~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
Love the donald shirt and pen! what a cute idea for the disboutique shirt too!
here's an idea if HeatherSue did make it up....send all the proceeds to GKTW!
Now that is a FABULOUS idea!!!! :thumbsup2 I'd go for that!
D~
We had a big Aristocats phase at our house too, and we go through 101 Dalmatian spells as well.
I can't believe your trip is just 10 days a way! I see some late nights in your future. When we did our early Dec trip dh was at sea for two months prior so I just stayed up until all hours of the night sewing -- shopped during the day for fabric while the kids were at school and sewed when they went to bed.
Um - yeah, I totally tried to get my DH to agree to sleep in the guest room until I get all this sewing completed :rolleyes1 For some reason he said "No":confused3 so no late night sewing marathons for me :( The machine and all my stuff takes up one wall in our bedroom.
Cheryl... we have room in our room if you want to join us??? Then we could, for sure, book an extra 2 days. :banana: And I am sure my girls wouldn't mind bunking with a total stranger that they've never met. :rolleyes1
Sleeping Beauty and Strawberry Shortcake were ours... My youngest dd would watch Sleeping Beauty for MONTHS in a row, multiple times per day. :headache:
Aw man! I was going to ask for that extra spot! Cheryl gets to have all the fun!
And Sleeping Billy (It's Savannah speak) doesn't get watched much over here (I wonder why not?) but Savannah requests it often when she's over - "We go your house and watch Sleeping Billy? Finn! Let's watch Sleeping Billy!" :rotfl2:
In my frantic attempt to finish the Medium Autograph Bag, I forgot to post my Pixie Dusting from Marianne...
It's not often you hear D~ squeal with delight - but I am sure you heard it.
First of all... Marianne found a Donald Duck T-shirt for me... Isn't he cute???
IMG_22745.jpg
And then, about a month ago, she approached me with a T-shirt idea she had... So, I worked on designing her idea, so she could make a t-shirt for her trip. I had planned to have her make one for my trip, but I had no idea that she was going to make it for me now... I just love it! :lovestruc
IMG_22734.jpg
And probably my favorite item in the box - because I am such a dork... She sent me a Donald Duck pen for my purse. When you click the pen tip out, his body pops out of his head - just super fun and I get great joy from clicking it. :lovestruc
IMG_22691.jpg
IMG_22712.jpg
And here he is, hangin' out in my Duck Butt purse, with my other Pixie Dust, until we leave for our trip... Just adorable!
IMG_22723.jpg
:lovestruc Thanks Marianne!!! I am so excited! :lovestruc
D~
I'm so glad you like your pixie dust!!!! I can't wait to see what you create with the fabric squares!!!!
And I'm glad you like the Disboutiquer shirt - Target was having a $4.50 special on those nice shirts - I couldn't resist!
That would really suck... I would lay awake at night, looking at all my unfinished projects, and getting anxious that they weren't finished yet. :confused3
Aw man! I was going to ask for that extra spot! Cheryl gets to have all the fun!
You shouldda asked. Liddy, Oopsi and I are planning a trip in a couple of years (I think, last I heard anyways)... You could join us???
Shoot - I forgot to take pictures of the blue squares... I honestly have no idea what I am making with them yet???? I am in love with all my pixie dust... It's all so cute! :lovestruc
Well, I am sewing today... I will be able to sew today and not again until Tuesday... And then not again until Sunday. We will be spending the weekend cleaning/organizing for TG. We just had 2 more people confirm that they are coming - our little house will be busting at the seams. So, with all these people coming... we decided to have them all bring something - which means, last night, I went through all of my recipes and edited what I needed to shop for. Josh went on a scavenger hunt through our cupbords to see if anything on my list was in there...
Josh's brother and his wife fly in from Europe on Sunday.
Josh's dad and Step mom fly in from LA on Wed night.
Josh's cousin from Alaska is already here.
Josh's other brother and his wife live in the area.
