there's different classifications between a minor, and a minor allowed to consent. I know some states have it as low as 14.
So if they're between the ages of 14-18 the case reading is a bit different than that of a victim under 14.

It is sad when a teenage boyfriend winds up on a losing end because a girl wants to cry wolf when things start to go sour. It's kind of hard to draw the line too, because a girl can be dating a guy for a while, and all of sudden he starts pressuring her for sex, and puts her into a position she doesn't want to be in.

It's such a fine line, who knows where to draw the line.

If you know his name and where he was arrested then it wouldn't be that hard to google him and find out the charges. I know a kid that had sex with his 15 year old girlfriend. Her parents found out and pressed charges. He is now labeled a sex offender for having sex with what is now his wife.

That's just horrible. There should be a way to reverse those charges and get that label off his record. That's not even close to the "fine line".
