Has anyone else heard the rumor that Disney, being ABC's parent company, is going to change Tom Sawyer Island into the Island from LOST?

I'm a fan and I think it would rock, but I wouldn't think the appeal would be THAT universal...

I doubt it will happen. Lost isn't that popular of a show and doesn't make sense to make an attraction of a show that wil be canceled before it could even open.

This is it's last season- they are concluding it, it won't be "cancelled", per se. I think it is very popular as far as television goes, but still can't imagine a Disney attraction based on it.

Although I would totally camp out there if the guy that plays "Sawyer" is featured. Wink, wink!

Wow you are very misinformed. Lost is only one of the most popular shows in television history. You don't make 6 Seasons on today's TV unless your great. It such a great show ABC is in a major scramble to try and figure out what to replace it with once it ends. This is the last season only by the Creator's choice not ABC.

Now I'm not sure the Lost Island really fits in at MK. It would have to be done at the Studios. That would make more sense. Maybe they could turn the Drew Carey attraction into a Lost Attraction..

The final episode of Lost is scheduled for broadcast in May 2010. Reruns of Lost will be shown in syndication for years to come. But, at this point, it's a "has been" series, joining Fantasy Island and Gilligan's Island as tropical island-based TV series that were once very popular but are now old news.

I don't know why anyone thinks that repurposing TSI (at DL or MK) as Lost Island would work.

Lost takes place on a tropical island in the South Pacific. TSI is in Frontierland, representing the 19th century American frontier. A sternwheeler travels around TSI. Lost Island would be a very, very bad fit for Frontierland.

Fortunately, this is just some fan's idea, not a real plan by Disney.

Lost, not popular? You don't know how many people, including myself that are like insanely looking forward this last season. The show's not being canceled, it's just what the show runners have decided to do.

As for Lost Land? Lost Island? in Disney, I think there's a place for it somewhere, in MK in Frontier Land? maybe maybe not. Maybe more of an Adventure Land type thing, but it's not like TSI is near there. I think there's enough elements to make something and make it interesting.

Not Popular? Lost is a top 20 show, has great numbers in the 18-49 categories, and has a rabid fan base.

Calling it a has been series is really inaccurate. But I agree, that doing the an attraction is dumb

According to Movieline, WDI has tested a motion based darkride with Kuka arm technology that could be based on Lost. However, they have also workshopped other rides, as well. Supposedly, WDI insiders were bragging about the Lost ride at some kind of trade show. My guess is, that if it gets the greenlight, the ride may go into Disney's Hollywood Studios. Someone mentioned that they're selling Lost t-shirts and merchandise over by the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. The ride might also go to DCA or the Paris Studio.

I think television shows can have lasting popularity and interest well after the end of their run. If the movies we enjoyed ten, twenty, thirty years ago still hold our interest (and still merit attractions at the Disney Parks), why not a television show? I think a show like Lost, that so many people have spent so much time with, might just be that kind of show. It probably is somewhat dependent on what happens in the final season. However, I am actually usually far more likely to re-watch television shows than I am to re-watch movies
I just started watching the show this fall and am only at the end of the second season; I'd be super excited about a Lost attraction at Disney World or Disneyland. I think they could create a ride that might be more fun than just re-tooling Tom Sawyer Island (and also in a more appropriate location) but I guess I'd take whatever I could get A whole Lost Island or section of DHS would be fab. There's enough exciting/weird/fun/different stuff they could do, if it's a good ride the fact that the show will be finished and the book closed shouldn't matter.
Of course I'm far from convinced anything Lost will be coming to the parks.
I hope it does.

If you define it like that perhaps... I would personally call a has been series something that was once strong and just kind of comes crashing down towards the end in the ratings and creatively, neither of which I'd attribute to Lost... Roseanne after the Lotto win... The Drew Carey Show.... Heroes.... My Name is Earl.... Those are shows in their last seasons that I would call has been, not a show that still is Top 20 and is ending on its own terms and not cancelled like most of the above shows or really dangerously close to being cancelled.

When has Disney created a ride after a weekly TV series is off the air? That's essentially what they would do here. Without weekly shows to draw in new viewers and maintain current viewers, there is nothing the rie could tie to that would help it sustain "life" in the amusement park world. I see no way this even has legs to move forward.

It doesn't fit into the new vision or theme of the Studios. They're moving more towards the movie side of things... And it surely doesn't fit into the Pixar portion...

Example: The "Twilight Zone" Tower of Terror. The reason that Disney is considering this is to keep the Lost franchise alive. I'd rather see a high-tech Lost ride at Disney parks, than a lame new spin-off TV series without the original creators.

First, I am a fan of Lost and would like to see something based on it.

As for replacing TSI, I don’t agree with it.
I am somewhat tired of Disney replacing and updating the classic things with the flavor of the month.
Even though I am not a fan of TSI, I do not want to encourage Disney to trample over the classic stuff.

Although I have not been to DL, I assume it is just the Magic Kingdom and Lost does not fit there anyway IMO.
I would love to see something in HS though.

As for it being a cancelled has been series that is a little ridiculous.
I have respect for the fact that the writers are not going to just keep milking it, which they could.

That’s one problem with TV in this country, it goes on too long.

The English version of the Office was planned for a short run and every episode is brilliant, same with Fawlty Towers. The US version of the office stopped being funny a long time ago IMO.
Why are they still following them around with a camera and is anyone interested?

Another example is The Prisoner (let's not even mention the “remake”) it is a "has been" series that was only meant to be 7 episodes. They were forced to do more to sell the series to America. Personally I don't want to see any forced episodes of Lost.

People are still arguing about the hidden meanings in the Prisoner over 30 years later.
Lost will probably be the same thing.

In addition many people go every year to the Portmeirion resort where the external scenes of the Prisoner were shot. This is about a 10 hour train ride from London. I spent a few weeks in Penrhyndeudraeth near Portmeirion and it is the middle of nowhere. There is very little of interest other than Portmeirion and that is a day at the most. Not even a decent pub. But Prisoner fans are drawn there every year.

So where am I going with this. Lost is a very similar series and has as fanatical a fan base as The Prisoner. I think an attraction based on the series Lost will continue to draw people for some time to come. It will continue to draw new fans in re-runs. I think they need to do something with it, the question is what. Replacing drew Carey makes a lot of sense. He is more of a has been IMO.