My dad and brother are driving down on TG day.
I work from 2am until 10:30 on TG day. We plan to start serving appetizers at noon...
Appetizers:
Meat & Cheese tray
Veggie tray with dips
Beer bread with Garlic, Garlic dip
Snickerdoodles
Pumpkin bars
Olives/Pickles
We plan to start serving dinner around 2-3pm...
Turkey
Stuffing
Make ahead mashed potatoes
Gravy
Sweet Potatoes
Josh's home made Cranberry salad (NUM)
Green Bean Caserole (no one likes it, but we have to make it every year) :confused3
(I feel like I am forgetting something)
Hard rolls
Dessert (all made by Josh) :
Pumpkin Pie
Pumpkin pie variation 2
Cranberry Raspberry pie
So, what is everyone else serving for TG??? :surfweb:
D~
I need to work on my menu today and finalize my grocery order.
Yes, you need to do that. :thumbsup2
Your menu sounds perfect... You reminded me, I forgot to add my beverages to the above list... We are also doing Spiced Cider, Coffee, Soda and Water.
I double this recipe, because everyone loves them so much. I even have a hard time licking the mixing bowl when I am done making them - LOL.
Make Ahead Mashed Potatoes recipe:
10 Large Potatoes
1 Cup Sour Cream
1 (8oz) Pkg Cream Cheese
6 Tbsp Butter
2 Tbsp Dried Minced Onions
1/2 to 1 tsp Salt
Paprika
***Important*** Must mash potatoes with potato masher - NOT mixer.
Boil potatoes, mash , add sour cream, cream cheese, 4 Tbsp butter, onion, & salt. Stir until smooth. Spread in greased 9x13 pan, melt remaining butter & drizzle over potatoes. Sprinkle paprika over potatoes. Refrigerate covered or bake covered at 350° for 40 minutes - uncover and bake an additional 20 minutes. If refrigerated, let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes before baking.
We make the entire meal and desserts... Everyone else is bringing appetizers and soda.
Our guest list for TG has fluctuated between 20 and 30 for the past month, and now is only at 15. Of course, all of hubby's guys (he is a police officer) will be stopping by sometime during the day/night. They are working TG night, so they will stop in for a midnight snack of the leftovers.
We usually do that for Christmas, but they are OFF this year!!!! (You can'e believe how excited I am for that!)
Our menu starts with Breakfast...which has not been narrowed down yet. My SIL and daughter usually take care of breakfast, but since they decided they are vegetarians, they are looking at Waffles and bacon. (the bacon being for us meat eating people...although I wouldn't put it passed them to try and slip some non meat variety in on us! LOL!)
For lunch we always have the appetizers...with the star being the veggie tray. (my whole family loves, loves, loves raw veggies and dip!) I spend about 2 days working on the veggie tray. (and the leftovers make a nice turkey veggie soup for the weekend!)
The main course will be served around 5 ish...since Hubby has to leave for work at 6:30. We have sort of split the menu up between the different families, but the main items will be covered by me, that way if somebody cancels we are still with the main items...so we are having ham and turkey will all the normal Southern traditional stuff...
I tried to change up the menu one year and had a major revolt on my hands... The only time I bring out the good china, crystal and silver is for the Holidays...so we do the whole nine yards...when we go t DIL 's house we do paper plates and plastic utensils...Hubby said this year we had to host TG because he doesn't like to use plastic utensils....EVER! LOL!
We just finished up homeschooling this morning before our TG break. Since I am so far behind on my sewing and cleaning, I probably won't be able to get on the computer much between now and TG, so I want to wish everyone here a great Thanksgiving! And to everyone doing Black Friday sales...have some extra fun for me! This will be my second year in a row not going out. (last year we were on our way to Disney and this year hubby has to work until 7 am ..of course next year we will be on our way to Disney again...)
Nini
D... love your new bag.
My menu list includes.... driving to my aunts and then my brother in laws.
