Sewing Question for you...

I want to try to make a dog bed and a couple of throw pillows for my bed. My question is...how hard is it to put zippers in? I would like to put zippers in these so I can wash them as needed. I have never attempted zippers before in my life. My sewing level is definitely beginner!

Any suggestions or tips? Thanks!

Instead of zippers, why don't you try Velcro? Turn under the seam allowances and sew in a few 2-inch long pieces to keep the opening closed. A lot easier than a zipper! I don't think I would use the stick-on stuff, though, in case it loosens up, you don't want the dog to eat it.

Velcro would definitely be easier. However, with either I'd suggest doing that seam first! This way you are working with flat pieces on either side rather than having those other 3 sides trying to go their own way. Whenever, I have the option of putting a zipper in (and once you get the hang of it, it isn't too tough but a zipper foot is a must) before sewing the sides together for instance I do. Just a little less fight.
