SERIOUSLY - has our family the 'Magic" to ourselves on 6th August 2011 Med cruise???

Your plans sound great Randi! :) We are going to book our flights soon - I think we will be spending a few days before and after the cruise in Barcelona. Here are our excursion plans:

Villefranche: Disney Monaco and Monte Carlo half day tour

La Spezia: I think we are going to do Cinque Terre by ourselves on the train - need to do a bit more research on this one!

Civitavecchia - getting the train to Rome by ourselves

Naples - Getting the train to Pompeii by ourselves

Palma - I think we are just going to go to the main town by ourselves for a look around

Hope you have a great weekend everyone! :)

Hello everyone!

I think everytime I come back to check our meet page there is a new page added. Not bad for a thread that got started late!

We are flying into Barcelona with EasyJet from Northern England -- we have decided to book a car and driver to meet us when we arrive on the Thursday before the cruise. We thought it would just be easier...especially when travelling with a toddler and all the gear that comes with that (car seat, stroller, etc).

For excursions - I think we are going to do a mix:

Villefranche: All 6 of us are going to book the Monaco by Little Train Excursion (its my mum's b-day so she got to choose)

La Spezia: I think that my mum & dad & toddler are going to stay on/near the boat. And the rest of us is going to head to Piza on our own. Make it an easy day...maybe book tickets to climb the tower in the afternoon.

Civitavecchia: Again I think my mum & dad & toddler are staying on the boat. Me, hubby & 10 yr old is going to do a Disney Excursion. I am too worried about missing the boat to do it on my own. Probably "Jumping Back into Eternal Rome".

Naples: I think we are going to play this one by ear. Book nothing - but definately plan on doing Pompeii with the 10 year old. When we are on the ship we will check and see what the temp is like - if not to bad and if there is space left the boys might go climb Mt. Vesuvius. The girls are going to go off (with Toddler) and explore - destination unknown!

Palma - This day challenges me the most. My 10 year old wants go see the caves, and see the turtles and train the dolphins and make his first sand castle on a SANDY beach. I don't know what we are going to end up doing? Probably the beach and something else - if we can fit it in.

In the end no matter what we do - we expect our Rome day to the busiest and hopefully the rest of the days relaxing with the attitude of whatever goes - goes. Besides this is our first Disney Cruise - so who knows what is left to book by the time we get the chance to book. The cruise is still 4 months away but I can't help looking at the Boards and the different travel websites everyday.

Happy planning everyone!

~Heather~

Taking my nephews and sis! Probably going to book a private excursion in Naples - Pompeii and Amalfi. Looking at Rome In Limos. Not sure about the other ports.

Also, looking for something to do in Barcelona after we disembark. We have a late train to catch that night. Suggestions?:yay:

Hey there
Great to have more folks on the thread. I have been slacking in sorting out our excursions I have to admit - but I have enjoyed reading what you guys have all been planning - thanks for sharing.

I got an email from Easyjet this week - we are flying from Belfast to Barcelona with them - they were advising that they have tightened down on cabin size luggage and the advise checking each piece we are travelling with as they will be charging £25 at check in or £40 at the gate if any piece of hand luggage is over the dimensions 56 x 45 x 25 cm. We should be fine going, its coming home i am worried about - you always buy something that you would rather carry as its breakable and I'm wondering how much excess baggage I am going to have to pay for!!!!! Are Easyjet the only one tightening down on carry on luggage allowances?

I guess for those of you coming long haul from across the Atlantic there is less of an issue. My two youngest girls have "Trunki's" - the pull along hard type kids suitcase that is meant to have been designed to fit as hand luggage - I must check the measurements of it so see if they will be allowed as hand luggage this year - there had been no issues last year!!!

Keep sharing your stories, its part of the excitement in the build up to our vacation........

Nite for now

Jude - I got the same message from EasyJet as well. I think all of the airlines are using luggage as a money making/recovery system now a days. Even my international flight is only allowing one piece of checked luggage free.

My concern with EasyJet is my son's car seat. He has to have a car seat to travel on the international flight to the UK (and for use in the car) but I haven't quite figured out if EasyJet wants car seats used in the cabin or checked? They only mention on their policy for 1 years and younger. I wonder if we bring a car seat to the cabin will it fall under the policy you just stated?

South Park - I don't know how old your nephews are but I was looking up fun things to do in Barcelona for kids the other night and I came across Tibidabo Mountain - it is a city run park that includes beautiful views of the city and a old fashion amusement park. I found it on Tripadvisor and it was ranked 20 out of 177. That could be something fun and not to intense. We were thinking of doing it the night before the cruise to let off some steam after doing the sightseeing thing around the City.

Ryan Air was really strict on my luggage from Germany to England last weekend. 14,9 kilo's and wouldn't you know I hit that sucker right on the nose! They let me check my carseat free for my 4 year old, but I'm not farmilitar with EasyJet because they're a pain to get to for me. I'm thinking we're just going to fly a regular airline into Barcelona rather than Ryan Air because RA flies to an airport an hour away, and I don't want the hassle. Haven't booked our tickets or SE's yet because I'm waiting to see what dumb thing our gov't does tomorrow. If they don't pass the budget, DH won't get his paycheck on the 15th. :sad2:

I will check out the info regrding the amusement park. My nephews are 7 and 9. Thanks for the info Newfoundland Sailor!

That's great planning information Florida Mom. My mum is going to be excited...she is celebrating her 70+ B-Day on Day 2 and now she has an excuse to get dressed up without going to Palo.

Hi everyone! I'm joining you on the cruise! We just booked today!

I'm 24, going with my parents. We did the Wonder 10 years ago, and then I worked on the Magic last year so it's going to be really nice to get back on the ship!

I'm going to start researching about Fish Extenders and the excursions, can't wait!

Hey there

Love your name Hogswartsdropout!!! Welcome to our thread - its lovely to have you on board. How cool to have worked with the Disney Cruise Line - it'll be lovely for you to be on the receiving end of some first class service for a change, not always having to give it!

I have started an FE exchange list if you want to do your research and see what you think. There are 4 staterooms signed up already. Should be fun - my daughters loved it last year.

Keep posting!

Hi Everyone!

Would I be able to sign up to the fish extender swap? Sorry I didn't earlier - I just wanted to research it a little bit first! Jude - Do I need to send you any info yet, like cabin number? :)

Also, those from the UK, where did you get your fish extender from? I have seen the ones on eBay (they look really cute!) but just wondered if there was a cheaper option? Also, do people give a gift for each person in the stateroom, or just one for the family, or just a few things to share? Sorry for all the questions!!!!

Hope you are all having a good weekend! :)

Hey there

Oh course you can sign up!! Its all very informal! So far I have just made a note of the names of Dis-sers who have asked to be included and noted who was in their stateroom - M/F, boy/girl etc. Haven't exchanged staterooms yet. Although some of us have them there is always the chance the numbers may change closer to the sail date.

I bought my FE from Gradysmommy on ebay. I guess it was expensive enough but totally worth it - her work is first class and her attention to detail perfect - I got all the colours and styles I asked for. I think I have seen threads showing how to make one, even a no sew version. If you do a search for fish extender you may come up with other ideas. So, who all is travelling with you and ages (or even just adult or child)? As for how it works, last year I did individual gifts for each of the children in the exchange and my gifts for the grown ups varies. What I mean is I brought some things from NI which perhaps suited the dad best and made things that suited the mom best. Some gifts were shared - irish chocolates etc. Hope that makes sense!

Any other specific questions just ask.

Thanks for your interest and joining up,

Jude