At my Aunt's house it will be a quiet dinner but who knows with the inlaws:rolleyes1
My mother in law is not doing that well after having her stroke so it should be very interesting how everyone is going to get along.
YUM! I am totally making those. How far in advance can you make them? It will be very nice to get something done ahead of time. I can put the potatoes in the oven while the turkey is resting and then being carved and everything will be ready at just the right time.
So taking that recipe D~ LOVE anything potatoe!!!
we are going to my mom's....both brothers and their families will be there, a total of 9!
mom ALWAYS does the same menu
turkey
dressing with sausage
mashed potatoes
giblet gravy
fruit salad with cool whip
greenbean cassarole
corn
rolls
cranberries
olives
celery stuffed with pimento cheese (yuck)
pumpkin and apple pie
we will head over around 2 to help her set up, etc.
in the morning will make french toast and watch the parade.
older DB and family will spend that night with us and I will bribe him with a BIG breakfast the next morning so he'll help me carry up xmas decorations from my garage up two flts of stairs.
decorate house and wrap gifts ---- I am all done shopping and have xmas cards done too!
Sat taking Megan downtown to see the Cinderella musical and dinner
D~ I forgot to tell you.....Megan's favorite color is blue!!!
We are going to a cabin in the mountains. Check in is at 4pm so I am going to either buy the smallest turkey I can find, or make one here at home before we go up and just heat it up when we get there (though that doesn't seem very Thanksgivingish to me!). I will make your potato recipe and cut it way down in size, rolls and stuffing and not sure yet what veggie. Have to do something the kids will eat, so likely broccoli, carrots and cauliflower medley.
Wish we going up the night before, but I work until 7:30pm and an extra night's stay would be too much $$$.
Alrighty, off to go finish my auction item. Almost done except my top stitching isn't straight on the bodice in one little part so I may redo it as it's driving me nuts. The foot on my new machine has no guide so sewing 1/8 inch gets tricky. It sews straight, I'm the one that apparently doesn't :headache:
Yes, they do work out perfectly for that. :) I have made them on the Tues before TG, and they were fine. Usually, I make them on Wed though. Because we are such carbivores, I try and hide the second pan, so we can have it with turkey leftovers for the remainder of the week. :rotfl2: Usually, Josh finds it in the fridge and bakes it though. :confused3 I am not big on sharing potatoes and gravy. :rolleyes1
That sounds wonderful Lisa... I am so glad you are close to family, so you can spend the holidays with them. :lovestruc Hopefully you can talk DB into carrying your Christmas decorations up for you.
I am debating about setting up my holiday village in the bay window this week... I usually leave it up for most of the winter, just because those darned houses are so expensive that I like to enjoy them longer.
I am glad that Megan's fav color is blue... :lovestruc
I do I do I do :banana::banana::banana:
Okay here is what I am making
Appetizer
Veggie Tray
Shrimp Ring
Dinner
Turkey (Trying to decide between a Fresh one and a Kosher one)
Stuffing
MAshed Potatoes
Candied Yams
Stuffed Celery
Broccoli
Ambrosia
Dessert (ordering from the bakery)
Pumpkin Cheesecake
Applie Pie
Cupcakes (we are celebrating Birthdays too)
I am debating making a pumpkin bread pudding I saw on the food network. The inlaws are bringing wines but I have to specify the brand. (Did I mention we have a full wine refrigerator or that the last time I specified exactly what to bring they brought something awful)
Oh the other set of inlaws are supposed to bring either an appetizer or dessert but I haven't heard from them either.
:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:
wait I know how....the pony express :lmao::lmao::lmao:
Pony express! Of course.
Cheryl... we have room in our room if you want to join us??? Then we could, for sure, book an extra 2 days. :banana: And I am sure my girls wouldn't mind bunking with a total stranger that they've never met. :rolleyes1
D~
Not to worry. I'm sure my jack hammer snoring will remind them of some relative and before you know it we'll be one big happy family.
