Just wondering what experience has been like regarding service during the free DDP? With an 18% added automatically, have you found service to be less than stellar?

We usually tip more when grat is added but I have known lots of servers who slack when they know the tip is a given.

We went during free dining last year and did not notice any difference in the service from the year before. Most of the servers were excellent.

Have a great evening!

Honestly, servers were great, but they are a lot more rushed than usual. I could see people thinking they were rude, but that's just because they had so many people to help at one time. They were all great servers though.

Also, I don't think last year's experiences will necessarily be indicative, because word is that Disney feels that they offered free dining to too many guests last year, so will be offering it to fewer guests this year. So service should be even more consistently great that last year.

We had free dining last year and found service to be equally as good as without the DDP the year before.
In fact some have said that the servers want you to use all your credits(appetizer, entree dessert etc) and are "extra" friendly as their tip goes up right along with the bills total.
We always added to the tip when we thought the service was very good as we're used to paying atleast 20% for a tip anyway!
Have a great time.

We had some bad service last year, which at the time I "imagined" was due to free dining, but maybe we just had some bad luck. Our server was so bad at LTT that in retrospect, I should have complained. However, I really don't like confrontations on vacation, so we just ran out of there asap! (But most of the food was great!) Basically, he was just gruff and disappeared for long stretches. I could see him standing around talking with other servers and he also seemed to give excellent service to other service. Again, at the time I was imagining that they were paying OOP for their meals. Not sure what the truth is, but that was one of our experiences. My DD had the only bad tasting meal (some kind of pasta, I think), and we weren't able to discuss it with him, because he never returned until it was time for desert. Also, had to grab other servers to refill drinks. His whole general attitude with us was that we were an inconvenience to him. I would say 75% of our service on last year's trip was great, and 25% questionable.

The only thing I noted with last year's free dining was what someone already commented on - the "rush". They want to turn over tables as fast as they can so once you order its great fast service but when you just get your appetizer it seems like you food is there and they are asking you for dessert with your first mouthful. I actually dont mind that. Id rather have that than starve and never get refills of my drink because the waitress is MIA. Thats probably why we're going again! Woohoo!

We had great service at all of our meals with free ddp. The only exception was LeCellier, he wasn't bad he just wasn't very friendly and it took him a long time to get back to the table for things. Not really horrible, just not as great as the rest.

We found wonderful service while we were on the free DDP last August. This past December when paying out of pocket we only had 1 very good waitress.

I hope that service as as good as when you pay out of pocket. We were not lucky enough to have dates during fd. I am going from 5-26 of august (we have a family home in fla.) although only on property from 19-26. I am still going to pay for dining as it is worth it for my family of never stop eating boys. I hope service is as great as usual, becuase the servers have no idea who is free and who pays for dining. I would hate to pay $1500 for food and get bad service.

we have enjoyed the free dining for past 2 septembers- no difference in quality or service noted. They do it disney style like everything else- above the call of duty as far as I am concerned.

My experience:
CRT - Server was outstanding, wonderful guy who went out of his way to treat DS (adult yet disabled) very special, I tipped well over
Capt jacks - Server was outstanding, lovely lady who went above average, and we tipped well over
Ohana Breakfast - She was friendly, good and got what we needed, basic service
Mama Melrose - nice enough but seemed very rushed and did not check often
BOMA - nice enough, but again seemed very rushed and did the basics
Sci Fi - indifferent and never checked on us, and being dark in there was hard to get his attention
Chef Mickey - she was totally indifferent, basically ignored us and I felt like the 18% was way too much money considering we got our own food

Overall the service was very average considering price level of the restaurants, and I think it was because they didn't have to worry about their tip.

We have been 6 times in the last 3 years. We have had the DDP twice for free. Paid for DDP three times and paid OOP once. We have always had above average to excellent service each time.