PS CBR is our all time favorite resort. (I've stayed at six, and I'm slowing making my way through the others.)
I work from 2am until 10:30 on TG day.
:wizard:We're getting 2 days of TG this year..New DIL wants to cook for us all, but her mom has obligations out of town on Thur. So she is doing dinner on Fri,which will cut into shopping on Fri, not a bad thing, but still...
Next door is having a big multi family event, she lost her sis in March after a bad, bad case of colon cancer, and has 1 Niece,1 Nephew, both special needs that she helps care for...so 14 to 20 of us are going over there.
I am going to do veggies for Thur next door, I think Sweet tater oven fries, corn, green beans, and Artichokes. And desert, I have a very rich Choclate French Pie. Butter, sugar, choclate and 4 eggs.. might look at some thing else also cause a few of the people coming Thur are either diabetic or pre,and all of them are in denial about it and refuse to cut carbs/sweets. So I want to try and make something special that they won't know is ok to eat till they have some, like it and I let them know it is ok for diabetics...any ideas?
Fri I must make the French Silk Pie,Pumpkin, Pecan and some thing else...and more veggies.
Maybe some quick yeast rolls for both days...
I know new DIL has never cooked a turkey....and I don't care if it is dry,burned, or raw, I will eat it so she feels good about it!
Also got some photos on FB of the wedding stuff we did, but no idea how/where to post them. A few good ones of the chandler we made of a giant crystal Christmas ornament and the 3 feet lon crystal floral picks..and the draped gazebo and of a few other things...
If anyone wants a very rich pie, here is the French Silk Pie
8 or 9 inch Graham Cracker pie shell, homemade or bought, and lightly crisped and cooled...
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cup white sugar
2 oz(+a smidge of another square, if you love choclate!)melted & cooled
2 teaspoons Good vanilla
4 fresh eggs ( we use the pasturized ones now, but didn't for over 35 years)
Cream butter and sugar till light and fluffy, Add melted and cooled choclate & vanilla, mix intill fully incorparted...
Add 1 egg at a time, beating each for a full 5 minuets after you add each one, and scrafing down the sides.
IF it looks to thin, or gets a little warm I stick the bowl and beater in my freezer for 10 min or so, or the fridge for 25 to 30 min...On a HOT day I chill after each egg is added. Also if you keep this chilled the pie is fluffer and a bit creamer-er, and a lighter in texture.
Pour into cool pie shell and stick in fridge for set, 4hours min.
Serves at least 8 normal people, or 3-4 teen boys/men...
Can be doubled, but not trippled, cause I have never seen a home mixer with a big enought bowl to handle 8 eggs and everthing else!
And,yep, tons of fat/sugar, but wow good! Small serving with whip cream= :dance3:
Also we make a Crazy Cake...first thing I ever teach kids to cook, almost fool proof...& I just found out it is Vegan!!! Who knew?!
Crazy Cake
8" sq.pan, 350 degree oven for about 35-40 min
1 1/2 cup flour
1 cup sugar
3 Tablespoon Cocoa
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1 teaspoon salt
Sift this all together 3 times in the pan, make 3 dents/wells in this dry mix and add a bit of the following in each well/dent
6 Tablespoon Oil (in WW2 a family member used bacon fat, I kid you not! I use crisco, someone used EVOO, no idea if it was ok..)
1 Cup of room temp water ( or coffee....I even know someone that used old flat coke, again? who knows how it was)
1 teaspon vanilla
1 Table vinegar, white or apple( I use white, but have used apple, or red wine vinegar, but white works great...)
Stir it all up with a fork, make sure to scrape the sides and corners very well, the mixture will look very thin,and runny, don't worry. Bake till a tooth pick inserted near the middle comes out clean...
This is in an un greased pan, but I have made it in a bowl, and then poured it in a pan lined with parchment paper or the non stick tin foil...
While it is still hot we prick the top with a fork and then pour on a mix of butter and brown sugar and milk we boiled on top of the stove, pour that on the hot cake and then broil it. I like to add coconut to it...it makes a carmel top.
This is very, very easy, and moist, and even better a day latter...if there is any left over!
It is also from WW2 which is why some people have used bacon fat, old coffee, and so on, and since it used no eggs, butter or other high ration items.So easy, and so dark choclate that it is almost black.
Get to work Missy - you have things to make...
D~ <---- As if I don't. LOL
I got to work and will just post a small pic of my accomplishment on your ptr since after all, it is your ptr and not mine (dagnammit! Wish it was mine!).
Forgot to add, I will likely make peach cobbler for dessert on Thanksgiving. But we like it with ice cream and I can't transport ice cream 4 hours nor expect to find a store open on Thursday evening. Grrrr!!! I am going to see if dh wants to do our Thanksgiving dinner on Friday instead. We can't get early check in. I asked inquired about it and mysteriously after being told no saw that our cabin is booked for one night the evening before -- I am suspicious! Most places require a 3 night's stay!
Now you get to work! I don't even know what's on your plate right now. I think you are filling some AG outfit orders, but one never knows with you!
Your menu looks delicious! Please tell me what ambroisia is.
I agree with the wines, I am very picky, as well - and we are fully stocked - hopefully no one brings wine, because we are trying to make a dent in ours. :lovestruc
Not to worry. I'm sure my jack hammer snoring will remind them of some relative and before you know it we'll be one big happy family.
It will remind them of their mother... after a night with both of us in the room, they will be demanding that Disney give them another room.
...Please pass the Breathe Right strips...
PS CBR is our all time favorite resort. (I've stayed at six, and I'm slowing making my way through the others.)
Sorry, not staying at CBR... Beggars can't be choosers. :rolleyes1
OK, all of these sound wonderful!! I'll have to have dd try that cake - prob not for TG, but just for fun. She loves to bake - she is my little home-maker.
I wish I had some diabetic recipes for you - but I don't... I should though, beause my dad is diabetic. He just stays away from the really bad stuff.
It sounds like you have many fun places to go for TG... And since you have a facebook acct. You should friend some of us... You know my name. :lovestruc I would love to look through your pictures on FB. :surfweb:
Forgot to add, I will likely make peach cobbler for dessert on Thanksgiving. But we like it with ice cream and I can't transport ice cream 4 hours nor expect to find a store open on Thursday evening. Grrrr!!! I am going to see if dh wants to do our Thanksgiving dinner on Friday instead. We can't get early check in. I asked inquired about it and mysteriously after being told no saw that our cabin is booked for one night the evening before -- I am suspicious! Most places require a 3 night's stay!
Now you get to work! I don't even know what's on your plate right now. I think you are filling some AG outfit orders, but one never knows with you!
That dress is adorable... Like one of my Dis friends - I am old and blind, I really can't see it - you should have made it bigger. :3dglasses
I have no idea what I am working on either. I just started cutting fabric this morning, but I really have no idea what I am making. :confused3 LOL
"OK, all of these sound wonderful!! I'll have to have dd try that cake - prob not for TG, but just for fun. She loves to bake - she is my little home-maker.
I wish I had some diabetic recipes for you - but I don't... I should though, beause my dad is diabetic. He just stays away from the really bad stuff.
It sounds like you have many fun places to go for TG... And since you have a facebook acct. You should friend some of us... You know my name. I would love to look through your pictures on FB."
OOOOOhhhhhhh! I never thought to do that! You are one smart cookie, I am gonna go and (try!) do that ASAP. As soon as I get off this site....
I start making the Crazy cake with kids when they are about 3yo. The little ones like to use their fingers, after washing hands, of course, to "check" the corners and edges of the pans for any dry ingreds...and then they have to lick their fingers off...
On my way..so if you see a friend request from a Greek Goddess name, ya know it's me...not that I am, but so day I'll share the story of how I got my name...me and a bunch of puppies....:rotfl2:
